    Pip guarded magic for 1.5 games and then they went back to Mike because he was more effective. That story has been told so many times people think it's true. And the pistons were still in their prime (albeit the end of their run but an average age of 29 is still prime). The bulls almost beat them in 90 without Pip (migraine).

    • @iveywebb44
      @iveywebb44 หลายเดือนก่อน +49

      This is 100% true. it wasn't even a full 1.5 games. MJ guarded magic for 85% of the series. As you say tho, the story has been told so many times people think it's true. There must be so few people now that have actually watched the series that people aren't even aware they are spreading a false story. The whole series is on youtube, i always direct people to go watch it and see how much Pippen actually guarded Magic for. The other thing that always shows if people ever watched mj or not is how they assess his defence. People see the height differential and decide that Pip must have guarded the bigger wings but it was the opposite. Jordan was the far more agressive and physically strong player. Pippen got physically abused by stronger scoring wings, he was much better on smaller ball handling guards. Mj often had to switch onto the scoring sf's to shut them down whilst Pippen was getting worked. Also in the playoffs, for their careers, Jordan guarded the better wing scorer in more games and for more time than Pippen. People see Jordans lofty scoring numbers and imagine pip was the shut down guy to preserve jordans energy. That wasn't the mentality back then Mj wanted to check the other teams best player.

By the time he hit the NBA, he was already one of the top players in the NBA.

    9:15 Jordan CREATED opportunities for his teammates through his own movement (as opposed to relying on everyone else moving around him), threat to score, and general creativity. He didn't just throw it to dudes who were open --- that's a silly assertion, one that's actually much more true of Luka (who, to me, isn't in the class of passer of Magic, Bird, Jokic, or, yes, MJ) than it is Jordan. Severely underrated as a passer and playmaker, that man is.

      To be fair, Scottie was pressured and agreed to that underpaid contract by himself, which Last Dance discussed in pretty great detail, why Scottie, arguably the 2nd best player in the NBA, were among the worst-paid player in the NBA. Don’t forget the game was a lot slower back then. Yeah the rules changed for offense as time went on, making defense harder and loosening the carry rules and adding the zero step, but defense is also harder now bc of how fast players have gotten. And shooting opens up the floor, have to guard all the way up or you risk a made 3 since everyone can shoot now.

    My only flex when it comes to Jordan was I got to see him play his last ever official game with Kobe at Staples Center in 2003, which happened to be the one and only live NBA game I had ever been to till today. He was already with the Wizards but this goat never lost his edge. Going at it with Kobe during his prime even while he was heading out for retirement was such a spectacle to witness. That game will forever be a treasured memory of mine and it really was like a passing of the torch from one generation to the next which made it even more special. No one will ever replace or come close to MJ he was just cut from a different cloth

    Great video. Jordan showed us what's possible in a human. Not just with basketball or sports, but with the mind, willpower and determination. He was almost like a physical tool from God to teach humanity, or the portion who could see it, the power of will. It is in my opinion why he was so highly regarded by so many no matter where they were from or what their interests were. The deepest part of us knows this greatness when it sees it.
