I might buy this just to support Saber, those guys are killing it right now. I still occasionally play the Witcher 3 on the switch, that came out late last year and already they have another huge port out, it's absolutely insane how fast they are putting out top tier ports on the switch. Although I really do hope a physical version comes out eventually, that definitely makes the $30 price tag a lot more appealing.
It's not just EA, switch games in general are overpriced. Doom 2016 is an example of a game that's around 10 times as expensive as PC and likely Xbox and PS4 as well. There's a few Nintendo ports that are also overpriced, like new super mario Wii u also being $60.
Well, to be fair, this is based off the downgraded version of Crysis that was built for the Xbox 360 and PS3. So it's not quite the same, but still pretty cool for a little mobile device!
Played it for a few hrs so far, and this has to be the most impressive thing I've seen in gaming for a long time. Can't wait to see what else comes to the switch!
flip your switch upside down and stand on it with the joycons in the wrong hands and upside down while holding the + and - to activate the metaphysical gravity bypass jets. wooosh.
Thanks for a great review Mark! To be honest, they actually added quite a few visual improvements on the Switch from the PC version, and it uses much higher settings than low (I tested on my PC and "low" is often "atrociously low" on PC). Generally the lighting is much more realistic, using voxels for global illumination, it gives the indoor lighting realism, very much like a poormans realtime ray-tracing, with bounce light features (original crysis uses screen space global illumination, and it looks very basic in comparison). They also improved water rendering... however, I think some of the improvements and the shift to a newer cryengine has caused some of the rendering to be broken, like the underwater fog being rendered incorrectly, as well as certain scenes, compromising the original artistic intention. Hopefully it is something that can be worked out with a patch eventually since the crysis community is currently in an uproar over this remaster being a bit artistically broken.
@@Loundsify Running crysis on my PC at "very high" eats up 1GB RAM and 4.35GB of GPU Memory . It is kind of amazing that the switch's texture resolution is as high as it is. to be similar to "high" or sometimes "very high" on PC. sure they look a bit blurry, but they did that on PC as well. @thebithell Well ported not really but Crysis only runs on the Switch cause the upgraded the Engine and used the Port for the Console Version of Crysis from the Ps3/Xbox 360.
As someone who's played the entire Crysis Remastered Trilogy, I definitely prefer the first game the most. I like the large Far Cry 1-esque semi-open levels and open-ended ways to complete objectives. I really wish that Warhead was included in the remaster, so I could experience more of this gameplay _and_ get the full story. Crysis 2 wasn't bad, but it was much more linear and felt more like a hybrid of Half-Life 2 and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Crysis 3 at least tried to go for the semi-open approach again for the last couple levels, though there should've been more of them and they were still pretty barren and empty compared to what the first game had.
I've been playing since this morning and I noticed a few issues, while the game looks and runs really well, it is prone to constant framerate stuttering and drops, not to the point it becomes unplayable but it's very noticeable. Also there's gyro controls but there's no slider to adjust the sensitivity of the gyroscope, and the gyro controls are sometimes unresponsive during gameplay, and the game crashes constantly too. Not sure what other players have experienced but these are the main issues that keep bugging me.
Good review, but I do think the price point is very fair, though, considering how well they ported it over. As a Switch-only gamer, I had zero hesitation to pick this up for $30. AAA switch ports are often priced much higher, like outer worlds for $60 (which is a much worse port) and burnout paradise for $50 (which is a good port, but also an old game, like Crysis).

Hi Glen & Mark! Love what you guys do. Now that's out of the way, I wanted to rant about something real quick that I wish more developers would try out regarding the gyro aiming. First off worth mentioning, I used to hate gyro aiming and said I would never give it a chance. Then, I got into playing Warframe on Switch and ended up giving it a shot on there and loving it. That being said, I think there are two reasons why I actually use and love the gyro aiming on Warframe, and it's got me honestly wishing more game developers would try this out: the first reason being that they got the sensitivity down just right. It snaps exactly to where you want it to, and the initial response time for the motion aiming is spot on and works extremely well, so much in fact that as far as Warframe goes, I didn't even have to adjust any of the sensitivity for the gyro controls. Now for the 2nd and most important reason: they give you the option of either toggling gyro aiming to either be on all the time, or to just have it on when you pull ZL to aim. This is the method I went with, and after I got used to motion controls in general, I honestly feel like this is THE perfect implementation of gyro aiming. My problem was always that the gyro controls worked great when I needed them to be on, but just served to annoy the living shit out of me when I didn't need them to be on, which was the rest of the time when I wasn't actually trying to shoot. This simple concept of only having gyro/motion controls on when actually aiming with ZL seems like such a common-sense concept to me now that I am absolutely amazed that more game devs haven't caught on to this concept yet, and I really hope to god that more developers try this out in future games. It just works so well, I wish this option was in every shooter I play now. Okay, that's my rant.
