Ahh, the sounds of Mearns hunting. Sucking air, flushes as your feet, rocks rolling down the steep slopes. Love it! Looks as reported, lack of young birds? Mostly carryover? They certainly are stunners.
Ha! Add on top of that all the air I am using to yell Whoa at the young dogs that are too amped up and you have my hunt in a nut shell LOL! Yes, not many young of the year. Lack of Monsoon rains kept the recruitment low this year. Still finding birds but I can't remember the last time I shot so many mount quality males this early in the season.
Nice!! I think we all learn that rule over and over of always trust your dog. I'm sure if the dogs could talk, they would be saying "How many times do I have to tell you"🤣
In all the years I have been going down to the border I have never run into any trouble myself. Other than the occasional case of water that goes missing. Don't be mistaken, it is a problem but, that close to the border they don't want to encounter anyone much less someone carrying a gun. There are areas I choose to avoid personally but others hunt there and have no issues. We run across discarded backpacks, clothes and garbage every time we are out. I have run across fresh cache's of water and food a few times deep in the canyons. When I see that I just call the dogs and head the other direction.
It was great hunting with you, and those dogs are going to be something special as they age!
Thanks man! It's always fun to hunt with you!! Lets get out again soon!
Absolutely gorgeous birds - thanks for taking us along on your wonderful adventures!
Thank you for coming along by watching!!

Serious question: Did y'all encounter any difficulties down there as a result of the current border/immigration situation?
