People need to realize that a studio name is just a name. If the talent leaves, or development cycles are rushed, the name of a studio isn't going to magically fix it.
EA used to be a humble game development studio that was very much Indie sized, founded by a small team of highly talented developers as well. As a corporate entity gets bigger, it simply gets more bloated when you are literally making billions annually.

‘The launch of Anthem did not meet our expectations’ What expectations? When the company has to a CGI a trailer and claim it to be gameplay footage? When your own staff don’t know what the game would look like and find out at the same time as consumers from a CGI trailer. When you set unrealistic deadlines that can not be met? When you lie to the consumer base about updates and quality of life improvements, when you refuse refunds and blame every outlier but your own failure to deliver. Why should they care? Their next game will be bought just as much as Anthem, so there's really no reason for them to do better. As long as people pay EA for treating them like idiots, EA will view it's customer as idiots.
Well they make most of their money from sports games, which are popular amongst the casual crowd, so as long as normies are willing to buy Madden EA will be fine unfortunately.
Lol Pretty sure they had poor sells on this to begin with. People are voting with their wallets already. Only people who bought this were not in the know or fell for their lies. Only game that still stands is The Sims 4. But not same The Sims we know from sequels (2 and 3, where they did put more efforts than cash grab 4 less efforts). EA is being Dutch van der Linde. Keep thinking about his "plan", but everyone died because of him and snake in team.
To be fair to the Sims, I feel like they would have released Sims 5 by now had they any idea what they could do with it. The simple fact is, the Sims just can't really improve much more. The Sims 2 was the biggest improvement over Sims 1 and we are just never going to be able to have that again
Mercenaries 2 was what did it for me. As someone who loved the first Mercenaries, the 2nd one was just a hollow shell that couldn't even hold a candle to the first Just Cause. I started seeing EA differently ever since.

If Anthem was a proper single-player game, I might totally play it; graphics wise it looks really good and the backstory sounds really intriguing. Unfortunately, greed took over the driver's seat and drove it straight to EA purgatory. I don't give a flying crap about EA, but genuinely mourn the passing of the original Bioware. Recently I've been playing more and more of the oldschool games instead of the newer titles because of these publishers; really don't feel like supporting most of them and be part of their 'meal'.
I have played through Dragon Age: Origins easily twenty times. It's by far my most favorite game of all time. I couldn't even stomach more than a couple hours of Anthem. Which sucks, because I was honestly excited as hell for it. It looked like it had so much potential. Honestly, after all of this, I've lost hope for Dragon Age 4. Maybe BioWare really is dead. Maybe it's better off that way.
@@prathyushkotamarti1030 I've also played through Origins multiple times with different origins. My heart dropped when I read about the possibility of live service being integrated into DA4's story. EA wanted to do this for Anthem and failed spectacularly, and I dread to think how this will screw up DA4 as well. Hope with Anthem's failure, they'd learn from this and let DA4 remain a single player game.
This is a reason why, for years, I never trusted game footage unless they have a demo on the floor and people/press can play the game. It’s not footage you can trust even if it is an event on stage and they have a person holding a controller. Nope, bring it down to the show floor and have people play it there. EA is notorious for posting the words “actual footage” on a tech demo they whipped up on a high powered PC for which the game engine isn’t even there so they can script anything that looks cool and goes beyond what is possible for them. Really Aliens Colonial Marines it. That’s EA demos in a nutshell.
@@reed1645 yes, but the reason it can't improve is because EA keeps removing people who can fix it and leaving inexperienced employees to deal with it while being understaffed.

@Sundowner Besides Andromeda (obviously) I don't think 3 deserves any of the hate it gets outside of the endings. It improved the gameplay and graphics a ton, and still had a decent story to boot. Plus what was supposed to be a tacked on multiplayer actually became an extremely fun experience. All these things make ME3 a good game, exluding the last like 10 minutes of the story mode.
@@henrikbuchholz1983 Well did they not? Was it no Bioware who made the Star Wars MMO, and the Mass Effect trilogy? A trilogy that will go down in sci-fi video game history?

