Well went back to DGB this morning and it's all screwed up. :( I had some files I set to upscale at around 2pm yesterday. It is around 6 am now and the files are gone. No more 24 hours and no more upscaling either apparently. The whole site is now only for converting from jpg to png, webp etc. I can do that with my graphics software on my computer. *sigh* If that is all the site is going to be then it has no use to me anymore. - Heidi
@@BlackCat_2 I think there was some issues yesterday with the site. That's definitely not all it is going to be, Tom has some super cool ideas still for the future like a free ai based bulk Mockup Generator
You can also do 16x, and you can even download custom open source models with different upscale algorithms depending upon what kind of content you are upscaling.
Great comparison, Philip. I have been using Upscayl for months now. Great results, good options, fast and totally free. Also has double upscale .. beats all the premium jerkers with 27 minute waiting times or only 4x or larger for a price.
I have Upscayl on my computer, but I am not fond of how my images are coming out. It takes the softness that I like in my images, that make them look like paintings, I know you can use different ones, inside of upscayl, but I don’t know what one to choose. 🫤
good video but I feel you're discrediting the ones where you didn't see any change because sometimes that is the goal. Meaning to not lose quality in the upscale version. changes are subjective. Some people might like the changes others might not. A good video would be comparing these free ones to paid ones such as giga pixel
Nice! I was using Adobe Express' background remover earlier today for some clip art, however, the results weren't right - the edges were not feathered correctly, and showed white where it should have been black. I (yet again) I had to do it manually in another editor. However, I just tried Pixelcut and the result very good! Thank you! :)
excellent tutorial. Thanks for sharing! yeah i believe that too, Upscayl is the winner here! You haven't noticed the red shape on the left, that upscayl has brought it back! 10:05
Could you make a video explaining print area pix , dpi , resolutions for T-shirt’s mugs ornaments wall arts gives by printify and how to download canva and than hello custom . Thanks
I came to this video from your video about removing backgrounds, so which of these will upscale with a transparent background? I am trying to find the best way to remove the background and upscale.
Thanks for doing this comparison! I know it's been a few months since you made this video. Upscayl for Mac is not free now. The few reviews for it in the Mac app store are not confidence inspiring. Given that DGB result is so close, I think I will stick to that for now.
I like the 2x option of that first one. Some images have an okay size but not big enough. I use dgb primarily but everything upscales 4x which would result in a file over 12k x 12k which is too big. I reduce the image by half then upload to dgb for upscale. That gives me the perfect size for everything on redbubble. I could avoid the size decrease if dgb offered a choice of 2x or 4x. Heidi
Sorry for the noob question, but is there good tools for DOWNSCALING? Maybe they not needed, I'm not an expert on this area, but often the upscaled images are too high res... so far I simply use PaintNet to make them smaller...
Upscayl doesn't seem to work with some of the GT710 NVidia cards. I've updated the drivers and tried lots of different suggestions but it still doesn't work.
Hello Philip. I’ve vectorised my ai image’s and uploaded them to canva to add text etc, once downloaded from canva, the dpi is very low. Would I then still have to up the dpi of my design before putting them on the marketplace.
Thank you for this good tutorial! I was searching for a solution and the best tools to upscale my images, you helped me a lot with this tutorial! Thank you very much! :)
Beginner perspective - desperately searching for FREE ways to upscale without adding the background back into an image, tried all 4 you suggested and this was my experience. TINY WOW --- put a background on an image, which means it is useless for POD as all the background removers charge to remove the background and keep HD PIXEL CUT - doesn't put background back on but won't let you upscale x4 unless you have the paid version and upscaling x 2 wasn't good enough quality for POD DGB - Had a 41-minute wait to upscale -- can't comment on if it works or puts background back in as seriously 41-minute wait? Upscayl - this did work on a PNG without putting a background back on it, however, it took nearly 3 minutes to upscale one image, it does have a batch upscale option not sure how long the batch upscale takes but going by 3 minutes for one image I would guess it would be a while.
dgb doesn't work, and pixelcut won't let me move the upscaling amounts around so I can't do anything without paying, pretty bad options imo gonna look for more thx
You mean 3 GB of VRAM (GPU RAM) and not normal RAM right? Well, I haven't use upscale, but you normally need a least 4 to barely handle these models. You shouldn't buy any laptop under 1000 USD if you want to deal with AI images and stuff.
@@lelouchlamperouge5910 idk, I honestly asked chatgpt why and it told me I needed at least 16 RAM, idk the difference between regular RAM and the other thing. I just wanna be able to upscale my images so I can make a decent amount of sales. If I could just make 500 a month, it would be a fantastic starting point, honestly I'd settle for 250 too
Hey Philip, so you create an AI design that you'll add text in another app, say Inkscape. Do you upscale before you add text to the design or after? Thanks, love ya work 😁
In order to upscale image with text, you would have to save it in an image format (e.g. jpeg) this would negatively affect the text. So, upscale image first, then add text in inkscape or wherever. Ideally then save in a file format that preserves text as text (e.g. PDF, or native inkscape format) -- but image format would be okay too.
This is an issue I'm struggling with as well - can you just drag it into a new file in Photoshop but just change the dpi? It's a subject I struggle to get my head around.
Thank you @@adrianlachlan1452 that's really helpful. In addition to wanting to do something with my AI generated art, I am considering selling large prints of my photography as well, and some of my older files don't have the 300 dpi - is dealing with photography resizing different to graphics or do you do the same in Affinity for both? I've only very recently downloaded Affinity so I'm not sure how to use it yet.
upscale was so good lol but the one image per 24 is really a dealbreaker especially when there are other free alternatives i currently use iloveimg cloud based free
