I spent a month in rehab with Gabe. I've heard this all before. Many times. Down to precisely the exact choice of words.
The dude is filled with more raw musical talent than i have ever seen, and i know a lot of musicians. He is a real guy, with real hurt and pain, and i like him. I would have even said we were friends during the month we spent together.
But this is a performance. This is a rehearsed and curated performance that he has given many times.

A lot of addicts are self aware . Stuck reflecting on their past and the things that they’ll accomplish if they just “do better” in their cycle of wanting better but not doing enough to maintain “better” …. Wanting change but Comforted by their pain and addicted to masking. knowing what theyre doing is hurting them and as long as they do the same thing they’ll never truly have a better life until they change.

@@billg7205 My experience with adversity is that it never feels ok no matter what age or circumstance. Today's hurt is just as shocking and maddening and raw as yesterday's possibly because our responses to traumatic events, if they are to do so, are stored in our system. On the contrary, the more adversity the less resilience is often the outcome. However, if someone experiences a mood that Is without hope or love then they may convince themselves that they don't want to live and they may act Accordingly by exposing oneself to riskier situations. If you survive then you might feel less hopeless, more motivated. Your actions follow each mood Accordingly. Your mood is understandable because of the many barriers in our society, the lack of everything good including people, and deprivation from basic needs. From poor sleep to hunger to withdraw to isolation. It all contributes to our resilience, and lack thereof.

I started this video expecting something similar to the other fentanyl addiction videos. Gabriel’s eloquence was so familiar though I didn’t recognize his face. Someone in my memory once spoke the way he did, smile the way he smiled, just a bit awkward but in a suave cool way. After seeing a couple comments about who the love of his life was, I came across his Instagram. I WORKED WITH GABRIEL IN HOUMA!!!! Cristiano’s! The job was shit, but he was so kind. Gentle, but not in a way that invites you to walk on him. Smart as a hell. Always making us laugh to make side work less daunting. Patrons loved him. I remember him being a musician! I’m happy to see he made dreams come true, even if this season doesn’t look the same as others. INSANE how small the world can be. My friend, you are so genuine to your core. Your life, your heart will find it’s way back to happy. Can’t wait to hear what you release next. You’re a star ✨

TH-cam is the only social media I use because I know it wouldn't take long after I put myself out there for people to start showing up again. I do know if I get to that point again I'm just staying there. Before go get it people were dying and Facebook just became a place to post your condolences and then keep doing what you were doing. Good luck. Sounds like you got a good chance

I relate to his story all this potential kicked to the curb but keeping your cool on the brink of disaster. Finally at forty, my lowest point (I couldn't figure how to pack a few possessions into a paper bag) I checked into a LA county rehab. After being released it took 3 years until the obsession subsided. My reputation slowly returned as an artist and designer and eventually opened my own businesses. At 73 I'm still clean and sober for 33 years, still working on my businesses with partners living quietly and comfortably. I hope Gabriel finds his own moment of clarity and that it takes hold of him.

I lost my brother to fentanyl last year. He overdosed about five months after his wife did. They left behind three year old twin boys. It's nearly impossible to get off of and deadly, far more so than heroin. Whenever I see these interviews I feel like I'm listening to a dead person talking.