Anthem E3 footage was a gameplay pitch. That's exactly what I thought when I saw the comparison videos on this game. EA is a really terrible company in this industry.

It wasn't, though I really can't say "I told you so" because the whole thing turned out ot be even worse than I had anticipated.
I am a Software Development student and I agree. EA has a lot of internal problems which unfortunately I think because the way the company corpus is built I do not think it is going to be solved before major losses for EA. They owners and investors of EA are bewildered by entertainment media because they speak a different language. What they do makes sense from the educational background training they've got, but they do not understand thst this is a whole another beast to ride on and conventional methods won't work for long. The reason for their shortcoming is them swimming way out of their own element.

Remember when they released a game on console and that was it. Never got any patches for the game because of the limits on technology, so they made sure it was running as intended, with a few glitches here and there, but usually not game breaking. I miss those days.
Most niche japanese games like EDF still plays like this. They're not safe from day one DLCs though. Soon enough, they won't be safe from live service too once people stop complaining about it like they stopped complaining about day one DLCs.
Or old PC gaming where games were patched, but it was such a huge pain that people tried limiting just what had to be patched. Like around the old Starcraft era.

I'm expecting it to be gone before Christmas. Think about it: the game was garbage *before* "The Cataclysm" and they worked like hell to assure people that it was a sure-fire game changer to bring old players back and new players in. It didn't and hasn't so far, so their sweeping it under the rug instead of pulling a FFXIV and taking it down to...what's the words I'm thinking of (FINISH IT)...before rebranding it and maybe making a profit from it. There's gonna be little to nothing in terms of actual repairs and quality of life upgrades or even announcements before the fall sets in (start of winter sales season), and finally around Christmas (when most people are at home and almost nobody works on that day) they'll abruptly shut down the servers and not think anything else on the matter. Almost certainly they'll laugh at you if you suggest a full refund for this mistake of a game.
gamefan987 I highly doubt that tbh EA dropping support means literally wherever the game is at that’s where it’ll be. They’ll probably drop support mid August.
This is pathetic. EA will surely stop supporting this live service game and what will be left for the people who bought it?! Nothing! Because if they shut down the servers everything is gone. Exactly why EA can't be trusted to produce anything resembling quality any more. These MMO style "live service" games all use the same gameplay loop, the same hook regarding monetization and evidently the same online social structure. The only REAL difference between these MMO style "live service" games now is: the story, the gameplay mechanics and the coat of paint (graphics).
@Channle07 Look i don't pretend to like Warframe either but at least they aren't absolute arseholes and i can give them some credit for sitting down and taking the time to think on how to monetize their game and trying to be reasonable about it. Sure it has other people in it but building a world that works, that's fair, that's fun, that's immersive and has a good story modeled around multiplayer... Lol it's impossible. I don't get it The E3 gameplay is suposed to be fake and the game was not yet build. So you're telling me the whole fucking gameplay trailer was a straight up CGI animation? So they basically pumped in thousands of dollars for a fake gameplay presentation while they could've used that to hire more employees etc to improve the actual game? If so, fuck Bioware
EA should just copy the Glumberland (developer of Ooblets) PR strategy, lash out and blame all of Anthem's problems on "entitled toxic man baby gamers and GamerGate! REEEEEEEEEE!". While it won't do anything to actually fix the game or increase sales, they'll become the heroes of the industry overnight. Shit, maybe even Tim Sweeney will swoop in and offer them a bucketload of cash to make it an EGS exlcusive.
Gotta remember EA already pulled almost everything off anthem, even the dev team to other projects. I wouldn't be surprised if it anthem had less then skeleton crew and with the crash history it appears they dont even have enough people to keep the servers running.
Andrew Wilson has a lot to answer for. Stripping resources from Andromeda Development in order to make Anthem resulted in BOTH games getting screwed. Great job EA!!!

