  • Knives like these take a lot more steps than you would think right? Greg Medford lets us in on some of the secrets behind what it takes to craft a handmade Medford Knife. You'll learn a few things about custom knives in this candid walk and talk around the Medford factory. Most of the Medford craftsmen were at lunch so we were able to get closer than ever to the knife making machines. Be sure to watch until the end to see some great footage of the knives being shaped and sharpened.
If you carry a Medford knife let us know in the comments which model, we love to hear about what models you guys actually carry.

I just purchased my first Medford last week! The Slim MIDI with the S45VN steel. I started collecting a year ago and have been very fortunate to be able to purchase some of the best quality hand made USA Knifes. Medford really impresses me. The craftsmanship is truly impressive. Pure art! The knife is just perfect. The weight is so the balanced, I can’t help but respect the quality to every detail they integrate into the knife. It is just next level. The Medford is one of my most expensive knifes that I own, but I truly feel it was worth every penny. The blade is sharp as hell!! It’s hard to find hand made quality tools built to last. I’m in my Mid 20’s, so I am excited to build my Medford collection as I grow older, I’ll pass my first Medford down to my son one day! Thank you Medford for building such an impressively capable and beautiful knife for me to enjoy on

The guys who assemble the knife have to deal with the shortcomings!? What exactly does that mean? Why aren't there different sized spacers so they can actually assemble a knife with 1+1 spacer? I wonder, since each spacer are very thin, isn't it possible that one of them can get damaged making the knife sit none centered?

There is a lot of contrivercy regarding these knives and as a knife collector and someone who both apriciates knives for their simple ruggedness from utilitarian point of view and constant innovation in steels/deploying mechanisms I thought I might put my 2 cents in. So far I have met only 2 sides on the debate over medford knives. People either fantastically love and stand by them, or those who despise them and think it's a total scam, where cost vs reward don't add up. I guess I would say I'm somewhere in the middle. I have never met the creator of Medford knives and have never owned one his knives. Simply because I cannot justify spending a thousand dollars on a folder. We are talking custom 1911 Kimber territory here for a folder. But regardless how you feel about the knives and the Maker on a personal level, you have you admire the guy for being a genius when it comes to advertisement for creating this allure this hype a mystic feel about his blades that are only second to the one and only King Arthur sword. If you hate these knives then your logic is sound with the claim that they are over build, over priced pribars with an edge that couldn't compete with blades that are made strictly for slicing, and wouldn't fair too well against a real pry bar that costs $20. You would also have to ask your self how would a blade that doesn't have the machining precision of being machined ten thousandth to an inch to spec effect your every day tasks. We are talking about measurements that are beyond what a human eye can perceive. So it's ridiculas to say anything less than perfect would somehow make that blade not useable. We are talking about perfect blades used for most imperfect jobs, (cutting rope, cardboads, splitting wood, etc). But then again if your argument is that this maker is willing to go beyond what is acceptable in the knife world and puts in a premium amount of time on each blade, then he has the right to charge premium dollar for his hard work. And let's not kid ourselves you do get one awsome over build, hunk of thick titanium and steel ( like cpm- 3v, S7) that very few other companies offer. And there is something about holding a piece of metal in your hand that is so monsterous you could only justify it if you were planning to use it to cut into a tank, that gives you a feeling of power that's hard to explain to people who have not been bitten by the knife serpent and have molten iron venom surging through their veins. My point is beauty is in the eye of the beholder, would I pay a million dollars for Jackson Pollic painting, hell no, unless I knew I could sell it for 2 million next day. Well same with a knife, is this knife worth a two week's worth of salary, from a practical, logistical standpoint. Probably no, there are tons of other knives that could handle almost every task you throw at them with no effort, that are build solid and from top quality materials. But would any of those knives give you that feeling that you are holding something in your hand that is indestructible, maybe a few if any. And in the end that's what people choose to pay for. That feeling. Just like the guy who buy's a Ferrari. Could he have purchased a car that was cheaper and still very fast, yes but a Ferrari has a certain feel that comes with it, that mystic, and so does this knife. So in the end both sides are correct, it is both a knife that is over build and over priced, and a knife that is worth every penny for some one who feels it's the only knife for him/her in the statement it makes. Again this is just my opinion on the matter cause I have seen too many people argue and bicker like children over this knife. And I am not a knife reviewer that is employed or payed by companies to write about their knives, this is just my opinion and on the whole it means nothing.

Thank you for your time and thoughtful input. It is greatly appreciated. Another thing to consider that adds value to our knives is how hands-on and accessible the owners and office staff are. The product support and customer service is bar none some of the best in the industry. We love what we do!!
