  • Yu-Gi-Oh has a myriad of banned cards and the list is ever-changing (though not enough some might add). Here on this new installment, we discuss whether or not we should unban some of Yu-Gi-Oh's most problematic cards!
Back at it again, with another Banhammer. Adam and Leoni discuss with our host Carl, the possibility of letting a specific orchestra scary friend off the ban list....

1:48 Orcust's OCG name is Orphegel (pronounced Or-phe-gore).
Orphegel comes from Orpheus, the greek musician, Belphegor the demon, and Orgel, which is another word for a music box. Orpheus is from a greek legend where Orpheus descends into the underworld to revived a loved on (Eurydice). Belphegor in the original mythology seduces humans suggesting inventions that will make them rich. Girsu's journey to revive Ib mirrors Orpheus's journey to revive Eurydice. In Girsu's journey he created many machines to figure out a correct prototype to house Ib's soul, which lead to the creation of a lot of demonic looking machines, alluding to Belphegor luring humans to sin with the gift of knowledge. Orgel fits the overall musical motifs of the world legacy archetypes that appear in the middle-ish portion of the story, as well as the monster's appearances as mechnical devilish instruments.
Orcust Harp Horror's OCG name is Orphegel Diver. Diver (pronounced dee-ver) comes from Divertimento, a musical genre.
Orcust is not just orchestra. It also alludes to Orcus, the god of the underworld.

And to this day, when several cards of these archetypes have come back, the hits on Endymion remain firmly in place. It's 2022 and TCG remains deathly afraid of pendulum decks for some reason. lol

@@zurreal8087 It isn't. Not since 2018 at least.
MR3 might've been a mistake, but that's been corrected a long time ago. And pendulum decks fell by the wayside the moment handtraps and 1 card combos became widespread.
It's not even a meta question anymore. Handtraps are found in all levels of play nowadays, from big tournaments to 10 bucks structure decks a new player buys from the store. And the vast majority of new archetypes, strong or not, are way faster now that anything the game had 2~3 years ago. The powercreep is real.
I'm not saying a pendulum deck ain't gonna be meta or strong or disruptive in the future. I'm saying the way the mechanic is with the support that it has now, it's heavy, slow and completely antithetical to the path the game took in the past few years.
But you don't have to believe me. Make an Endymion decklist with Servant at 3 and Electrumite limited and try to play with your friends. Odds are you'll still lose even if they're not playing anything close to meta.
Try to put more than 6 handtraps/techs in it and see how much your consistency will drop.

@@enterprebirb7465 pendulum decks just need better card design. More utility and less underwhelming effects or restrictions placed such as "You cannot pendulum summon except x archetype" Pendulum cards inherently should be more powerful from a mechanic standpoint, but the reason they suck is because konami doesn't design any good cards that take advantage of their 2 text boxes one as a monster and the other for pendulum. Also pendulum archetypes have to jump through hoops just to search a +1 whereas non-pendulum decks do a lot more with less. So the mechanic is actually OP, but card design is very weak.
We see this principle play out when konami decides to break game mechanics for new archetypes all the time. Drytrons using atk for ritual summoning, flunders getting extra normals, and fusion decks fusing from deck, etc. They should throw pendulum decks a bone. If they slap the same type of effs on pendulum decks that they do for non-pendulum decks they will be competitive and game breaking, they don't even need to give pendulums cheating effs that circumvent their mechanic. Every meta contender has multiple ways of setting up their gy or spamming multiple searches, contrast that with pendulum archetypes. How many ways do they search or get setup easily?

there are some things with Harp I want players to consider, for starters Harp enables much easier combo lines into Rusty, since to still end on skeleton to being back ding with rusty all you need is that additional extender, plus Harp in tandem with return gets you 2 new random cards 2 bodies with girsu and another machine in gy, so even in the normal combo not involving rusty you get so much tempo that it’s hard to combat going first or second, assuming your cards resolve. Now some might argue that your cards would never resolve since a lot of people maindeck interaction unlike in Toss format where it was standard for 6 ht unlike today where 12 ht is considered more standard (and yes I know this format many are using board breakers). But it is important to consider that Orcust has really solid synergy with Tearlaments who are all dark, mill and pitch cards, and add extra bodies to your plays. In these sort of list it is easy to imagine boards with apollousa, Redoer, Keliedo-heart, I:P for unicorn, Dingirsu, and maybe even snow, so as a combo strategy its a deck with a very high floor and a very high ceiling, so potent that if harp was put at 3 I could imagine genuine widespread adaptation in the metagame.
With that said at 1 Harp would unlikely be able to properly abuse the mechanics of Tearaments. Also The deck would not have much advantage over existing Tear builds that include the spright monsters, or with E tele, and especially not over the ishizu support coming in a couple months.
All in All Harp Horror DESERVES to come back as a non-generic play extender, and by extension I think a lot of the not game breaking cards on the banlist should too simply because it has been almost 3 years, where Players of those archetypes have had to suffer losing simply because their deck is restricted while newer strategies are not, Where the game has power crept significantly (ht that do nothing like Phantazmay see virtually no play anymore) And after 3 years of players finding new strategies to enjoy it is unlikely any of these strategies will ever compete for the top deck slot again

