Apparently this has now become a paid tool at least for for mac users (still free on windows) - you can use dgb.lol/ as a free web based alternative
Guys, it may be free, but please consider donating a dollar or two (whatever you can afford) to the project. So many AI projects are charging buckets for very limited use of something that doesn't even work that well. This stuff is amazing, free, and is multi-platform.

I've been using Upscayl for a while and it does a great job upscaling art, and even better, this app doesn't eat all of your VRAM to do its job (you need like 20GB VRAM to upscale 8x 16x on SD). The only issues I have are it doesn't save on the chosen output folder (1st time works then it start saving on same original folder/random folders) and it's still glitchy with the zoom in been really slow.

For printing at what point would you define 300ppi? Before or after Upscayl?
what i like about this one is, it actually runs well on an AMD gpu. Not many AI based things do. And I don't recall it downloading gigs of stuff either. Still wondering how I get extra models for It.

What is the best option to upscale old photos? Watching the end comparison looks like real esrgan 16x is awesome but the file size is huge too..

can I achieve 300dpi to tshirt print with that software ? I´m lookin for something like that. Please, help me. It´s anoying do that on by one. Canva miss a feature like that to png. My print on demand service do not accept pdf.

This would be great if 2x and 3x worked 4x i don't want it makes the file size too big and if u use 2x the output is glitched i have to upscale then resize & batch upscale can only output png...

When I opened the software - Image scale was up to 4X - I only want my images to be 300 DPI - would 2X or 3X be ok for that? - I don't want my images to be bigger than they need to be.
So this only works with NVIDIA Vulkan computers? I have a NVIDIA Geo Force and it won't work. Fix?

obviously. Time depends by your CPU and GPU. If you have a fast computer is fast, if you use ad old PC is extremely low. ps I use it on an old PC , it's slow but very usefully. The software can process an entire folder, slowly but it does (when I sleep!)

What image viewer do you use to watch the photo in 16k? Don't think I can watch mine on "previewer" (The standard program on Mac) but I don't have Photoshop.
apparently u dont have to save the fill, it does it after scaling. finding the saved file can be a chore tho. Fantastic quality, actualy better than the original!!

your print provider should have the needed design dimensions in pixels listed for each product, just check under design info or similar

What is the image rights policy with this app ?
Hi Phillip so I have downloaded Upscayl and when I try to upscale in bulk it says there is a decoding error either due to the image being corrupt or issues with GPU or my driver. I have a MacBook Pro 2016. Any ideas whether my laptop is not compatible with the app? Says I have an Intel Iris Graphics 550 1536 MB. Thank you
Same issue on a Dell from a few years ago. I adjusted to high performance on the app in Windows but still get the same error on every mode. Oh well.

I do a design... Than I have to make my PNG to vector than I can set 300 dpi in photopea for example? Am I right on my POD way?
if you're turning it into a vector you can scale to any size in photopea and get 300dpi. Vectorizing works best for digital art, clipart type of designs. Photography doesn't look great if turned into vectors so an upscaler is best

Would give this a go if it wasn't so hard to get working. Tells me to turn off the ad blocker. I do that, refresh page. Still tells me to turn off ad blockers. Then I see there's extra instructions down below to make it work for Firefox that aren't very clear, etc, etc.

Doesn't work with Intel Iris Pro GPU on Mac.
DECODING ERROR => This image is possibly corrupt or not supported by Upscayl, or your GPU drivers are acting funny (Did you check if your GPU is compatible and drivers are alright?). You could try converting the image into another format and upscaling again. Also make sure that the output path is correct and you have the proper write permissions for the directory. If not, then unfortuantely there's not much we can do to help, sorry.
That double is neat but 16x from a 1k image is way too much. I would likely do a 4x then 2x of that which would give me a perfectly usable 8 or 9k pixels image vs a 16k pixels image. Heidi

have you tried a different file format? It could also be that your machine isn't good enough. That sometimes causes errors with upscayl
@@PhilipAnders yes I have tried quality jpg as well. My laptop has i5 (3edition) processor and 16gb Of Ram memory. Not sure is it enough?

I use it and I'm very glad I found it about a month ago. After first upgrade of Upscayl, the 2x and 3x upscaling does not work. It completely ruins the image. Still, 4x upscaling works great. The problem with 4x upscaling is that it sometimes create images larger than 25 MB which can not be imported to Canva, where I do following steps for tumbler wraps. I need to learn Photoshop :)
There is a small problem with upscaling of very detailed images. I just found today that one very detailed flowers image looked worse after upscaling. So I used another free upscaler for 2x upscale.
So is this the first step in editing the quality prior to resizing if your selling digital wall art

Yes you can either use an upscaler like this or a vectorizer
I do mostly bird photography and of course, sometimes you just can't get close enough and the bird is very small in the frame. Upscayl does a fantastic job with one minor exception. The images tend to be desaturated. This is easy enough to fix but it can be quite noticeable. Overall, I have found it to be better than Topaz Gigapixel, which have used for the last year or so. Gigapixel tends to oversharpen the output. Think I have found a new tool and thank you for your video.
Boy, I'd love to see your Upscayled photos, because my tests do not add any resolution at all. Topaz does a better job but it's not great either.
@@scottsimmons6814 Wish I could post pictures here. Just did one real quick. Small bird sitting on a wire. Cropped the original from 5184x3888 to 1019x1528. Only edit was denoise. Ran through Upscayl to blow up 4x. Raised shadows and gave is a bit more saturation and then dropped it to 2400x1600, which is the size I usually use when posting online. The first crop and the Uscayl version are almost identical to my old eyes.