EA: I have no idea what you are talking about. Gamers: But- EA: I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT! THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS ANTHEM! Gamer: ... EA: So, what do you want to know about Jedi: Fallen Order? 😁
Here’s the thing about fake footage. Halo 2 sorta had fake footage but that was because they had to scrap it and the Xbox engine couldn’t handle it. But they still presented a good game. Then there is Anthem.... It was because they had no idea what was going on. Video games don’t have that heart anymore. It’s just shipped out to satisfy the investors and not the players. Not everyone is on board with the game they are making and it’s just like trying to fit a cube into he circle hole. It just doesn’t work...
STEP 1: Assure long term plans for game. STEP 2: Pretend game doesn't exist. STEP 3: Quietly kill off game. This is what happened with Andromeda, and Anthem sure seems to be on its way to step 3 going by EA's past history and their current behavior.

EA won’t shoot themself in the face, the customer tied up and dumped in a shallow grave however.............
Hopefully the customer will be dug out of the grave by a tin can, healed by a miracle doctor and than proceed to tear across the desert to brutally disembowel EA inside a casino.

If EA wasn't willing to pay to save Mass Effect Andromeda, there's zero chance they'd fund a FFXIV Realms Reborn level save for Anthem.
Ah yes Andromeda, "We pulled away all the teams, forget the Quarian DLC, there is one team left to keep the Multiplayer running"
@@MasticinaAkicta i mean, it wasnt undeserved, lets be honest
One is a live service game, and one is not. There is a huge reason why funding Anthem could pay off in the long run. Why did you have to open the old ME:A wound man? That's not nice.
Eqvil no one will buy it now so
Anthem E3 footage was a gameplay pitch.
That's exactly what I thought when I saw the comparison videos on this game. EA is a really terrible company in this industry.
I smelled the bullshit immediately during the reveal. No way the world was going to be as "organic" as they were trying to make it look like, with animals and shit moving on its own everywhere. It wasn't, though I really can't say "I told you so" because the whole thing turned out ot be even worse than I had anticipated.
aggreed when i saw that i was like "ITS A TRAP!!!"
EA isn't even at fault here. Bioware dug its own grave.
Ea is terrible period
I am a Software Development student and I agree. EA has a lot of internal problems which unfortunately I think because the way the company corpus is built I do not think it is going to be solved before major losses for EA. They owners and investors of EA are bewildered by entertainment media because they speak a different language. What they do makes sense from the educational background training they've got, but they do not understand thst this is a whole another beast to ride on and conventional methods won't work for long. The reason for their shortcoming is them swimming way out of their own element.
Cataclysm finally launched today. Seems to have been stealth released a couple hours ago, no announcement anywhere but the update(1.30) is live.
yup, the sure sign of a viable live service game, release a major event update 3 months late with no fanfare or marketing push. it's almost as if they're just trying to cover their ass and finish the roadmap and then wash their hands of the whole farce
Wow. Lol. Had hope for this game. Is it any good?
@@montyqstew I got it this weekend. It's pretty damn fun actually
I tried playing it. It was kinda cool until I tried to walk forwards 10 minutes into the game and couldn't avoid dying. I just kept reverting back to where I was every 2 seconds. All my team mates had the same problem and we all died. After that I just turned the game off. I couldn't play it... 😔
Aatami Tick you have to cleanse yourself or something like that. It’s part of the mechanics
Remember when they released a game on console and that was it. Never got any patches for the game because of the limits on technology, so they made sure it was running as intended, with a few glitches here and there, but usually not game breaking. I miss those days.
Heck, back then bugs could even have positive effects, just think of the GTA series.
Most niche japanese games like EDF still plays like this.
They're not safe from day one DLCs though. Soon enough, they won't be safe from live service too once people stop complaining about it like they stopped complaining about day one DLCs.
When games were made for the consumer, not for their wallet.
Or old PC gaming where games were patched, but it was such a huge pain that people tried limiting just what had to be patched. Like around the old Starcraft era.
Well, old games pre-PS3 era are less complicated than the current games.
When I think back to kotor, mass effect 1, mass effect 2 and first 97% of mass effect 3 it hurts me inside, bioware has made some of my favorite games but it seems anyone who had any talent at that company left long ago.
yep own jade empire gold ed on gog, DAO on gog (becsues it was cheaper to buy the entire game with the new dlc on gog, than it was to buy the DLC alone on steam) and i still got the disk versions of ME2 and ME1 and fuck 3.

