"Keep adding chillies till the police arrive." is the very best joke I ever got out of SU&SD. I use the tag in every situation that fits and get laughing tears out of anyone. Thank you.
10/10 accurate gameplay representation. Complimenting someone’s beautifully calculated run while you’re holding the keys to scoring was definitely my highlight
I ended up just buying the German version and downloading the English PDF of the rules from boardgamegeek. As there is basically no text in the game it works fine in German. Flammenbaum is my favourite tree!
Probably the most informative "how to" game video I've ever watched. Just remember, "It looks quite plain, but it's probably gonna blow your face off."
We definitely need a separate channel just for cooking videos 😍 Also, the trees from another planet bit makes me want an arbortoreeum rerelease rethemed for an alien planet with sci fi trees 👽
I had not seen this video, and here i am, 4 years after it aired, and i think i just found the best SUSD video ever. Thank you Quinns, thank you Matt, im definitely trying the recipe.
I bought this game and personally love it but I have a couple of friends who just don't get it and won't play it again. They just don't get the scoring mechanic at all. Doesn't matter how many times I go through it and from different approaches - it's always the same.
I had this up on one side of my screen while I was working and I lost focus on the video for about 2 minutes whilst typing a paragraph. I looked back and suddenly the board game review had become a cooking tutorial for pasta? And it was still entertaining and the food looked delicious? A very confused 9/10
Great review chaps. Got hold of this game a few days ago and have just tried it out. We didn't fully read the rules on scoring and the later version looks to have a different set of rules; i.e. winning the right to score a path. This lead to a nil-nil game and we're now waiting 5 years to see who wins the tie break.
Can I give this video another thumb up (or two)? I just watched it again because I was finally able to find a copy of this game, and it is hilarious (and genius). Thanks for being awesome!
i have the new vibrant colour version .. i feel like they could have created at least 2 solo ways to play but have not unfortunately, i will try make one .... it is a very pleasant game to play, i don't tend to think about winning and losing, just enjoy creating.
This reminds me a lot of the card game "Pinacle" (French title), but more visual based. It's not a bad thing at all, I quite enjoy Pinacle. It's the only game my grandma ever plays (no one can stop this lady from winning!), so maybe I should try and find Arboretum. I'm sure she'd like it! PS: Matt, I'm hungry now...
Board Game Review + Cooking with Goofy Dialogue. Keep doing this please :). especially love the one u did with Mystic Vale. Thank you for being a Druid.
You guys forgot the part where if each player end on a tie, they have to plant a tree and see in 5 years which tree is the tallest (im not joking, it's in the rule)
@@sanaai6525 i am serious ''Declaring the winner Once the sum of each player’s scored paths is determined, the player with most points wins. In case of a tie, the player with the most colors present in her arboretum is the winner. If there is still a tie, the players must each plant a tree. In 5 years’ time, the player whose tree has grown the tallest wins.''
The first couple of times I played arnpotream, I just thought it was ok. After having a longer break from the game, it turned out I realy liked it. Now I am the owner of the deluxe version with the realy cool box and the awful foiled cards.
Feel the same. The cooking segments didn't seam to land right, unfortunately, but I loved them because I'm hopeless in a kitchen and these videos gave me hope.
Silly question but what's the word he uses to describe the oak at 11:03 every way I try to type it just comes back with avuncular, and I don't think his uncle's an oak
From what I understand, avuncular has a wider meaning than literally referring to an uncle, it's also used generally to describe a kind older man. You can check the dictionaries.
Around 5 minutes I was like this game is not complex enough to do a 19 minute video what is going on??? And then there was broccoli and things became clear. And also way less clear
Great review ... but you are making this spicy pasta sauce completely wrong. It should be obvious ... but the anchovies should of course have been bacon!
I wished I'd watched this video before playing it, because we fucked up a lot of the rules of the game playing yesterday! After watching this video I'm no longer sure how to know what a path is....
I can't speak for SU&SD, but I got this quite recently and I feel exactly the same way about it as they did here. I found it to be remarkably deep, tense and clever for a card game with relatively simple rules. Is there anything in particular about it that fell flat for you?
Why, where, when, and how did this turn into a cooking video
A cooking show with Matt is the cooking show I've always ever wanted.
It's not the cooking show we never knew we needed, and the show we don't deserve.
The relief when Quins finally pronounced arboretum was...... a relief.
I legitimately have been using this recipe for years now, cooking it right now. It's amazingly tasty yet simple!
"Keep adding chillies till the police arrive." is the very best joke I ever got out of SU&SD. I use the tag in every situation that fits and get laughing tears out of anyone. Thank you.
quinns nodding like a joyous child over that pasta makes my little heart quite warm
That "it's good" face that Quinns makes at the very end is just too damn funny
10/10 accurate gameplay representation. Complimenting someone’s beautifully calculated run while you’re holding the keys to scoring was definitely my highlight
I am so close to going out and buying all ingredients for this dish! When is the "Shut Up & Sit Down & Eat Up" channel getting started?
The cooking bits are great. Please keep doing that.
I blame your brilliant review for causing this game to be impossible to find.
Yeah, it's not like cardboard grows on trees!
Andr0ss Don't blame it on the nice lads, blame Zman for printing 200 copies of every game.
I ended up just buying the German version and downloading the English PDF of the rules from boardgamegeek. As there is basically no text in the game it works fine in German. Flammenbaum is my favourite tree!
New printing out now. It's blue and full of American trees.
See also - "Ladies and Gentlemen"...
Top tip for you Matt, use the back of your knife to push what’s on your chopping board into the pan. Stops you blunting the blade.
I used to hate board games and cooking until I saw this video. Now I'm surrounded by confused friends and there is a knife in my hand :)
Hold up
Probably the most informative "how to" game video I've ever watched. Just remember, "It looks quite plain, but it's probably gonna blow your face off."
So I have watched this video 3 times. The first time was to see how to play Arboretum. The other times was to make the pasta sauce.
You guys are the Top Gear of board games. Except without beating up an Irishman and getting cancelled.
I think this is the ultimate backhanded compliment.
I am from 5 years on the future. You will see! 🥷
Can I hire the person who's doing the captions to place captions in my day-to-day life? Would add a whole other dimension to living.
Came for the review. Stayed for the cooking show! Shut up and Eat up! Is my favorite channel.
You guys are awesome! LOVE the running "Python-esque" jokes. Too funny, and wow - what a great surprise with a cooking lesson!!! A+++
I've been playing this for years and still love it, what a treat of a game, simple but deep at the same time. Awesome review as usual!
We definitely need a separate channel just for cooking videos 😍
Also, the trees from another planet bit makes me want an arbortoreeum rerelease rethemed for an alien planet with sci fi trees 👽
Full of fun, a bit of cooking, and very informative about Arbor...... Many thanks! This is not easy to do.
I unironically want Matt Lees to do ASMR game reviews
I had not seen this video, and here i am, 4 years after it aired, and i think i just found the best SUSD video ever. Thank you Quinns, thank you Matt, im definitely trying the recipe.
You guys are a riot! Originally bypassed "Arbortorium" because of the theme, but you have really made me consider it. Great Review.
Saving this video for the cooking at the end.
Are-Bore-EE-tum, geez, did you never watch TNG?
they pronounced it correctly by accident...twice.
I think that was the joke, no?
Whaddabout are-bore-eh-tum?
I bought this game and personally love it but I have a couple of friends who just don't get it and won't play it again. They just don't get the scoring mechanic at all. Doesn't matter how many times I go through it and from different approaches - it's always the same.
im very happy with the result of this recipe, thanks for the cooking lesson susd