Hopefully we'll get an eventual patch to fix those frame drops and crashing problems. We can put that much faith onto saber at least lol. Anyways its great to see one of my favorite games come to the Switch now and if the Switch wasn't a portable console as well I wouldn't bother with this, but that alone makes this worth a pick up for me. In terms of porting games I've preferred Saber's approach to it over Panic Buttton's so I'm very curious to see how PB handles Doom eternal. Hopefully we'll be getting news on that soon. Thanks for the review guys!
Sid Hez and crash. Been playing for about 30-40 min. Never played this game before it’s actually kind a hard I keep getting my butt kicked LOL. I do kind of feel like the aiming is a little off where like I swear I should’ve hit somebody but I don’t from a distance
@@Shhways I remember getting my butt handed to me a lot on the original PC version as well. Yeah, it's not an easy game when compared to something like far cry 2 which I was playing at that time as well.
I saw this was your number 1 in another video. It looks awesome and amazing it’s now on hand held. I remember it coming out on Pc and thinking I’d never be able to run it.
Hey SwitchUp! Awesome stuff guys! I was actually interested in Crysis when it was announced, but it'll stay on my wishlist for now. Thanks for another great vid SwitchUp! Keep up the good work guys! 😎👍
Mark - thanks for another great review. I like the fact that you are not drawn into un-necessary hyperbole. Your enthusiasm is always right up there which is great but I really respect you for remaining authentic. By that I mean that I think there is a difference betwee a game reviewer and a gamer that does reviews. You fall into the latter which is a far more honorble position than that of some of the sell-swords who follow the herd into complaints or into lauding the game up whichsoever is going to get the most clicks and views. As the kids used to say, keep on keepin’ it real... god I am old. Officially very old. Oh well, at least I’ll have my Swicth Lite to sit on my commode with.
Im so glad you mentioned the crashes! I’m on stage 6 now. I had one particular crash was bad for me. I have the physical version of the game, and I got to stage 5. The game crashed on me and closed out. Then, I tried to reload it 3 different times, and every time it loaded, it would just crash again. I ended up having to restart mission 5 again. Other than that, I’m impressed with the game and have been enjoying it so far on the switch
Did you have any issue with the gyro aim with a pro controller? I had several moments where the gyro didnt work at all...the game is good but they need a patch to improve the gyro controls
My favourite skill was definitely the super speed. Going from blowing up a house to stealthily hiding in bushes within a matter of seconds was just the best!
Thing I don’t like is that armour mode depletes energy with time and not just when you take damage. On the PC version I always had it on armour mode by default because it’s what regenerates my energy but protects when there’s shooting. And I may be wrong but it’s not possible to run only “super run”? That seemed annoying. Still, now we have a decent Crisis on our Switches!
Ok, I'm damn impressed by how it looks on the Switch O_O But I'm not willing to buy it for a couple of reasons... 1) I have the OG on Steam 2) No physical release 3) Shooters on consoles are kinda meh when I've grown up playing on PC for the last 22 years :D
Hey, sorry I was a little confused I can't play a game unless I invert the Y axis. I leave the X alone, so does this mean if I invert Y, X would also be inverted?
I played this game (actually Warhead) on my old laptop back in 2009 at probably 15fps and it never bothered me lol. So 22-30fps, mainly 28-30 is fine for a handheld port.
I do a mix of both stealth and going in hot. I like to scout the area and tag enemies and then go back and begin to pick them off. I'll even draw them out of hiding by firing a few rounds up in the air. I love this game. Got all 3 in the eShop. I second all the comments saying we need far cry on switch too. For now, we have this, Skyrim, Witcher 3, Zelda, etc etc. Switch doesn't get enough love frfr
MVPs run towards a shack with Maximum speed, Maximum strenght-jump up, engage Cloak mid-air, find your target, Maximum Armor - shoot, engage cloak again
I'm glad you're honest with this. Looks like they need to look into the crashes and framrerate drops a little. At least it isn't as bad as some ports, though.