So the whole tear discussion got me thinking about how you would run the orcust engine in the deck. The main thing I think that should be considered is that 3 Nightmare in the deck is just 3 extra copies of harp. Send nightmare then send harp would be a legitimate combo starter even if harp is at 1. From there you just do the full orcust combo everyone knows and loves. I’m NOT saying that harp SHOULDN’T come back, but rather limiting it to 1 is the proper first step due to how good even just 1 copy of it is for the combo of said splash ability in decks like tear.

There is a split on TCG/OCG on how they hit Orcust.
OCG limited Galatea and Girsu (I think harp was also limited at one point), TCG banned Harp.
Its also important when discussing Orcust cards like Harp and the others to talk about the field spell Orcustrated Babel. This effectively allows you to double dip on Orcust effects(by using them on your opponents turn instead of just yours) and is the primary point to consider between limit or 3, because if its limited it takes work to double dip while if its at 3 double dipping becomes very easy. A large aspect of the Orcust deck/strategy is banishing cards for useful effects and then shuffling those banished cards back into your deck or attaching banished cards to your Dingirsu as material and similar to recycle them.
Harp can come back to 1 no problems, Orcust really isn't the monstrosity it was 2+ years ago. Though taking Harp beyond 1 would likely require looking into potentially limiting Girsu or similar in exchange. The big problem with multiples is when you talk about huge decks designed to just dump tons of cards into the graveyard, this is an area where an Orcust engine in theory becomes strong with many copies.

Tearlament are already the best deck currently in the TCG. Unbanning harp horror means that they have an e-tele that they can potentially mill when they're already milling 10+ cards a turn. This is not mentioning girsu or knightmare which are only more copies of harp horror. Harp horror not only represents at least 2 extenders (as you can get cymbal skeleton or knightmare which gets world wand) but also represents an omni-negate counter trap in crescendo which you would easily be able to get through galatea. The Phantom knight link three is also a consideration as it can be made with galatea and any dark and represents another 2 interrupts in the form of double fogblade/fogblade + a redoer with a shade brigandine under it (redoer also triggers tearlaments reinoheart/scheiren.) Harp in GY + any 2 monsters (only one of which has to be dark (dangers, dark worlds, destrudo, gizmek orochi, sprights etc)) would be crescendo double fog blade, which would only propel an already tier 1 (borderline tier 0 with future support) deck in tearlaments to even greater heights. As much as I love orcust and harp specifically, I don't know if it can come back - it is incredibly easy to abuse.

I just have one thing to say: UNBARP THE HARP.
…To continue on that train of thought. I played a little during TOSS, so I can confidently say: Salamangreat and Orcust during that time period were not, IMO, problem decks. They were good decks, but they never felt broken or insurmountable. Both were basically resource engines that could get their stuff back very easily and make comebacks from what seemed like terrible positions, like Despia was last format. But an Orcust endboard is a lot more targeted than a Despia endboard. Orcust seems to focus on non-targeting, non-destruction single card removal, with a spin on Knightmare Unicorn and Dingirsu to non-targeting send a card. This was killer against Striker or Thunder Dragon, which had a lot of power in one card, but is less effective against modern decks with multiple threats on board like Spright. Meanwhile, Despia employs a lot more boardwipes, which are better in the current format of many little threats. Despia is also nearly immune to Nibiru unless the player horrifically overextends, whereas Orcust is severely hindered by it with its most critical monsters being killed quite thoroughly by smashy rock. Just about the only thing Orcust has going is Crescendo negate, which requires you leave Galatea or Longirsu open on your board to potentially be punched over. Not to mention their effects only become quick under Orcustrated Babel, and we know how the current format is about field spell hate. I mean c’mon, how are you not prepared for Babel in this day and age?