    • @kingfarmer1010
      @kingfarmer1010 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Thank you, I too feel very sad for the boys and over the loss of my brother and sister-in-law. My sister and her husband are doing a wonderful job raising them and they are very loved by us all. The boys understand their losses but only within their capacity.
When told their mommy died they cried and asked "but why?", "but I love her", they just couldn't understand how a person as important as their mommy, who they loved more than anyone else in the world, could die and they will never see her again.
When their daddy died they experienced the same difficulties comprehending such profound loss. The morning after his funeral one of the boys sat next to me and said "my heart was broken last night", I said "yes I know your heart feels broken", he looked me straight in the eyes and told me "my daddy died". Sadly they understand but unfortunately only as well as young children can.
The reason I say that is, days will come when they more and more fully understand what happened to their parents and I believe they will have to process their loss and grief many times at different stages of their lives, as their abilities allow them, due to their profound losses occurring at such a tender age.
My brother and his wife went from owning a successful business, nice house, two cars and raising their beautiful boys to losing everything and both dying within two years of getting addicted to Heroin/Fentanyl (the Fentanyl killed them).
When my sister-in-law died they'd already lost everything and were staying in a little trailer. My sister and her husband already had the boys. My brother found her in their bedroom, went into shock and never recovered. That very night he began sleeping outside in a hammock in the backyard, homelessness soon followed.
Early morning, five months later, my brother died alone on the ground in a Florida homeless encampment. Everything he owned was in his pockets, returned by the coroner; a lighter, a little broken flashlight and $3.16 all in loose change.
The sorrow and loss experienced by our family is indescribable. I also learned to not even try to judge users. The faces of Fentanyl addicts are tragic shells of the people they really are, their behavior unrecognizable compared to the lives they once lived.
They are terminally ill with an addiction to a drug so powerful they absolutely will die without intensive medical care and assistance to get off it. Fentanyl is by far the most addictive and dangerous drug to ever hit the streets.
Drugs being used now are so deadly that last year every single day on average 305 families in the U.S. received the same sickening life shattering news we did. My brother and his wife were two of 107,375 people killed by them.

As I was listening to this video I thought about how much Gabriel seems like a good guy and how something was familiar about him. Then he said The Soundflowers and I had to pause and go back. And then I realized I did know him because I listened to his bands! I didn't recognize him because of his different haircut but it all came back to me when he started talking about the Trash Dogs and The Soundflowers. I was actually a big fan of The Sunflowers. I listened to their EP and I really thought he a PK were going to go somewhere with it. Just when it seemed like they were going to...it was over. I had been so confused, especially because I thought he and PK were a beautiful couple. I had actually been following her for some time and I thought for sure that he was the one she was going to spend the rest of her life with. I continued to follow Gabriel on Instagram for a while hoping he would at least take his music somewhere but he eventually stopped posting and I haven't heard from him in a long time. At the time I knew nothing about his struggles with his childhood and sobriety and I'm very sad to hear that he's found himself in these circumstances. Gabriel, i know you're a good guy and I hope you can overcome everything you've been though and find a way to be successful in your music.

I hear such carefully chosen words in most of your responses and yet you don't even appear to try! It just flows so naturally from you! Charming and adorable to boot!!! I hope by the majority of these comments on here you can tell how much we believe in you. You are still so young and there is so much life out there for you to have, which includes the family you already have and the one that you will make. I know you will have a fight ahead of you in order to leave your addiction behind but I'm terrified for you if you don't find the urgency in acting on it now!!! Your next high can be your last! What a massive tragedy it would be if we....YOU didn't get to see your light really shine from an accidental.... whatever may come from the Russian roulette you are playing now! I'm a fan already!!! This makes me so sad, he’s such a smart intelligent and has a beautiful soul. What a shame, so much potential here! I hope he finds his way out. I myself was a very heavy oxycontin addict and turned to heroin for the last 2 months of my addiction. I got help and got out of that lifestyle right before the fentanyl epidemic started. Oxy & heroin was hard enough to get off of, so I can’t even imagine how hard it is to get off of something like that. I have so much empathy for people struggling with opiate addictions & especially fentanyl. I truly hope he finds his way out and get’s better, I can tell he has what it takes to be a great musician. If you’re reading this Gabriel, I have a song lyric that always helped me.
“Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right” - The Grateful Dead, Scarlet Begonias
I hope you find the light, you’re life is worth so much more ❤️

Y'all do realize that he is Paris Jackson's ex, as in her dad was The Michael Jackson. Paris and Gabe were The Soundflowers. She is the underage girl he met at the Rainbow Room and rehab girlfriend he is talking about. Paris Jackson is how all those famous connections happened. Paris did a talk episode with Willow Smith about the breakup in Aug 2020.

Hard to believe that Gabriel Glenn has reached this level of self abuse - self sabotage. He's so talented and to choose this lifestyle for a drug is so self deprecating. He has so much he could give to himself, to others and to the world. He doesn't love himself enough to care, which is sad. Addiction is such a horrible cycle of remaining an adolescent. And far too easy than being a responsible adult. I came to Gabe's channel hoping to listen to some new music and this popped up in my feed. But Gabriel, you can do it! You can beat this! You have it in you to do whatever it takes. Just do it!! Love, light and peace man. Praying for your complete recovery...

