Looking back this game was pretty good. It had everything you could expect from a Yoshi's Island sequel and it had some new ideas like the Stork Stop feature that allows you to use other characters to help the Yoshi's through the levels with their own abilities. It wasn't as good as the original Yoshi's Island but it is miles better then New Island.
Man, Bowser was a _lot_ scarier when he couldn't talk and had roars. On the other hand, this battle is pretty easy alone. Winning it with a 100% is a whole different story.
Look up the japanese version it actually adds a lot more to the music making it a better final boss theme and I think in later revisions of the american versions they released it with the Japanese final boss theme.
I think this game was made in sort of Bowser's perspective in a present tense. You see Bowser (the adult Bowser) wanted to rule the universe using mystical stars that belong to Star Children. These are baby versions of the main characters (Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Wario, Donkey Kong, Peach, and even Bowser himself as a baby was a Star Child). Bowser went into the past to seek the Star Children and had his minions start capturing babies from around the Mushroom Kingdom in hopes he finds the seven Star Children. What he didn't expect though was the Yoshis would retaliate due to Baby Luigi missing again and they foiled his plans. Bowser and Kamek escape presumably returning to their own timeline in utter defeat thus the Yoshis of the past era actually saved the past, present and future by foiling Bowser's plot of universal domination.
I think this game is pretty good, it's very difficult to 100% complete it, but as many has said, the music, altough no that bad, is not as great and memorable as the first yoshi's island music was.
I saw the image elements of Super Princess Peach (2005/2006) and Wario: MoD (2005/2006/2007), and graphics look closer to Dora the Explorer episodes. In my opinion, Yoshi's Island DS (2005/2006) is one of Nintendo's three Super Mario games with Nickelodeon's Dora the Explorer pixel graphics. Other being Super Princess Peach (2005/2006) and Wario: Master of Disguise (2005/2006/2007).
@8688251547 : He's searching for the seven Star Children. Around that time period, seven stars fell on the world and each one entered a baby's heart, so Bowser went to the past and kidnapped all babies of the world, to search which ones were Star Children. With all seven stars, he could have enough power to take over the world. We learn the Star Children are now Mario, Luigi, Peach, Wario, DK, Yoshi and ironically Bowser.
Alright guys, we are making a re-do of Yoshi's Island. First of all, what should the final boss be? Are you guys serious? BABY BOWSER! Hmmm........ yeah, let's put Baby Bowser in there with the Bowser fight. Wait, WHAT?! Yeah, let's have a minor Baby Bowser fight, then Bowser bursts in the castle, then becomes huge, and tries to attack them. We've overdone it with Huge Bowser, let's just use Big Baby Bowser. Nah, Giant Bowser is a better idea. And 'twas the creation of this monstrosity.
Great logic you have there. If I hated it, why did I look it up? I looked it up because I didn't know about it and wanted to see. After I looked it up I realized I hated it and said that very clearly, and apparently a lot of people agree with my assessment of the damage.
@gobershi7298 : It's made by ARTOON and licensed by NINTENDO. All games released on Nintendo consoles have "Nintendo" appearing at the start of the game. Nintendo asked Artoon to make this game and licensed it. It's still made by Artoon - who's NOT part of Nintendo.
The mechanics, the music, the graphics, so much has changed from the SNES to the DS, and not for the better. The original had a silly and playful mini boss music to fit those bosses, a fast-paced climactic theme for level bosses, and a metal/rock theme for Big Baby Bowser to match the scenery and falling rocks. The graphics might not have been that good in SNES for BBB but atleast it gave the fight an epic feeling. The mechanics for YIDS, Baby Bowser= lv 1 mini boss, Bowser = lv 4 Koopa boss...
If Bowser's plot was to obtain the seven stars that were in the possession of the Star Children, why doesn't he do that every game? Dialog earlier in the game implies they possess incredible power from these stars (which could be having the stars in their possession), but Bowser only goes after it this one time? It must be power that continues to dissipate the longer it's fallen from the sky. You'd assume if the power was infinite, Bowser would try to take it often. Guess it's not.
@togekisstornado nothing. he transforms in certain levels to help, but otherwise you need to keep him on Yoshi. His presence on Yoshi is to make the game challenging.
Generally speaking, I found Yoshi's Island DS to be more difficult than the original, but the original was way more fun and far more memorable. Especially if we're talking about the games' music.
Ok, I don't want Yoshi to be in a storybook now. I don't want Baby Bowser to be able to talk like he is a polite gentleman! I don't want Adult Bowser interfering with the story, and I don't give a %^$# if the other Mario characters are in it!
@sskorpiana it was developed by Artoon and published by nintendo. i loved the shit out of the original and i still love it today.. i got this game hoping for more glorious perfect level design and platforming. i was horribly disappointed. the levels are purposely designed so you have to go through them mutable times with different babies, most of which you have to unlock, the backgrounds are repeated to a ridiculous level, and the music is balls.
Umm, is everyone forgetting that Yoshi's Island GBA is actually Super Mario World 2, I dont see people whining about the difference! Anyway Super Mario World Kicks Ass
@dak3089 Yeah, the whole last world is absurdly difficult. Even if you aren't trying to get 100% it can be pretty ridiculous. The rest of the game though, is far too easy.
@hellmo64 i hear you the first yoshis island has good music and is totally awesome i still own the original copy for the snes and i'll play it over this anyday
Because they compare it to the original rather then look at the game itself and be happy with it. It's not as good as Yoshi's Island 1 but this game is still good and miles better then Topsy Turvy.
this game was made in paint
So was the first one