saved to my cooking playlist
I really enjoy Arboretum. Greater starter game for a game day. The best tree is the Magnolia
See, this is how you do an ASMR comedy bit. Also I really want Arboretum.
New Favourite Channel! Love the antics, you are all brilliant!
I loved how it randomly turned into a cooking video 😂
Can I give this video another thumb up (or two)? I just watched it again because I was finally able to find a copy of this game, and it is hilarious (and genius). Thanks for being awesome!
I recently got this game and apparently I got the super pretty edition that comes in a wood box and had shiny cards.
i have the new vibrant colour version .. i feel like they could have created at least 2 solo ways to play but have not unfortunately, i will try make one .... it is a very pleasant game to play, i don't tend to think about winning and losing, just enjoy creating.
The game has been out long enough now that someone could have completed the second tiebreaker… 😮
"Horticultural Varys" is now my favourite line!
9:54 hell freezes over and quinn pronounces the thing correctly
I actually really want to try that pasta recipe, and I don't normally like cooking.
now that this costs $300, I'm feeling a little bad about not buying this for $40.
It's just a steamer mate. You can pick em up for £5 at Ikea.
1:15 got me good with that one
This reminds me a lot of the card game "Pinacle" (French title), but more visual based.
It's not a bad thing at all, I quite enjoy Pinacle. It's the only game my grandma ever plays (no one can stop this lady from winning!), so maybe I should try and find Arboretum. I'm sure she'd like it!
PS: Matt, I'm hungry now...
this video makes me want to buy ar-ba-torium
edit: at 9:48 you messed up and accidentally pronounced it correctly.
And at like 3:49 too
every time one of them said "arbotoreum" i died a little inside.
Why?

