    My grandmother passed in May and I was given a plant arrangement from the viewing. It has a Mostera, a peace lily, 2 dracena, ivy, and some jade philodendron. I just watered it for the first time this week! It took THREE MONTHS FOR IT TO DRY OUT! It was so saturated from the flower shop, I just put it in a corner and ignored it until the ivy died lol I'm amazed everything is still alive and happy! I've been preparing myself to disassemble it and the monstera is surprisingly big, I will follow all the tips I've learned from you about potting up my new monster, hopefully he gets big and beautiful like your vine one day ❤ thanks for all the great information!!

    • @DelightfulDissident
      @DelightfulDissident หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Just to clarify, everything has been growing the whole time. The peace lily hadn't gone limp until this week, which is actually what grabbed my attention because I'd grown so used to ignoring it, and the monster has pushed out two new fenestrated leaves since arriving. I don't understand it. Lol 12 hours after watering everything was perky again so the roots are seemingly fine. Shouldn't it all have rotted sitting in moist soil for 3 months???

      @@DelightfulDissident sorry for your loss.
      I'm happy the roots were in good condition still. It really depends on the soil make up and the roots access to oxygen.

      I screwed up. I had one that was dying, and I saved some pieces of it and threw them in a pot, not paying any attention to what direction the stems were in. It’s alive and growing, but just a bunch of baby leaves. I would never have bought it if I had know it needed so much light, which I do not have. I guess I need more grow lights, I have one good one but there just is not enough space under it for all my plants.

    You're the GOAT, man. A couple months ago I killed my beautiful adansonii because I didn't know any better and put it in a way too large pot (hadn't found your channel yet, RIP). Cut up its dried up remains and put them into some jars filled with damp sphagnum moss; kept the jars under a cheap grow light. Wanted to experiment if I could revive it.
    Now I got a bunch of adansonii babies to start off fresh, and I'm confident that this time they're gonna thrive, thanks to your staightforward and no-bs advice.

    The inverse square law means that if you double the distance from a light source, the light intensity decreases to a quarter of its original strength. For a collimated light, like a focused grow light, the decrease is much less -- if you double the distance, the intensity might only drop slightly, so you can place your plants further away without losing as much light.

    After looking at the room several times, my suggestion would be to double up the birds in 1 big pot when the monstera gets really big. Not only will it eventually look like Jurassic park in both corners but the birds grow really well together and will free some space up … for more plants lol. 🙂

    1095FC is fine at the weaker side for BOP. It’s a good one for Monstera. His grow light is very weak. Soltech’s Vita light bulb’s ppf is only 25.95umol/sec / 20w = 1.28. This tech spec should be sold only for $30 at most including designing fee.

    No, don't buy growlights (specially if they're sponsored) so you can decorate your basement at the expense of energy usage, you'll be thankful when the bills arrive. Grow what you can, choose local plants or plants that have been proven to be hardy in any environment and use your windows. If you don't have much natural light, there's all sorts of art out there that doesn't require you to increase your expenses for years.