Isn't athem an online only title?
If so and they close the servers doesn't that mean it will be completely unplayable. Where mass effect had a single player and you can still play it. So we were charged 64 bucks for a game that will be unplayable after a year.
You know I had a coworker that was hype for Athem and preordered it, I'm not the type of person to say what to do with your money, but when he said that to me, the only thing I thought was "Its EA, that probably the worst thing to preorder," and I was right.
Closing the servers means nothing to a player if there's no one to play with in said servers.
The mass effect IP was sacrificed on the alter of mediocrity, I'll miss those games.
If you enjoyed ME beyond 1 & 2 then you are a part of the problem.

Also I did everyone's loyalty missions too, he told me before I started me2 that loyalty missions are important
@Unqiue Keys actually it was bioware who killed mass effect. No matter how i look at it with 50 mil budget, ea not telling them what to do +5 years of development and werent capable of delivering a solid game its their fault.
EA will probably drop Anthem from it's servers by the begining of 2020
Eddie G idk, man, that's only a little less than 5 months.
*That's a lot of time*
I'm expecting it to be gone before Christmas.
It's gonna be F2P
gamefan987 I highly doubt that tbh
EA dropping support means literally wherever the game is at that’s where it’ll be.
They’ll probably drop support mid August.
@@SplicerOtter Sounds like a new way for EA to make money "Bet on when we surprise take down the Anthem servers!"

This scares me because it kinda makes sense.
This is pathetic. EA will surely stop supporting this live service game and what will be left for the people who bought it?! Nothing! Because if they shut down the servers everything is gone. And EA still wonders why people hate them and their microtransaction infested live service garbage. If I had bought that game I would sue them.
Next announcement: Mass Effect 4, developed by 343 Studios. "By the way, we had no idea that people considered Shepard the main character of the series."

Its not impossible for microsoft to buy bioware awsy from ea with the ips they hold
100% it will go free to play and increase the price of microtransactions... 10000000% will happen before EA pulls the plug.
They wouldve done that already. Or after Apex Legends was an unexpected hit.
DarkKitarist And I still wouldn’t play it. The game froze my ps4 multiple times and I was forced to hard shut off resulting in my hard drive failing. Had to buy a new hard drive lol

plus, apparently having the most profitable entertainment product in history wasn't enough so they just added a literal casino to it. sure they make good games, but that doesn't change the fact that they, as a company, are woefully mis-managed and are every bit the ultra-capitalist mega-corporation they love to parody in their games
Exactly why EA can't be trusted to produce anything resembling quality any more.
These MMO style "live service" games all use the same gameplay loop, the same hook regarding monetization and evidently the same online social structure.
The only REAL difference between these MMO style "live service" games now is: the story, the gameplay mechanics and the coat of paint (graphics).
lol ''story'', there is no such thing as story anymore in EA games, thous days are gone
@Channle07 Look i don't pretend to like Warframe either but at least they aren't absolute arseholes and i can give them some credit for sitting down and taking the time to think on how to monetize their game and trying to be reasonable about it.
Compared to single player games, MMO "live service" games only offer an inferior experience... Sure it has other people in it but building a world that works, that's fair, that's fun, that's immersive and has a good story modeled around multiplayer... Lol it's impossible.
EA thinks it has the whole "live service" formula down pat so they ain't gonna change anytime soon...
