I've been a Johnny Horton fan since about 1980,and I knew that some how he had to have something spiritual going on to have had that kind of success so early in life and to be so beloved by so many people.Maybe that's why he worked to make it all happen so soon because he knew his time on earth would be short.Rest in peace and thank you for the legacy of your great music, Johnny, and thank you Tom Page for the upload of this interview

I met Merle Kilgore who was managing HWjr and got a chance to chat with him backstage during a Hank Williams Jr and Charlie Daniels concert in Waco, Tx. Merle was a very nice man who didn't know me from Adam...but we had a nice talk. It was there that I had learned that he wrote Wolverton mtn and Ring of Fire....I was impressed...he went on to say that he ran in the same circles as Cash, Perkins, Elvis, Jerry Lee and knew them all when they were performing through out the south...before their national fame. I told him that I heard of all of these guys, but not him...why was that? He said because he didn't make the deal....I asked him What deal? He said the deal with the devil... I said The Devil..? He was serious as a heart attack when he said; "Yes sir"....Intrigued I asked him when and where and what was the deal...He said it was in a hotel room somewhere in Arkansas...He was approached with the deal for fame and that he had turned it down....We didn't get to chat further because it was Hank's turn for his show. True story....at least that is what Merle told me. Either he is a good actor...or he was telling the truth....if it was untrue...he had me fooled.

Merle was a notorious trickster & delightful B.S artist.

Many artists have admitted to selling their souls for fortune and fame. Bob Dylan, Katy Perry, JZ, the list goes on. I believe Merle told you the stone cold truth. Jesus told us about this when Jesus was led into the desert after fasting forty days and satan offered him the world if Jesus would worship him and Jesus refused. No doubt in my mind.

He was a drug head back in the day. Who do you think got Bocephus started out partying when he was still a young kid? He didnt make a deal with the devil, yet he spent years drugging, drinking, and womanizing? Sounds like he made some kind of deal with the devil!

Johnny Horton was married to Hanks wife Billie Jean and they both played there last show at the same place and she kissed them goodbye in the same spot before they bother died. I read that years ago but forgot it until it was on TV last week. Some strange things in this old world.

Eerie story, but I remember seeing this interview on television back in the 1990's. I bought the box set of 4 CD's that Bear Family records put out in 1996= Johnny Horton 1956- 1960, and included in this set is a large biographical book that details all of this. Johnny had believed in Edgar Cayce's writings and often solicited the advice of Bernard Ricks. Many of Horton's friends took part in his seances, and eventually all of them had some type of contact with Johnny in that last week-- as well as some years after his death. If you are a fan, I hope you get to read this book.

Johnny cash locked himself in the bathroom because Horton died he didn’t forgive himself for not taking that call when Horton tried to call. It actually effected cash quite a bit from what I hear

Horton lived in Gallatin Tex as a young man , my mother was also from there. She told me that Horton played & sang at her 16th birthday. She her father , contacted Horton to come play , apparently he was a hometown rage....

The great Johnny Cochran had the same preminition about being killed.
He died in England in a cab racing too fast to the airport after a tour w/Gene Vincent & the Blue Caps.

Johnny did not know a drunk man would cause a car wreck. He did have a premonition about being killed by a drunk. He thought maybe getting shot. Johnny also did not have a premonition about the timing. He was talking to my father when he died. He was in hurry to get back and to go duck hunting with claude king. Johnny did not visit friends and tell them he would die that week.
I loved merle but I don't believe this at all

Watson Franks I believe you BECAUSE Merle Kilgore had told this story about 3 times in interviews I saw & tidbits of the story changed throughout the years. In one interview Kilgore himself hears the "drummer is a rummer" phrase on the radio, then other accounts he reads it in a letter. Kilgore was a success in his own right so not sure why he'd make up BS but John Lennon who was clearly a huge success also would make up stories. There are successful people who lie it's just not as common as losers who lie.

Merle and daddy were best friends for many years. I think daddy knew far more about Johnny's death seeing as he was sitting beside him when he died

    • @watpics
      @watpics 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@bakersgirl2012 daddy knew the truth. Johnny thought he would be killed by a drunk. But he thought most likely shot. He also did not think it would happen that night. He was excited about going back to Shreveport to hunt with claude king the next day.
Daddy taught merle the business. But merle is stretching the truth here.

I don't believe it either for the simple reason. seances delve with the underworld and not the spiritual world.

This is sad. The background music was completely unnecessary. It was a nightmare. I loved Johnny Horton’s music. I would like to think of all the country western singers of that era as good Christians. If this whole story is true, it means Johnny Horton was not a Holy Bible reading, loving Christian. We are not to send messages to and from the dead or hold seances. This is strictly forbidden for Christians. Read your Holy Bible , believe, and do what it says. Then, your life will be blessed, and you will go to Heaven and be rewarded.
