  • Our Epic journey continues as Doug and I make the 20+ hour journey from Montana to Idaho to join up with Nick Adair from the Gun Dog it Yourself Podcast for 3 days in Chukar country. I can't wait to get back up in that steep terrain for my revenge!!

    Great video Man! This is on my "barrel list" as well. I overflowed a bucket and now its a barrel list. I just got back from MT and we had a great trip. I left my GoPro out there with my buddy, but hopefully I got enough video to put together a couple videos. He drove with the dogs and all the gear and I flew. I am looking forward to the AZ season vicariously through your videos.

    I thought Upland hunting was fun, then I shot my first chukar. The feeling you get shouting for joy on what feels like the top of the world is second to none. Another amazing video

      Doug and I were in Tents. It was quick trip and lots of road time so that was the easiest. We got lucky and stayed in camp grounds that had shower facilities. It was pretty nice 😁

    What was the other camera? Hero 9?

    • @azquailadventures
      @azquailadventures  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes sir...needed a proven budget cam that I knew would work the way I like to use it. Worked great with my setup!

      @@azquailadventures The Hero 9 was the worst performing gopro... hated that thing. You didn't get another 9 did you?

      @@TheRoamingHazard I actually went to the 9 from my 10 that has decided to give up on me. The way I like to run my setup without the internal battery and only on an external battery running hindsight the 9 works better than the newer models based on the software. The 10 and newer updated the software to make it nearly impossible to run an external without the internal in. The GP's suck for heat dissipation so running without the internal batt is critical in the AZ heat to allow me to get the action shots I want. Time will tell if it keeps working but it worked flawlessly for 3 straight days being on for 5-7 hours per day running hindsight the whole time. The real test will be next week on the AZ Quail opener. Always in the 90's. Those days have always been hard for me to film because the GP overheats too quickly running hindsight or looping. I need to look into the new DJI 4 to see if it supports looping. I know it doesn't have a hindsight feature. The temp specs on that in both hot and cold make GP almost obsolete, at least for the way I shoot.

      @@azquailadventures I run my Gopros the same way with the internal battery removed for the same reason to minimize overheating and not have to switch batteries all the time. When I first got my 11 I had the same issue of not being able to power it externally without the internal battery inside... and you were never really able to run it from external power, it just charged the onboard battery. I then discovered that hindsight has a default 15 min timeout where it shut's itself off automatically... to prevent overheating. But that sort of defeats it's purpose. I installed the labs firmware to be able to adjust it to 60 mins. Installing labs also automatically solved the being able to power it externally. The 11 has worked almost flawlessly since. My only complaints are the touch screen could still work better and I have since realized that memory cards go bad after awhile and cause issues which is fixed by popping in a new one and trashing the old one after I take the footage off. Also I believe the the DJI Action 4 did just add something equal to hindsight. That camera handles overheating much better then gopro and is better in pre dawn low light.

      @@azquailadventures So yeah these cameras are a bit of a pain to figure out. I noticed you having some camera angle issues later in the vid. IF you can stomach wearing your hat backwards I've got a much better way of mounting the camera on my channel. Everything about the camera angle footage and lining up the lens with the barrel etc is better. Everything about shooting toward the sun when hunting is not. LOL. So it's not for everybody or every day time of day etc. Like my first two dove vids this year I just actively made the choice to mostly shoot birds facing away from the sun as soon as it came up for the sake of filming.
      I'm here going though withdrawls here in CA watching all these vids of everybody that went to Montana and Idaho. I don't think I can wait another 2 weeks and I'll probably see if I can do chukar in NV next weekend. Keep up the vids.