They were ok, far from amazing.
Overall, an ok final boss, but compared to the original, sucks hard.
Man, Bowser was a _lot_ scarier when he couldn't talk and had roars. On the other hand, this battle is pretty easy alone. Winning it with a 100% is a whole different story.
Kinda
wow you'd think they'd try to give the boss more impact considering the original...
1:02 "How dare you treat past-me like that?"
Shall I remember you Bowser that you kicked your younger self outta the castle?
Terrible music for a boss battle.
Look up the japanese version it actually adds a lot more to the music making it a better final boss theme and I think in later revisions of the american versions they released it with the Japanese final boss theme.
the japanese version was *so* much better

How is this terrible lol

Yoshi in the GBA version is voiced also, but the music and the levels remains the same as the SNES version has.
How come the present Bowser came? What is this Partners in Time?
Now search for yoshi's new island final boss and you'll be happier (sarcasm)
pfft... the last boss on that game is pathetic.
francisjairam I feel like this is a Partners in Time prequel lol
TheGael95 actually this is a sequel because baby bowser and bowser knew themselfes from the beggining, in PiT they met for the first time
Bleh, the music is so jarring for the final boss...
Bleh what are you count bleck
this game was awesome for me to play I don't see the problem with the game so stop hating

Am the only one who actually enjoyed the final boss in this game?
No i love it
1:08 intro bowser >:)
1:33 Bowser scream
2:27 Intro Giant bowser and roars again
4:06 Giant Bowser Again
0:53 Cody is mad at Yoshi for hurting Junior.
Sml trash
I can't believe I lost this game. It's a great sequel to a great game. I hope I find it sometime...
4:06 the gisnt bowser scream again
I love bowser in here, because he actually fights in here instead of walking around.
The game wasn't that bad. Sure, the final boss wasn't as epic as the SNES one, but the rest of the game still had the Yoshi's Island feel to it.

The fact Adult and Baby Bowser are both present in this game probably it happens at some time before or after Partners in Time...
@darkbowserxx ... SMW 2 (aka Yoshi's Island) was on the SNES... Just wanted you to know that.
Probably the first time in a Yoshi game that the original Bowser himself makes an appearance as the final boss.

garbage is the only word for this

so, did Bowser find a time machine or what?
What an entrance by Bowser...
It's really difficult to take Bowser seriously, anymore.
How did they change it so much? All they did was add a few new secret levels and gave yoshi a voice. It didn't affect the gameplay at all.
Oh no Bowser.
Yoshi and Baby Mario so cute! *-*
love the music
2:11 That T-bag though XD
How is this a "watered-down version"? There is much more to this game. Its really good
I know it's single player, but it looks like multi-player. I cannot fathom how that works (never played it yet).