Amazing review that even features a Steam Controller!

That mug, I needs it.
I played this game at Origins this year - easily my favorite of the games I tried this summer. I'm so disappointed with how hard it is to find.
That's how you do a good asmr joke without just ridiculing the entire community 👍
MARM Did you really just come back 1 1/2 years later to make the SAME FUCKING COMMENT? What are you, a fucking MADMAN?
I subscribed in the first 15 sec... you guys are great.
it’s cool that they got their approval sticker on the boxes now
Visiting here again after 5 years and man... Matt must make another cooking video.
Feel the same. The cooking segments didn't seam to land right, unfortunately, but I loved them because I'm hopeless in a kitchen and these videos gave me hope.
4:09. That's it, that's the game.
you guys are so adorkable
Love it, the weirdest video of board games if there ever was one.
I just picked up a copy of the new edition of Arboretum
They uh, they put the logo on the back of the cards in the new edition x_x
I actually prefer the new edition I think - the card backs are maybe not as nice, but I like the revised artwork a little better.
My new favorite cooking show!
Great review lol the asmr bit killed me. We just got this deluxe version of the game for xmas and it was a ton of fun!
finally got to play this last weekend at CanCon. Deceptively clever game.
Came for the board games. Stayed for the pasta

Maybe I'm just daft but 奇數参照 has nothing to do with broccoli or trees or anything lmao.
More cooking shows should adopt the "Actually, just do whatever the fuck you want" mentality.
I love matts jumper
Around 5 minutes I was like this game is not complex enough to do a 19 minute video what is going on??? And then there was broccoli and things became clear. And also way less clear
Hahahaha, laughed so hard at the mispronunciation XD
My dream in life is to get WAY too close to someone and say “you don’t get SHIT. You don’t get.. . You don’t get NOTHING.”
Where's the Patreon for Matt's cooking show?
Need more cooking with Matt asap
so, when a native english speaker sees a word with more than 3 syllables, he just denies moving his eyes past the first 5 letters?

People must be confused reading the comments about cooking show while watching the video.
Now I want to buy this game!
now this regular feature can stay. there will be touching.
Was that random Fred Dinenage at the end?
(in Hermione's voice) It Arbor-*eh*-tum. Not arbor-Torrie-Oreo-dinosaur-eww-itstie…tums
Great review ... but you are making this spicy pasta sauce completely wrong.
It should be obvious ... but the anchovies should of course have been bacon!
Why for pity sake would you be using a brushcutter in your apartment Sir.
Do you score point off other people when you have the high cards or only your own
Only your own arboretum
Was the broccoli comment a reference to animorphs?
I thought that Matt was throwing up gang signs in the thumbnail
I wished I'd watched this video before playing it, because we fucked up a lot of the rules of the game playing yesterday! After watching this video I'm no longer sure how to know what a path is....
Genius
I feel like I'm not in on a joke. Why was I taught how to cook?
You bet your acorns!
I love my Steam controller!
Our-Burrito
How to play this game? Grab a cooking pot.
this review was responsible for that typo on the Rebel Games reprint of this
Arbortoreaum?🤣
I bought this based on your recommendation. Unfortunately It was not nearly as good as you made it sound Does this review still hold true to you?

Well done gentleman. I couldn't tell if you lot couldn't pronounce Arboretum or you were just taking the piss.
At one point Quinns says "Ar bor re rectum"
11:21 After playing many games of this I can 100% agree, the Willows ARE Shit.