Sorry to say, harp would be okay at one what made orcust so powerful is that it was splashable in so many decks you had lunalight orcust, orcust pure, trickstar orcust, and the cause of it was orcust harp horror but when we got orcust knightmare it took the deck to a whole different level it was splashable in every deck due to knightmare mermaid it would special summon the orcust knightmare dump harp and go into full orcust combos with the fact that tearlaments is the top deck well one of the top decks in the format right now they would take full advantage of it causing them to conduct numerous plays and be a powerful link fusion deck allowing them to get Galatea set crescendo which is a Omni negate if you control a orcust link monster. Harp at one should be fine but three or even two might be to much of a consistency and would make it get rehit or limited or even the rest of the cards used would get hit

I think most of the toss decks are totally fine to come back, with naube the exception of thunder dragon only because colossus is so low investment. Orcust was very splahable, but that was due to knightmare mermaid, not harp, though harp is good. That said, the deck is currently very bad, being a 1 card for one omni but requiring tons of space to use and locking you into dark, which isn't a huge deal, but is a bit of a problem. Orcust tear would be interesting, but I'm not sold that it'd be good since rears shuffle back from grave, and orcust need to banish for cost.

As a DM Player, I think it would be very interesting to hear the opinions of Adam and Leonie on Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon, especially with Verte recently being banned, and Red-Eyes Fusion, the Card you usually use to bring out Dragoon, having some pretty hefty restrictions, as well as the absolute Garnets/Bricks you would have to play to access Dragoon in a non-DM/Red-Eyes-Deck.
Contrasted with f.e. the DPE-Engine which neither has restrictions this harsh, nor Monsters that Brick hands this hard, since at least one of them is usually summoneable, and depending on which cards you use you can generate some additional Advantage (Malicious, Denier, Celestial etc.), which is not possible with two high Level Vanillas.
My Eye of Timaeus is still a good card because Dark Magician the Dragon Knight is a competent Boss Monster for DM, but I think having a Negate that isn't as hard to access as fricking Combination would be very nice.
Oh, and very nice series overall. I know I wrote a whole essay, but I really wanted to say I enjoy this series, and I hope it keeps on coming out.

I feel like duo wouldn't really do enough at 1, especially if you are throwing something into the GY, it's just an added benefit for later, might even hurt your own deck's consistency. I still think confi and sentry can't come back exclusively because of the hand knowledge though.
Mirage may also potentially be too slow as you might be disrupted on your opponents draw phase, though I can easily see Mirage staying banned for safety reasons.

hand looping your opp for 2 essentially for free without needing to set that up is too much for just 1 card effect. You gotta work for it through comboing at least with mermails and their moulinglacia combo. Using delinquent duo would just act as a way to snipe more hand traps out of your opps hand, making combo decks that much stronger. It would be a better version of called by the grave and talents at that point, since you would snipe cards out of their hand BEFORE your opp has the chance to hand trap you.

    • @chimpmasterflex
      @chimpmasterflex ปีที่แล้ว

@@Raz0rIG That's assuming it's opened as a turn 1 player though. I think genuinely past that it's super dead. Like is it strong? Yes, but broken, I'm not completely sold on yet. Even as turn 1 player it's 1 less card to pop off with, and who is to say they won't still have hand traps. Sure 1 is random, 2nd is choice. they could still potentially just cut off your turn depending on deck etc. I'm not like a super meta expert or anything, but just how I see it.

    • @Raz0rIG
      @Raz0rIG ปีที่แล้ว

@@chimpmasterflex I hope you don't take this the wrong way but every competitive player recognizes a hand loop eff is VERY good. it's not 1 less card to pop off with as a turn 1 combo player, it's an insurance card to make sure your combo goes through. Most combo decks these days only need their 1 starter or 2 to go off. So the rest of the 5 card opening hand is just utility cards like called by the grave, board breakers, or hand traps. Giving combo decks a better version of called by the grave would make them too imbalanced in their favor.

I fell like a lot of cards in the banlist are there as a place marker in YG history. They are on there not because of the threat they pose but their overlong status at the top. The dragon rulers are a good example all of them could come back tomorrow and not see any play but they were meta for so long they will stay on the banlist. Orcust was one third of the eternal format arguably the strongest member of it. So I’ll be surprised if they bring it back any time soon even if the card itself isn’t that powerful by todays standards

Even at the time of this video POTE powercrept most previous strategies.
Tear most likely wouldn't need to play it since it be a little out of the way. They rather mill a Tear name or an Ishizu. There's a reason why they took out shaddolls and Dangers. You'll see it once Tear gets hit. As of now and possibly the next format, good luck in resolving any orcust effect once it gets banished or shuffled back into the deck.
