    Ricky Hatton had a great career in boxing. Had memorable nights winning belts, fought at the top level in Vegas. It’s not a long career and I hope he’s proud of his achievements in the ring because we’re all proud of him

    I am the same age as Ricky Hatton. I grew up watching his fights and went to see him many times...... his small hall fights on the come up where incredible and a real experience for a lad from a small town in North Wales. Ricky is real champion. A champion of the people, brave as they come. He made the absolute most of his talent. I met him in Manchester Airport on a late night/early morning. He didn't have a massive entourage or anything like that - just a really down to earth fella who was polite and friendly. Love you Ricky

    Ricky was a great fighter. His downfall was the way he looked after himself after fights. He'd be heavy on the Guinness and fatty foods. He ballooned in weight which made harder work of training for big fights.
    I don't think he was ever good enough to beat the likes of Manny or Mayweather but he probably could have been even better than he was if he looked after himself when he was not fighting.
    Seems a real down to earth man though. I loved his openness and honesty even down to saying he cries at films like a girl! Shows how real he is.

    Floyd was better on the inside than people give him credit for. He was smarter and rougher in close quarters. Floyd made space to land short shots on the inside and scored when Hatton over committed and smothered his own work. He used elbows to create space and was quicker on the break to land. It could've been any ref in there that night and the fight would've played out the same.

    • @MH-vp7lf

    • @laurarules3642
      @laurarules3642 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I agree the fight would have ended the same way but it would have been more enjoyable to watch with another ref. Cortez was a spoiler that fight

    • @chriswrench7496
      @chriswrench7496 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Mayweather is great on the inside, as is Ricky for different reasons. On the outside there is only one winner though and Hatton says as much in the interview. He always says that being allowed to fight his way may still not have changed the result but he feels it was his only chance in the fight and that Cortez prevented it. It would have been nice to see mayweather pressured into having to fight. Personally I think that Mayweather would've upped the gears sooner and got Hatton out of there even earlier. However, he would've had to work for it and Hatton would've had his moments. Regardless of how we feel the fight would go if refereed differently, there's no denying that Cortez was appalling that night

    • @notoriouslifestyle
      @notoriouslifestyle 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I disagree I have watched the fight many times and Cortez was bought by Floyd he is known for being a corrupt scum of a ref
      If Ricky was allowed to fight his way he wouldn't have got frustrated and he would have been more successful
      Mayweather knew this which is why Ricky was setup for failure
      I gave Ricky a chance against Mayweather if he was allowed to fight freely worst case would have been a split decision win either way if the fight was fair

    • @chriswrench7496
      @chriswrench7496 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@notoriouslifestyle Another criticism of Cortez is that he repeatedly allowed mayweather to duck below the waistline without warning, As quick as he was to call break, he failed to warn floyd for hitting on the break repeatedly. A few months later, He had no issue whatsoever with Hopkins initiating clinches without even attempting to work inside against Calzaghe, No consistent warnings despite it happening every few seconds in each round .On one occasion, he called break before hatton had even stepped in and neither he or floyd had a hand on each other. Zero consistency at all and how refs aren't made to explain such things is criminal

    There will never be another fanbase like Hattons. But let’s not forget the talent to go with it. Two weight World Champ whilst living the complete opposite lifestyle of an athlete who lost to two of the best ever. We’ll forget the Senchenko fight, that shouldn’t have happened.

    Brilliant fighter and a British legend and the only thing that stopped him becoming an hall of famer is that he was in an era with 2 once in a generation fighters

    Unexpectedly bumped into him, Billy, his girlfriend and family, plus - weirdly - a couple of people from Coronation Street, in an empty bar at the MGM Grand a couple of nights after the Mayweather fight. He was all smashed up but insisted we join them and wouldn’t let us spend a penny. What a great, impromptu night with an absolute legend. Thanks for the best memories Rick

    Good interview. I have watched Ricky since he turned pro. Always enjoyed his fights. I remember the night he fought Mayweather, I felt that Joe Cortez got carried away with the big occasion, and was acting too big in his boots. I didn't think it was fair, that he kept breaking the fight, every time Ricky got close. That was Ricky only chance, and he took that away from him. Having said that, it more than likely, would have gone the same way, even if the ref had left things flow a bit more. It was interesting what Ricky said about the fans booing with the anthem, and the look on Cortez's face. Good to see Ricky is in a good place now. He deserves it. He comes across as a genuine guy.

    He was never given a chance against Mayweather. But you have to say, Mayweather and Pacquiao were a level above Ricky.

      10 levels above. He was never great anyway. Beat older fighters and dodged a British showdown which nobody says because ricky is liked and white.

      @@user-kq9vv5tj1u He was a very good fighter who was also down to earth and humble which is why the fans loved Ricky it's nothing to do with being white.

      @@charlesbrown4941 bollocks. Total BS. Everybody knows it. It's because he's white and let's be honest most whites cannot fight and have weak jaws. Most british fighters do.
