    Piers fan comments on Wenger are revisionist history. One of the best and most revolutionary managers we had that sacrificed himself for the stadium in later years on behalf of the club etc. He wanted to go with Dein but stayed out of loyalty to the club.

    • @martinharvey2390
      @martinharvey2390 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      He stayed far too long an ultimately his loyalty was damaging, the evidence of which was Arteta having to give away or cancel contracts of players he recruited because they were unsellable

    • @ShutThePuck
      @ShutThePuck 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@martinharvey2390 It was damaging for the simple fact that he was so beloved and was effectively a shield for the failures of the contested ownership and management at the time. It tore the fanbase apart but when you look back at what he did, he basically sacrificed a decade of his life ensuring that Arsenal would stay competitive during the most financially turbulent years it had ever experienced.

    • @dre22
      @dre22 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Wenger earned millions and walked away with at least £10m when he was sacked so let’s stop pretending like he was doing it for free. The man stayed at least 10years longer than he should have, was tactically inept for the modern game and was rightly moved on. The best managers know when to walk (Ferguson, Klopp etc), Wenger wanted a job for life. First 10years of his reign great, the remainder was a mixture of near misses and excuses. A cushy hob at FIFA is where he belongs.

    Respect to both Piers and Simon, it’s so refreshing in this day and age to see two guys who can spoke honestly and even admit when they are wrong. Also the section at the end about mental health is so true, the people who feel it know it to be true but there also seems to be an external promotion of the issue so basic emotions can’t just be today I’m happy and yesterday I was sad and in time I’ll keep changing. And I believe it is no coincidence that mental health grew with the mobile phone/pc boom because now every man is an island and conversation is dying….even footballers rock up to games wearing AirPods!!!

      Say you have low IQ without saying you have low IQ. Arteta has transformed a club that was down in the dumps. Look at the culture around the club and the lucrative nature of the project. Agreed he hasn't won a lot but it's only a matter of time. Do you understand that he is literally in his early 40s? He has the best part of a couple of decades. And every footballing expert knows and understands that he is going to manage a Barcelona or Man City at some point in his career. If you have any footballing sense, you will see the class act that is Mikel Arteta!

    33:00 wenger certainly went going a very rough period at Arsenal after a good run of success. But I don’t hold this over this head. Wenger spend a lot of time investing in the club value. He convinced the board to properties and increase the brand of Arsenal. He sacrificed success for financially stability. I respect what Wenger did for Arsenal. If you look at the state of old trafford. You look at Chelsea and Liverpool still in their old stadiums. Wenger threw an alley oop to Arteta because the infrastructure and club culture at Arsenal has become a very formidable machine

    - How exactly would Piers expect the club to sustain itself against the financial might of Chelsea and Man City with the paltry amount of supporters able to attend games at Highbury in comparison to the Emirates?
    Charge even higher ticket prices than they currently do? And then have Piers moaning about how much tickets cost!?
