  • Whilst not having experienced any problems with the supplied adapter cable with my RTX4090 Graphics Card, I decided to replace it with the new Corsair PCIe 5.0 cable. In this video I tell you why.

      @Simhanger Flight Simulation I was wondering, with the case you are currently using, will the glass panel go on without any major bending near the cable port (Nvidia native). I don`t really care about the aesthetics, and I have heard people having issues with drawing power trough the Corsair cable. I haven`t bought a case yet, but the two i am considering is ASUS TUF (the one you have) or Lian Iii air mini (which i know the side panel won’t fit

      since the Corsair cable was not available when i looked for it, I went for the Cablemod version which I configured in length, color and quality. I am VERY happy with this choice. The Nvidia Dongle worked fine but it was too ugly to look at...

    I managed to get the Corsair cable in Oz last week. I also have an Asus TUF 4090 and the new cable works a treat with my Corsair RM850X PSU (which Hardware Unboxed used for all their benchmarks on the 4090 with no problems). I'll likely upgrade my PSU next year though, when I also upgrade from a 5800X3D to the 3D cache version of the Ryzen 7000 series CPUs.

      @@George-um2vc I have a gigabyte aorus master which is the biggest one. The tuf is smaller and should fit fine. My cable isn't bent sharply but it does touch the glass. I had no issues with the 4 to 1 adapter and GamersNexus has put the 'burnt connector' non-issue to bed. Us mere mortals can't get hold of the Corsair cable yet so I bought a "Fasgear PCIe 5.0 GPU Power Cable" from Amazon UK for my Corsair AX1600i PSU. It is a heavy gauge cable and allows a tight safe bend, plus it terminates in 3 PSU plugs. All connections are crimped. Works very well and tested with a thermistor attached to make sure.

To be 100% safe I got a written reply from my gpu retailer, confirming that if I bought an atx 3.0 power supply from them I would be safe in terms of returns and warrenty in the event of a connection meltdown.

    The NVIDIA cable has an IC which detects how many of the 4 8-pin connectors are connected to the PSU. Does the Corsair cable has this IC? When you use the corsair cable which only has 2 8pins connectors to the PSU, does this limit the power to 300W (150W * 2)?

    I mean, how bloody hard is it for these cable manufacturers to have a standard 90deg 12VHPWR connector head ? You'd think it was rocket science or something but EVERY cable needs a tight radius bend to turn the cable either up/down dependant on routing. GPUs all suffer from a p[oor placement of their connectors towards the cases side panel. This is BASIC logistics as the cable has to route a between 90-180 deg back to the PSU (dependant on case design). So give us a damned 90deg head as standard to solve this stupidity.

      No not undervolted, still capable of 600w. That is why they specify what type of power supply PSU that is compatible…fully modular etc. so power draw remains as required by Nvidia

      Most older power supplies can output 150v per port max. 150 x 4 = 600v. That is why I say check your PSU. Mine can output 300v per port so twin cable fine. (Most PSU can actually do 300 per port by the way). It is a bit more complicated than what I have said, but you get the principle I’m sure 👍

    Hope it works for you. I see Corsair 'guarantees' compatibility. I must be blind, I cannot see the needed 16-pin connector port on the Corsair psu in the photo in your video (?). Note: Not all PSUs have a strong enough 12volt rail to deliver 600 watts dedicated on that rail just for the graphics card. Given the 4090 is about $2000 USD ($1700 MSRP), spending another $350 on a 1300 -watt ATX 3.0 / PCI 5 PSU that DOES have a very strong 12-volt rail for graphics probably beats going $20 for a cable that 'might' work... just sayin'...

    • @SimHangerFS
      @SimHangerFS  ปีที่แล้ว

      The connection on the PSU side is 2 x standard 8 pin connections. Even the new PCIe PSU’s have this.

    •  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SimHangerFS What I don't understand with this cable from Corsair is how it comes with 2 connectors on the PSU side. Meaning each port would have to deliver up to 300w. While at the same time people have been told when using the original adapter from Nvidia how they need to connect 4 SEPARATE cables to the adapter coming from 4 separate ports on the PSU side. As I recall it, you even got a warning note with the Nvidia adapter illustrating this.
      When I think of it, I guess the answer is the Corsair cable is certified for 300w per cable where the 4 cables on the Nvidia adapter aren't 🤔

    • @SimHangerFS
      @SimHangerFS  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @ hi, there are a number of different reasons, but primarily Nvidia are assuming absolute worst case scenario, they specify 4 cables assuming the PSU is underpowered and not fully modulated etc. The Corsair cable specs are very specific in terms of minimum specs, considerably higher than Nvidia have assumed etc. The cable itself is a whole different quality to the standard adapter.
