Only 3 1/2 years late in viewing this video but well worth the wait.So much atmosphere and great '''sounds".A glass (or two!)of Scotland's finest made this a superb and very enjoyable experience.Cheers Mike for yet another Cracker.
I do enjoy going through your back catalogue Mike. I have also spent a few nights at stations though generally as a teenager. Carlisle was always a favourite with the mail trains and the sleepers. Watching this has given me the bug to start again!
Has it, well nothing wrong with that mate. when I collected all that stock we had in the 80s I loved that part of the hobby at lot and I cleared all the stock that was running doing lots of all-nights around the country and going round depots and carriage sidings Julian. I just loved collecting stock in them days. Cheers Mike.
I was on a Midland Day ranger during the Falklands Conflict, and fell asleep (like you do lol). Next thing I know I wake up just as the signs for Crewe were passing the windows of my Mk1 compartment coach. Unfortunately the signs were going by quicker and quicker...next stop Carlisle. I arrive in Carlisle well past midnight and had to wait until gone 6 the next morning for a train back to the midlands. Eventually got home at midday. My mum (R.I.P. mum) didn't even realise I had been out...thought I was having a lie in....ffs. Great memories.
Yes David that convoy was a nice bonus for me on the night, it was running about 50 mins late which wasn't a problem as I wasn't going anywhere. Cheers Mike.
Just caught up with this one Mike! Freight at night has a certain romance for me - although you probably wouldn't agree whilst standing around on draughty platforms! Great camera angles and the station lighting really helped to show wagon detail to great effect.
Thank you Ian for your continued interest in my videos, over the years I've had some very good all-nighter, but them day are gone now as the freight traffic is getting to little to be out all night. Mike.
Some very nice nocturnal action there Mike. It may not be as busy as in the past, but still a decent evening spell and lots of Class 86's to enjoy - in fact plenty of electric freight traction unlike the southern WCML!
The first 66 was pulling a hefty load. Amazing how many 86's passed through. And have to say thats an unexpected video. Must have been cold. Thanks for sharing.
Well Richard I wasn't cold as I had plenty of clothing on, regarding the class 86 it the best time to get them on film, and yes that shed sounded awesome didn't it. Mike.
Great video, decent variety & plenty of 86’s. I remember doing a few all night sessions there myself 30 years ago. I hope you gave that guy a mouthful :-)
Excellent video. Some really nice long trains there, plus the convoy. Even competing with Keith (smilevideotrains) for best continuity shots, with the 66 overtaking the two 86's :)
2:19 nice catch of all those locomotives coupled together! 4:08 nice to see some freightliner electric locos! 11:23 So I guess freightliner uses their electric locos more than I thought! 12:58 nice catch of a full EWS livery class 90 25:07 nice catch of a special ivery GBRF loco! 27:19 nice catch of a class 90 still in gray!
Well done Antman, once again. It is as it always is: the night shift for intermodal and aggregates traffic, when the main lines are free of passenger traffic. the the game in Germnay !
Just something about trains at nightime, when i was a young lad, most of our train trips here in south africa was on sleeper trains, lol i never slept, watching out of the window at every stop and the goings on at the mostly quiet stations during the night, just the odd steam engine doing some shunting, lol i can carry on all night!
I know what you mean Theo as every time I have travelled on a sleeper train to Scotland I got very little sleep as its very bumpy, always better on the return because you are so knackered. Regards Mike.
This is an excellent video Mike, very enjoyable. Might not be as many people around as in the good 'ole days but that was an impressive selection of freight and so nice to see the 86s still in daily service, some 54 yrs after the first one was built. I'd love to know what "words" you had with that guy that got in your way when filming the 90s departing......the guy that was an uncanny resemblance to your identical twin brother !!!
I was a fireman at kingmoor carlisle we worked the very first frieght liner called the condor from glasgow then on to heandon london at the beging it was hualed by two class 5s then later by a sulzer dieziel the two class 5s were changed at carlisle on the run to london we stayed in the railway hostel at crickelwood then next eve back to carlisle we became the first 100 pound a week railway men
Kevin I would like to, the distance of being two hundred miles away is not a problem, but I haven't got the enthusiasm to stand on that station with so little freight trains to film at night anymore. In years gone by there was one word to describe that station at night and that was "fantastic" but the last two videos I've done there its been very slow. But thank you Kevin for watching my video, the last video I did there was on the 11/12/2019, If you can't find it I will send you a link. Cheers Mike.