This is a prime example of how a great console the Switch really is. In a time of rubbish Nintendo Direct mini’s and shovel ware flooding the eshop, we must remember that regardless of the next console iterations being released by the competition, nothing beats playing greats classics, on the go. We are somewhat spoilt with great first person shooters on the Switch with gyro controls too!
The gyro on this game is terrible. It's almost non existent. Been using gyro with high sensitivity so long now that I can't use dual analog anymore. I find myself moving my controller to gyro aim and the game barely reacting. As a result the controls feels so sluggish.
Why do people keep saying the Switch is a handheld console? ITS NOT! it simply has the option to double as a handheld if one chooses, i have owned my Switch for well over two years now and never, repeat NEVER undocked it once for handheld play, it is NOT a handheld. sorry but it annoys me when people say that. great review overall and thanks for the heads up, buying this now. ;)
Great review as always thanks guys! Shocked Switch 'can play Crysis!' :) I hate motion blur, tends to make me ill, but I'll give this a go at some point.
Idk if I should use my joycons with the satisfye grip (left joycon drifts up at times due to dust probably). Or my beloved joycon pro deus ex machina controllers that feel amazing to use, but lack gyro.
There is a reason why they keep "remastering" games from 2008 (give or take )They had reached the pinnacle of gaming I believe(in regards to gameplay and in game mechanics Ai , etc) and the only improvements that are to be made are in the graphics and lighting effects etc. Thats why we all still play games from this era a Decade On!
@@SwitchUpYt nah , I kinda got turned off after the whole running simulator comments everyone made ..... but of course theres some great newer games just seems like they re release so many last gen games these days is all

We got doom, witcher 3 and now crysis? Oh boy switch is getting better and better
now we need Far Cry Primal!
and bioshock and Diablo!
Tomb raider reboot will also be great
Doom Eternal on the way
@@jadduck Diablo is half off again! Oooooh ... I really wanted the physical copy, but i may go for it ... Just a few days to decide!
Go Mr. Switch! Great review, gives a solid understanding of what we’re getting into.
Laura.
Cheers Laura!
I'm in eshop here we come was unsure until I watched this review great work as always
Looks fantastic. Never had a PC that would run it. I'll pick this up on sale for sure.
Only $29. Pretty good deal already. I just downloaded it and am blown away. Much better looking than PS3 version
Cheers mate!
I hope that they bring back the missing ascension level with a patch in the future.
They can’t, it was already talked about. It’s too CPU heavy.
Appreciate it mate! Mark
This game looks great but can you turn blood effects off? And if yes do you still see the blood splashes in the ground?
oh my goshhhh, welp gonna have to spend 30 bucks.
You’re not wrong! Mark
Same
Anybody know if there’s gonna be a physical release?
No one ever play switch online shooters. I have more fun with mobile shooters than switch offerings.
@@GamesDamesFlames guess we all bunch of nobodies cus you said so!
"Cloak engaged " alllllllllllll right 😏😏😏😏😏
Im so glad you mentioned the crashes!
Oh this game is awesome. Every switch owner should own it.
Crysis on our little switch 😍
Nah not for the Price. You will never see me pay around 30 quid for a game thats a bit younger then probably alot of switch owners.
How's the progression? Any upgrades or carrots on sticks?
Ok, I'm damn impressed by how it looks on the Switch O_O
But I'm not willing to buy it for a couple of reasons...
1) I have the OG on Steam
2) No physical release
3) Shooters on consoles are kinda meh when I've grown up playing on PC for the last 22 years :D
You make it sound like we should care about your gaming preferences 🤔
Obviously PC *is* the platform for shooters:
Quake, Counter Strike, Unreal Tournament, Half Life, Doom, Crysis, Far Cry, etc.
reasonable =]
How's this game going after updates? Any better or worse performance?
Great review! So many games, I think I'll wait and see if it eventually goes on sale.
That shot at the start tho ♥ Love it!
Emergency ad comes up halfway through the review
"999 what is your emergency?"
