    here is a film of the boss dd-8 digital delay pedal. this guitar pedal features 11 modes, which are analog, standard, warm, tape, reverse, +rv, shimmer, mod, warp, glt & loop. this delay includes stereo out, a looper, tap tempo, modulation & much more. this pedal is capable of sounds & tones of many different genres, such as ambient, indie, shoegaze, dream pop, post-rock, blues & grunge. use this pedal solo, or add to your effects pedal set up / rig & on your pedalboard with effects like reverb, delay, tremolo, phaser, overdrive, fuzz, distortion, chorus, pitch shifter & flanger. the guitar i used is a fender kurt cobain jaguar & the amp a roland jc-40. the roland jc-40 is one of the options in the roland jazz chorus family, alongside others like the jc-20, jc-22, jc-50, jc-55, jc-77, jc-85, jc-120, jc-160 & jc 200. in this video i create slowdive-like sounds with just this one pedal & the jazz chorus amp. slowdive are known for songs such as ‘souvlaki space station,’ ‘when the sun hits,’ ‘alison,’ ‘golden hair’ {syd barrett cover}, ‘star roving,’ ‘crazy for you,’ ‘sugar for the pill’ & many others on albums such as ‘souvlaki’ & ‘pygmalion.’ support the band’s music in the links above, including links to full albums.

      For real. I've been trying to work out how to use mine to it's full potential for ages now, finding this video has instantly answered every question I had. Only thing the manual covers is how to use the loop function, which I figured out before even reading the manual 😅

    10:01 seeing Slowdive live is a great place-holder for one's life. you remember your life before, and your life after the event. The shows i saw concluded with Golden Hair and Souvlaki Space Station. i've always considered myself to be lucky, and enjoying these shows seems to be a good proof of that mindset.
    thanks for another awesome video.

      nicely said. i love how they change things up live, different takes on 'souvlaki space station' for example, different delay sounds, tempos etc. & you haven't heard 'golden hair' until you hear slowdive play it live. thanks for watching :)

    Beautiful demo, new subscriber smash that like button and I've shared 24 of my guitar playing Buddies! When I finish watching your demo I immediately ordered mine from Sweetwater! So much more bang for the back with the stereo ins-and-outs which I really need because I generally run three or four amplifiers. And it amazes me how many of the 300-plus dollar units were not stereo. That's a deal-breaker for me.

    Absolutely gorgeous sounds man! I don’t even play with stereo set up on mine, but I’ve recently picked up a Roland JC-20 for dirt cheap (inspired by your use of a jazz chorus). Ever see a JC-20? There’s not much on the internet about it but the built in chorus has 2 modes, with each mode getting a deeper and faster chorus sound as you change between them.

    • @pedalpartners

    I don't think Warp mode is comparable to a hold function: while pressing down the footswitch everything you play will be added to the sound you're "holding", so it's more like a feedback maximiser or something like that, it can get crazy really quick!

    Love your videos bud. I have been playing around with this pedal for a week and loving it, especially when paired with a Holy Grail Max (thanks for getting me into that one, next is a JC-40, you're selling me tones!). My only gripe with it is being a bass player heavily, I wish that shimmer tracked the lower strings as much as the high strings (it rarely catches and often produces a short dark burst if anything). If only Boss gave us bass players a Delay as well. Since you've got one, I figured I'd ask (if you have a way to test for the bassists out here) how well does your Strymon Timeline track with it's Shimmer and Ice effects on lower registers for us lower register bassists out here? Might be an easy answer (I've considered it and the Mooer Ocean Machine for this effect but have heard the OM has tech issues, freezes, and gets grainy at times). Either or, thanks for the awesome videos, really have learned a lot and gained some great gear from your knowledge and information!

    • @pedalpartners
      @pedalpartners  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thanks so much dude, glad to have helped you in your gear acquisition ;) i'm afraid i haven't tried a bass through the timeline. the only thing i can say is the strymon's ice machine is much more tweakable, offers a variety of pitches {can't remember exactly how many, but offers a bunch of both lower octave & higher octave options}. hope this helps a little! & the jc is incredible, hope you get one :D

      @@pedalpartners Thanks for the reply brother! Absolutely, reignited my love for the BD-2 and alot more. Big thanks! Gosh, looks like it's ramen for dinner again. I can't help but be enthralled by that machine! Absolutely, I think being able to play with octaves and pitch will help with that shimmer sounding so ominous and dark on bass! Looking forward to it myself, thanks again for all your information. Keep it up with the great content and thanks again!

    When you are picking between the 3 stereo modes, is the cable that you plug into input B going anywhere on the other end? Also you didn't remove it in the video. If and when you do unplug it, is there anything else to do in order to save the mode you selected? ie: tap the foot switch one more time?
    Or do you just let go of the foot switch after you select the mode?
    Will it be saved after power is off?
    Thank you 😊

      pedal partners Thank you so much man, I love how attentive you are to the comments section on your videos. I think I’m gonna end up with one of these Roland amps then! They seem great and I think it will be a favorite of mine as well ;) thanks a lot bro!

    if one were to record the tap signal and have that sample play every 1/8th note coming from a DAW note sent back into DD-8, would the DD-8 stay in sync with the DAW?

    Great video once again!! One question though is that if the JC-40 is loud enough to gig with or would the JC-120 be better for that.

    • @pedalpartners
      @pedalpartners  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      thanks dude! it's easily loud enough to gig with :) i've used it for shows large & small, the volume knob hardly ever goes past 9 o'clock it's so loud

      pedal partners For live use, if the amp is mic’ed, is there a mic on the dry speaker (left), the wet speaker (right), or both? (I would like it to be both, at least in theory.)

    • @pedalpartners
      @pedalpartners  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chiefbucknell tbh the sound guys usually just did one mic wherever they saw fit. i think next time i play live i'll be running two amps, perhaps even two jcs for quadraphonic sound haha. when recording i mic both speakers.

    Looking through the time stamps, I didn’t see subdivisions. I know the manual says how to activate sub mode, but doesn’t really go in depth about saving settings. Could you explain this feature?

    If you record a loop and switch to a delay mode, will the loop continue to play? I know you can only overdub in the loop mode but can you record a backing track and then switch to a delay mode and solo over the backing track you created or when you switch modes does the loop stop playing?
    Thanks,

    If you had to chose between the DD-20 and the DD-8, which would you chose?

    • @pedalpartners
      @pedalpartners  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      that's a good question! i would say the dd-8, a lot of great new modes like glt & shimmer + incredible stereo imaging {including panning} in all modes, except loop mode.