Cheers to you Paul, and I'm pleased you came across the video. Mike.

That is a great story Julian, did you have a ticket check on your return.
@@antman09ful1 I went and sought out the train guard as soon as we left. He laughed his socks off and squared it up for me to get back to Brum....
I don’t know how much longer the 86’s will continue but I love the sound of them . Every day is a bonus .
I feel the same about the starting up sound but I do remember article I read saying Freightliner have long term plans for them Kenneth.
Hi Mike watched both Carlisle videos and really enjoyed. The convoy was a real mixture and nice to see.
Yes David that convoy was a nice bonus for me on the night, it was running about 50 mins late which wasn't a problem as I wasn't going anywhere. Cheers Mike.

Class 86s powering up and down, particularly at night, is a very evocative sound.
Great to see then pulling there weight for the freightliner company Andrei. Cheers Mike.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much for watching my video mate.
Some very nice nocturnal action there Mike. It may not be as busy as in the past, but still a decent evening spell and lots of Class 86's to enjoy - in fact plenty of electric freight traction unlike the southern WCML!
I must admit Darren I have a soft spot for the Class 86s as they were the first electric loco I saw when I started spotting.
The first 66 was pulling a hefty load. Amazing how many 86's passed through. And have to say thats an unexpected video. Must have been cold. Thanks for sharing.

Great video, decent variety & plenty of 86’s. I remember doing a few all night sessions there myself 30 years ago. I hope you gave that guy a mouthful :-)
I bet you can see the difference from when you went 30 years ago Paul.
Excellent video. Some really nice long trains there, plus the convoy. Even competing with Keith (smilevideotrains) for best continuity shots, with the 66 overtaking the two 86's :)
Cheers Malcolm for your comment, all I will say that there is only one Keith Smiles etc.
Great video. Good to see there is still a fair amount of freight activity going on at night.
Its OK Alan for this day and age, but crap compared to what it used to be like. Regards Mike.
2:19 nice catch of all those locomotives coupled together!
4:08 nice to see some freightliner electric locos!
11:23 So I guess freightliner uses their electric locos more than I thought!
12:58 nice catch of a full EWS livery class 90
25:07 nice catch of a special ivery GBRF loco!
27:19 nice catch of a class 90 still in gray!
Cheers for your comment on this video, I'm pleased you have enjoyed my late night there seeing many class 86s. Regards Mike.

That's great mate.
Great handover between the MD and CL drivers on 4M11 - keeping those trucks off the roads 😊
Totally agree Jon, thanks for watching my video. Regards Mike.
Well done Antman, once again. It is as it always is: the night shift for intermodal and aggregates traffic, when the main lines are free of passenger traffic. the the game in Germnay !

Cheers Kyle for your view. Regards Mike.
Excellent footage Mike. I need to come to this place sometime
It was ok but I understand Preston is a bit better If you want to stop all night,
I’ve heard otherwise to be honest but they’re possibly both worth a visit
Also Mike I got the surprise of my life when some 86s appeared at Tamworth this morning. It’s on my channel if you ever wanted to see it
Oh right Luke.
Yes that's very good getting 86 in the day light, will have a look Luke.

Matthew, cheers for this comment which covered some interesting facts. I can't tell you on YT what I said to that prick.
Greay convoy and nice variety of workings
Keith it was something I like to do now and again.
I was a fireman at kingmoor carlisle we worked the very first frieght liner called the condor from glasgow then on to heandon london at the beging it was hualed by two class 5s then later by a sulzer dieziel the two class 5s were changed at carlisle on the run to london we stayed in the railway hostel at crickelwood then next eve back to carlisle we became the first 100 pound a week railway men
This is a great story about your days working on the railways, you must have felt you was a rich money Tom, thanks for your interest in my video.
Hi would it possible do an up to date video for carlisle station same times 2021
Kevin I would like to, the distance of being two hundred miles away is not a problem, but I haven't got the enthusiasm to stand on that station with so little freight trains to film at night anymore.