@ThyranG If you look closely Piantasmo II (The guy you rce in SM sunshine) is black, you just have to look under the costume.
The description doesn't lie.
Generally speaking, I found Yoshi's Island DS to be more difficult than the original, but the original was way more fun and far more memorable. Especially if we're talking about the games' music.
could the eggs for phase 3 come out any slower? i mean da gum it's amazing how long ya gotta wait if you screw up!
Yoshi's Return To Yoshi's Island
when that black dark scary looking koopa ran towards me i was actually terrfied in the orignal
GBA- The days it was cool
DS- The days I missed Bowser throwing big eggs I didn't even know Yoshi can lay
@kotlolish
Baby DK isn't the only one. Babies Wario and Bowser hinder it somewhat also but not as badly.
Bowser.... you destroyed part of your castle
Yoshi's Island DS

@Towerofhera OHHHHHH ok, i thought it was a remake. Thank you for clearing that up
BOWSER?! How on earth did you get to the past without a time portal like that? Hay Mr.Myamoto I have something to tell ya(NO MORE SURPRISES)!!!
I know this is 7 years ago but myamoto didnt make this
I think bowser himself was fine, could be better if the music was spicier.
It's not about growing up, it's about not making this boss as scary as the original Yoshi's Island's.
I think they wanted to add more variety to the gameplay while adding an extra gimmick for consumers to eat up.
DS had smart phone ratio before smart phones existed!
Why in all yoshis island games is Luigi getting kidnapped why can't it be Mario getting captured sometimes.
After playing both games, either I don't see what's so bad about this one, or I don't see what's so good about the original.
i think baby wario was after your treasure, baby bowser.
WOW i thot new island did the future bowser thing D:< now im ticked
I find it funny how baby wario has a mustache...
1:09,2:28,5:51 is the same Roar from New Super Mario Bros
Well, I think they're both good.
@darkbowserxx Implying that there's a NES version and that this game is good.
I liked this final battle. Bowser was hard but me, Yoshi and Baby DK took him to the clears.
T__T So Baby Bowser is more Epic then Normal Bowser how sad i remember actually feeling kind of creeped out with baby bowser.
I don't understand how is that big bowser came to the babie's time, or why?
This game is fun but I like the graphics and soundtrack wayyyyyyyyyy better in yoshis island 1 for GBA and snes.
I really thought Bowser would get much bigger than what he did.
Saved The Day ONCE AGAIN? So this was supposed to be Yoshi's Island 2?
Lol: Baby Bowser is Bowser of the past, Bowser Jr is bowsers son :)
I freaking sucked at the Giant Bowser part too.
MeiReiNeko
Which is why I muted the video and played 'Big Boss' from the first game. :D
New super Mario bros. 2 Bowser phase 2... This game reference bowser in the background
Roars again bowser
I always brought Baby DK as the baby to fight Bowser.

Lol, in the end Kamek lied hardly couse he is came from future and he knows Mario never failed to bowser.
@hellmo64 i hear you the first yoshis island has good music and is totally awesome i still own the original copy for the snes and i'll play it over this anyday
it will be cool if you beat the game and you get to use luigi and he have a different ability like the others.
Wait, Could you ever use Baby Luigi or was that just a Cliff Hanger / Joke by Nintendo
Because inthe Original Yoshi's Island you COULD use Baby Luigi
And baby Bowser become: Bowser Jr
Yes, giga bowser is f***** hard, I suck too to kill him, but the 1st and 2nd end bosses was too easy, I wasn't touch when I did them...
I love this boss with the 4 yoshis :D
5-8 at last bowser's CASTLE !
I have that game and I beat it. I have to admit, it was pretty hard. And my best score on 5-8 was 87. :O
ow come these games be so cute but AS HARD AS HECK.
Best music evr :D
