It has been 18-20 years since we watched 3-2-1 Penguins, like, we had them on VHS.
Same. Strange case though I had the first 3 on VHS, then the proceeding 3 on DVD. I grew up in that weird VHS to DVD phase, so I had some older recordings of shows from the late 90s while growing up in the early 2000s.
Viran felt that. There’s still a handful of VHS’s at my MawMaws house that I used to watch all the time
The only thing I remember about this show was the ads that showed up before some of those veggie tales dvds and stuff

GOSH! I remember watching this show every day! didn't realise how old this series is. I was 7 or 8 when I watched 3 2 1 Penguins. 7 years later the nostalga hits me HARD.

Don't blame Big Idea for the second two terrible episodes, they gave the show to another studio after only making a handful of episodes, and that studio promptly ruined it.
That said, that also means the new studio came up with *B E A N S* so maybe they're the real meme prophets.
Well, the new episodes pre and post production were done at Big Idea, the animation itself was outsourced
I think the sudden nosedive's got more to do with the studio jumping from three episodes a year to *twenty.* With acceleration like that, quality control's gonna tank no matter who's in charge of it.
Okay, I'll try to explain in a bit of detail thanks to SaberSpark's VeggieTales video. So, the Chad Direct-to-Video episodes cost the same amount as a VT video (about $1M, according to Saber), but didn't sell as well. Big Idea cancelled this and the LarryBoy spin-off series due to their 2003 Bankruptcy, and when NBC wanted to air censored VT episodes, they ordered new episodes of 321P, and that's how we got the virgin Made-for-TV version.
@@dr.insaneoiv Right. And because those 20 episodes were made four years after the first six, Big Idea couldn't secure the same writers, directors or even voice actors. I'd forgive a drop in animation if the storytelling was still up to par, but... it wasn't. The standards of Tim Hodge could not keep up with the standards of Ron Smith.
Curiously, despite NBC's censorship practices with "VeggieTales," they didn't really do much with "3-2-1 Penguins!" Most of what they cut from the first six episodes was just for time constraints (chopping the 30-minute episodes down to 23 minutes.) They could still quote the Bible, and the kids could still end episodes with a prayer, as long as they don't name-drop God directly.

This is kind of off topic, but when you guys mentioned the animation I just had to add a little anecdote:
The CGI animations used in the show were actually really good for people who were just starting to rig human characters, and it’s widely believed that some of the animators who worked at Pixar actually contacted Big Idea on how to use the tools. I just think that’s kind of neat.
