Figured this was WI. Nice video and commentary. Lifetime New England Upland hunter. Some with dogs mostly without. “Woodsmanship” for sure. I like your emphasis on always questioning “when, where, why?” The birds are where they are. I call it my “Grouse sense” or “The bird dog in me!” Thanks for the walk.
Well I finally managed to check it out. Wow, super high quality. This is honestly one of my favorite TH-cam bird hunting videos to date. Keep 'em comjng
Awesome video by Nick L. & narration by Nick A.!! It really helps to see prime grouse and woodcock habitat. I certainly got me pumped to be hunting with you!😄👍🏻👊🏻
Great work. Very well done. As a person that has never hunted grouse but has been doing a lot of research this is a very well done visual explanation of what to look for. Thank you
Well done y'all! I've always wanted to hunt up in the Northern States for these. Our season here in N.C. is too late, Dec.11- Jan.31, imo. Almost all of the birds ( Woodcock) I see, are way earlier, end of August - November. Great compilation! From Sophia, N.C.
Thanks for watching! When I initially started hunting WC in TN that was the case as well. Myself and a bunch of others chased down the powers that be in this state and eventually got the season split into two sections rather than just the 1 season that ran primarily through deer hunting season. I think itd be something worth pursuing in NC as well.
They were purchased separately. There are a number of mounts and straps available on the market now. GoPro has their own head band that you can slide on and off. I personally prefer a sturdier mount on the bill of my hat as I think its more stable. Especially when banging around in the high stem density grouse woods. Its easy for a headstrap to get knocked around on top of your head by a random branch or something.
What video equipment do you use on the head mount? I'm getting a new pup in a few weeks and I want to do a better job of documenting our adventures than I did with my last GSP!
The head mount is a GoPro 9 or 10 with a mount installed on the hat thats a bit more stable than just a head strap. Theres a USB-C cable running from the GoPro camera to an external battery pack in the vest to ensure theres no issue on battery life during a hunt.
Nick and Nick, this was a great piece of knowledge sharing. You can tell me all day long how pretty your friends sister is, but until I see a picture, it's only your opinion.
I miss hunting thoes rocketships here in New Jersey . In the last sixty years most of the habitat has gone the way by housing projects and two years ago they closed hunting for them because the number of them has plumited so low but I have great memories that hunters here will never have. 🇺🇸
Cherish those memories! Unfortunately there are numerous areas and regions where population is still on the decline. Jersey should be a warning to all that it can all go away very quickly!
We had a freakin incredible time, thanks for letting us be a part of it!
Well done guys! Congrats on the first birds!

Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it. No way to improve one's. "Grouse Sense" without always asking those questions!
I've been chasing these birds for years - this was awesome, very well done and I actually learned a few things!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!

Can we say Emmy Award?? Great job
Appreciate it Ron. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
Good stuff
This looks just like the Deadhorse Lake Ruffed Grouse Management Demonstration Area in Mercer Wisconsin.
I havent been to that specific area but its a good sign if it reflects some of the habitat we found throughout this location!
Did you mount the GoPro to the ball cap yourself or did you purchase the hat with it already attached?

@@gundogityourself Thanks. I don't like the strap either. Excellent video!

I'd move to Michigan Wisconsin or Minnesota. Life's to short not to enjoy this magnificent bird and the dog that becomes your partner.