"Yeah you're getting in the way of me watching a review"
at least it wasnt "RAAAAGE - SHADOW LEGENDS!!!!!!!" in the middle of a 10 hour rain-sound loop for sleeping to XD XD XD but i feel your pain lol
Did they add the option to turn off motion blur
Looks solid, gonna wait for a sale but definitely a pickup. Never played it before either, so looking forward to it!
You’ll love it then man. Mark
hopefully itll be reduced by next year
@@debbiereilly8001 be about the time id catch up on my backlog anyway 😂
I do a mix of both stealth and going in hot. I like to scout the area and tag enemies and then go back and begin to pick them off. I'll even draw them out of hiding by firing a few rounds up in the air. I love this game. Got all 3 in the eShop. I second all the comments saying we need far cry on switch too. For now, we have this, Skyrim, Witcher 3, Zelda, etc etc. Switch doesn't get enough love frfr
@SwitchUp what was that picture of the spanner on the joycon symbol in the bottom left of the screen for?
Custom controls through system. Mark
Is ark fixed on recent patch mark? Kinda curious
Mb crisis 2 and 3 will come to the Nintendo switch ?
MVPs run towards a shack with Maximum speed, Maximum strenght-jump up, engage Cloak mid-air, find your target, Maximum Armor - shoot, engage cloak again
I'm glad you're honest with this. Looks like they need to look into the crashes and framrerate drops a little. At least it isn't as bad as some ports, though.
ive seen worse COUGH mafia2 COUGH
@@debbiereilly8001 lol.
Are there any drivable vehicles? Tanks, jeeps, etc?
Why not watch the video and see for yourself?
The game looks and runs great but I find it difficult to aim in portable mode and with the joycons , it will also randomly freeze at times
i find it harder to aim with them attached as well, in other games i mean, i usually prop mine up and use them seperately
havent had any trouble while using that method
You can also have blood on or off in the graphics settings.
This game was on my most wanted on Switch list... ✅
Would love it if you could do your FPS analysis for all of Docked, Handheld and Lite modes (not sure if Lite differs from Handheld?)
Lite/handheld would be same but can certainly try! Mark
So wait, can you not invert the Y axis separately for aiming?
Chan i agree, Gyro is terrible here! No separate Sensitivity Option for it is a Joke!
Why do people keep saying the Switch is a handheld console? ITS NOT! it simply has the option to double as a handheld if one chooses, i have owned my Switch for well over two years now and never, repeat NEVER undocked it once for handheld play, it is NOT a handheld. sorry but it annoys me when people say that. great review overall and thanks for the heads up, buying this now. ;)
Hehe you could also say it’s a Handheld with docked ability if one chooses. It’s all semantics no worries either way really. Mark
Have the game a silence finisher move?
Great review as always thanks guys! Shocked Switch 'can play Crysis!' :) I hate motion blur, tends to make me ill, but I'll give this a go at some point.
Would you recommend this or red faction? I’m looking for a game with good destruction, graphics, fun gameplay, a good story and length. Thanks!😂
i really want to try red faction i hear the controls are really archaic though so i havent broken down and got it yet, looks so good tho
Idk if I should use my joycons with the satisfye grip (left joycon drifts up at times due to dust probably). Or my beloved joycon pro deus ex machina controllers that feel amazing to use, but lack gyro.
Videogame trees are the strongest substance in the universe
Just bought Sniper Elite 3 and I really enjoyed the sandbox style levels. This looks fun too. I would love to have Far Cry 3 on the switch too.
Yes! That would be amazing!
On a side note: if you have a PS4, Far Cry 3 is $6.00!!
it pleases me that so many people are asking or far cry. id love to see fc:primal
@@debbiereilly8001 yeah i love all of the games in the far cry franchise and primal has a nice charm to it
really goes to show people in 2020 do not care about visuals like they used to and it's working out really well for nintendo.
I really like the way u review games and just stay true to the game.. Keep up the gud work.. 👍
Have you played Death Stranding?
@@SwitchUpYt nah , I kinda got turned off after the whole running simulator comments everyone made ..... but of course theres some great newer games just seems like they re release so many last gen games these days is all
Is multiplayer available on switch?
Crepuscular rays is the name of my favourite art rock band
Well, tech didn’t turn out quite as bad ass as Crysis predicted for 2020. Then again, we now have a handheld that can run Crysis. So amazing consolation prize.
