    It's actually cpm D2. Way better than regular d2. Also medford heat treat his steel very well. Probably holds up better than most 20cv that has crappy heat treat. Remember people it's not about the steel as much as it's about the heat treat!!

    I have a hand full of older Medford’s knives and they are all nice and still my favorite knife that I carried for years is a viper. Awesome knife and I will say D2 is a good everyday steel. Easy to sharpen and polishes out nice. An as far a Greg goes I had a minor issue and he got on the phone and told me how to fix it. Sooooo. Have a bunch of his knives and when I had a issue custom service he personally took care of it.

      That's good to know cause I have a 350$ midgard messer with cpm d2 and it's great steel so yeah you've made me say ok cpm d2 know I just hope that g10 is probably great quality to im sure that knife is worth the 400 maybe more like 350 but what's an extra 50 to 75 dollars right if your paying for quality

After viewing it, I would but one....it's a steal. (Pun intended!) Very impressive operation, super close tolerance and you get what you pay for. Is it me but seeing him reminds me of Nutnfancy‽

    Medford Infraction is one of my go to EDCs not all Medfords are crazy huge. And Medfords in house heat treat is great. I've got the Infraction and Slim Midi. SM is a little too slim for me, but still a great blade. If getting into Medfords start with full thickness Midi Marauder, Infraction, or Colonial. All "normal" EDC length but you get to feel the Medford thickness, and Medford quality. Hell the Medford lock up sound is just awesome.

    I’m not a big Medford user, i have one, it’s not my most expensive knife, but it’s certainly up there. I really like it, and its certainly impressed me more than my Sebenza did. I like my Sebenza, but it didn’t wow me like the Medford or my Rocksteads did, and continue to do. If i want a hard use knife, its my go to, the Rocksteads and ADVs are my favourite EDC’s and the Sebenza tends to sit in the drawer. Enjoyed your video though.

  • @roningraves6563
    @roningraves6563 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Great video man. Like anything, it's not just about materials, but what a maker does with those materials. Both a Honda Accord and a Ferrari 488 are made out of Steel and Fiberglass. They'll both get you from point A to point B; They're both perfect good cars, but they're far from the same car. Medford also uses steels other than D2. But even so, due to a fantastic heat-treat, their D2 competes with many other makers' knives using "better" steels. Medford's D2 is incredibly well done as is their S35VN. I believe yours is a Praetorian Scout, which is one of their entry level Praetorians.While I'm not always a fan of Medford's politics, I try to focus on the product. The quality of Medford products is undeniable. Almost everyone who criticizes Medfords have never actually owned one. Most people who actually own one are loyal customers. I have a Praetorian T, a micro Praetorian, and an On Belay and they are absolute tanks. While no knife is for everyone, Medfords definitely EDC legend for a reason. 👍🏻

    Hey Jeff,
    I think it's worth mentioning the secondary market price. A Scout can be had sometimes for under 300USD, and the custom knives typically sell for just over half retail on the secondary. There are exceptions of course, but I think a lot of viewers might approach these models more if they knew what secondary market prices are.

    HRC? Heat treat? Behind the edge thickness? The fact that the tip is designed to be more robust because it's not hollow ground like the rest of the edge so u get the best of both worlds? Checking how thick the pivot is because that's where most of the pressure goes when hard use comes into play? Check how big the washers are because that inhibits side to side play? Mentioning that they went with a stop pin design that is more robust than the traditional sandwich design? All the little things raise the price (just to name a few). Look at the sebenza. They use s35vn (nothing crazy). But they hit the hrc and the heat treat to perform at optimal standards for that steel. I'll bet you could hammer the tip of that medford into a 2x4 and pry it apart without causing any real damage to the knife be it the tip, the lock up or the side to side stability. Knives don't just "cost alot of money" go into some detail, dude

    I just got me an American knife from Emerson knives can you guess which one it is 😎 aesthetically speaking I like the Planarian but I think knives should be as thin as possible and still stand up to the abuse that you will give it.

    So this may be a dumb question but here it goes: why would you use D2 on a survival style knife? I get it holds a good edge and is high carbon so is a bit stronger but...it rust no matter what you do if you're actually going to use the blade. Every skinning knife I own is D2 and after a weekend of hunting with any condensation involved and I'm spending the next couple hours polishing off rust. For $450 why not M390 or some kind of stainless? IMO it's fashion over function. If you're going for "The Hunted" look, get a Tom Brown Tracker and get what you pay $400 for.

    • @mickemerson1339
      @mickemerson1339 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're absolutely right. M390 has been used for centuries for every kind of bladed implement. Carbon steel will rust immediately and has never been used in good edged weapons or knives because it's so fragile. Not even oil and regular maintenance will stop carbon steels from rusting. Just buy an M390 chopper or CTS-204P axe if you want to survive

    The materials, the liner lock vs the price. No. Looks like something that won't function what a knife is supposed to. I wouldn't pay over 100 bucks for a liner lock. Plus my old Spyderco Manix 2 XL will perform better. Thanks for taking the hit.

    I don’t hate Medford, but $400+ for D2, G-10 and a Liner lock is obviously a turn off. If it had 20-CV and a Titanium Frame lock or button lock it would be different.

  • @M240Bravo
    @M240Bravo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You blew my mind when you mentioned that if you had no knowledge of the Medford brand, that knife looks much more like a chunky budget knife. I'm one of those guys that exclusively buys American made knives and I have no issue shelling out the money for them but even then its hard to justify the price when the Microtech Cypher I carry daily uses better materials and is a literal mechanical tool. However, I get that buying $300 to $500 OTFs makes me look crazy too and that's just the way the knife world works so I say to each his own.
