did you know that it is common for pre execution prisoners in China to be taken to schools in order to address the students and tell them what they did wrong and what is going to happen to them. I saw this happen a few times in the early 2000s .

Imagine sipping your morning coffee while looking out the window and that van pulls up.
I lived in China 3 years. The only van I saw like that had been turned into an information station at the local train depot. It was unusual to even see a regular cop car or an armed cop except for armored car guards. The customs officers used vans similar to that but with seating when they met foreign flagged vessels at the port. My comment is just opinion but it resulted from time spent in HK, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Shanghai, Qingdao, and Beijing. I found China to be totally different than it is portrayed in western media narratives.
Well it's a big country, with nearly 2 billion population, so if it's only killing 12 thousand criminals a year, it would stand to reason you probably would never see one.

When it comes to "conveniently" taking care of "prisoners of conscience" in an authoritarian country with little to no accountability, there can be problems.

This is still true in North Korea, the family is billed for the rounds fired, and the soldiers' pay.
I have to admit i thought this is nonsense untill i searched first it, it turns out to be true, the convict's families need to pay about 700yuan (about 100 dollars) for the process in order to collect the convict's ashes, they can choose not to pay and leave the ashes as well apparently.
