It is because there is little to no work in Antigonish and Nova Scotia in general. Any work there happens to not pay very well in relation to cost of living. I should point out that there is on average 11% to 16% unemployment in Antigonish with a population about 20,000 people. The weather is the other thing! Winters are not nice at all being wet, cold and miserable.

Western winters are brutal too. Plus they also have taxes, built in to provincial services as payer fees. Are you sure rent isn’t high