Addiction is much more complex than people "not wanting to be an adult" and remaining "an adolescent". You're either a kid yourself or just completely clueless yet you might mean well. Either way, just avoid the comments and the judgments if you have never dealt with addiction or anyone close to you ( which is clearly the case).

This is without a doubt my favourite interview. Gabriel is wonderfully articulate. He spoke to my soul when he shared that he walks around with hurt. I wish these men who raise us knew the lasting trauma they have caused. I am very proud of Gabriel as it takes a great deal of strength to look at our childhood to figure out why we behave the way we do. You got this Gabriel! 💯🙏🏻🎸🎼

Sometimes the stories of drug addiction can become rather similar but every now and then you get one like this where the subject is so intelligent and can talk sensibly about what it is costing him in lost relationships and lost dreams. Despite being a long time addict Gabriel has evidently managed to remain in control of his mental capacity for critical analysis and rational thinking. I hope he is close to facing his fears, overcoming his addiction and fulfilling his rock star dreams.

Hearing him talk about his childhood abuse, & the tone in his voice... then how he shifts to talking about his music & finding his true love... the dichotomy is startling.
I hope he gets clean, & gets back to making music. Too often, we lose what could have been the most beautiful music that could ever happen to drug addiction. It silences their song, silences their story. As heartbreaking as the vicious grip of drug addiction is, for someone like me who lives off the beauty of music, the risk of losing his song is so much worse.
Gabriel, if Mark manages to catch up with you again, please. Please try rehab again. I know it’s so scary, bc you’re sad is so comforting. But facing your demons is so much more gratifying than numbing yourself out to them, or constantly exhasting yourself by running from them.
The sun rises tomorrow. You just need to be there to see it.

I really cannot get over this one. This is a great example of what opiates can do to mess up your perspective. This guy is homeless, completely addicted, and no real plan to get out of it or end in sight. But yet, when you hear him talk, it sound like nothings wrong at all! Like we should be taking him seriously. Same with some of the ones on here who are homeless junkies but still consider themselves to be a great father/parents.
No matter how bad life is, opiates make everything seem just fine, like nothings wrong. This guy is high out of his gourd in this interview.

  • @thebusinesswoman23

He truly has so much potential and intelligence. I feel like he is close to addressing that fear he is talking about, but it looks different for everyone. It took about 7 years of CONSTANT treatment programs and doctors for me to get out completely. As a musician too I know exactly what he's talking about how we feel everything so strongly. As well as the idea that my art comes out easier when I'm feeling those negative emotions more or am in a bad place. Now I've learned to channel those scary feelings into my art instead of looking for anyway to dissociate .

    Too crazy, dude!
I’m a bassist/vocalist from Madison Wisconsin. Our stories are so similar. My step dad also stepped in and raised me, I called him "dad" as well. He put a short scale fender bass in my hands at 14. But he also was a drug addict, and got my mom strung out on H. He gave me music and alot of anger. He was a semi famous bassist in a band called SOUP from Appleton Wi in the late 60’s. They blew up with there self titled debut. Toured with Cream.

He reminds me of someone very close to me but has sobered up and come out the other side (not unscathed, but stronger). I hope something clicks for him. I think because he’s gotten himself to this point he has in a sense given up but it doesn’t need to be that way. He knows exactly what he needs to do and he just need to do it. Don’t waste your life man. You only have one, and it can be really beautiful trust me. You know the pain so there’s no point in hiding from it. It’s manageable. I believe in you.

Great video. He has spoken some truths everyone needs to hear. Don't think just because someone sells some kind of dope, that it's even truly that. Love how he recognizes that even as a child he was altering his own conciousness and reality without drugs. Most adults are completely unaware of it all while they put their child on a Merry go round, or keep jiggling them, even throwing them in the air...all of it can be predispotitioning for an addiction! He's actually very perceptive and holds a lot of self awareness too. 🙏👍👌💯🎯❤
