As a Veteran, I had the honor to be in one of the Veterans groups in wheelchairs that flew in from South Florida in 2019 and watched the changing of the Guard ceremony. Quite impressive, an unforgettable trip.
I'm an old Marine who served during the Cold War. I was an office pogie. Supply Admin and Operations. I didn't face danger, the enemy, or put my life on the line. That is the main reason I love you guys who did. God bless you for your supreme sacrifices. God LOVE you for your continued respect and love for your country. And, I'll tell you this one sincerely; I especially love y'all for your DISTRUST of the U.S. Gubmint. 🤪😝😁

Tens and tens and tens of thousands of times. Hours upon hours upon hours, days weeks. This is one of the hardest badges to earn in all of the military. The commitment this takes is incomprehensible to the average person. You are looking at the absolute finest of finest here. Every single one of these dudes are studs
The bit that makes me get a chill on my spine is those moments were the sergeant stops to salute the unknown soldiers. Being non american, seeing this level of respect for the fallen soldiers is enough to bring a grown man to tear up. This is extremely beautiful.
That moment where the first guard presents the rifle and begins adjusting it only for the new guard to immediately take it away and begin inspecting it… gives me chills every time!
Yah they do that during the inspection and when they finish their shift. If the rifle was loaded it would be a serious hazard to be spinning around like that so it’s a flashy way to do a basic safety check before the rifle gets flipped and smacked and stuff. (Yes I know that m14s have a magazine and they don’t have one but a lot of accidental shootings happen because people take the mag out of the gun and don’t realize there is a round in the chamber. The guard charging the rifle would eject the round if there was one in the chamber)
Any veteran who doesn’t get chills well they just weren’t meant to serve. I am a proud veteran and can watch this over n over and get chills like it was the first time I watched it
To see the sections of the mat having depressions in specific spots as well as seeing the darkened spots on the concrete being exactly where they step and have specifically stepped for years is a testament of the practice and precision of what these gentlemen do. So impressive!
It’s one of the hardest badges to earn in all of the military. The commitment this takes is unfathomable. These are the best of the absolute best right here. You could trust any of these dudes to get the job done, top to bottom all studs.
A gentleman who lives in my city has been a SERE instructor training even the Navy Seals. When asked what his greatest task was in service he takes no pause but to say "A Silent Sentry in the Old Guard". May future generations never falter or fail to defend this great land against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
I think every single American should visit Arlington Cemetery and see what our beloved freedom costs. The changing of the Guard is the most emotional moving experience I've ever witnessed in my entire lifetime.
The price of freedom can be seen in the faces of hose honorable men and women gathered there to observe this amazing tribute up close and personal. Semper Fi!

My grandfather, WWII Veteran, was part of an Honor Flight several years ago. He said they all cried, saluted HIM, and he was just so proud. I still remember.. . RIP to all who fought for us and have passed...
To all those who may laugh about the old men in the background: Once they where well trained, once they fought for their country, once they where in a condition enemies where afraid of. In just a few years all those who are now the strong ones will look the same. YOU will look the same. And you wouldn't want people to laugh at you just because your best days are in the past. So show respect the way you would like to receive respect later.

How do you not respect the men who sacrificed so much? I can’t watch this without tearing up with the veterans in wheel chairs showing and being shown respect.
It’s great to see this actually filmed properly. I’ve seen so many recordings of this where they deliberately film it with a slower frame rate so it looks all jumpy, in a bid to make the sentinels look more robot like.
I just have to say thank you to all veterans who make the ultimate sacrifice to keep us safe. They give so much for so little reward. I appreciate and applaud you and your courage.❤
Both of my parents, mom and dad are buried at Arlington. This place is so different when you have a loved one resting there. You wanna protect it, you wanna know people are showing respect. I've never served in the military, but most of the men in my family have going back many years. It's so weird how i feel about it as an adult compared to when i was younger. I'm babbling but thank you for this video, it's appreciated.
You are absolutely right, and, no, you are not babbling. I feel just as you do. My parents are buried in Arlington, as well. I served for 26 years and have always hoped that my wife and I could be buried there. We meet all the current criteria. However, available space is becoming limited, and it appears that the authorities will be establishing new restrictions such that we probably will have to go elsewhere. So sad after all of these years.
A few years ago, I visited cemetery of Colleville sur Mer, for birthday of D-Day, I have met american veterans, it was so beautiful and full of emotions. Happy to talked to an heroe from Airborne. A frenchy.

I was there a few years ago. I was amazed how The Americans go all out to remember their veterans. You are so lucky to be American. I love how all your flags are placed along the headstones during the 4th of July weekend.
Ive seen this in person. Every American needs to see this in person. Freedom isn't free. Many have served and died for the freedoms we all enjoy. God bless our armed forces.
These soldiers are some of the most dedicated and detailed in our entire military. They are amazing to watch. While I don’t know much about what we used to call ‘Delta Force’ and is now ACE (and has a new name that they’ve been able to keep civilians from finding out so far) I have heard that more soldiers will pass their training and make it into Delta than there are soldiers who pass their training and become one of the Guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. That’s insane!
The Tomb Guard badge is the 3rd rarest badge ever bestowed in the military. Behind the Astronaut badge and the Horseman's badge (the guys who ride the horses with the funeral caissons). There is no more strict selection and auditioning process in this entire country.
Those men in the blue shirts helped save the world. They worked hard as boys to help families survive the depression and as young men helped the Allies defeat the Axis. The entire world owes them a debt of gratitude.

I'm largely an apathetic person. I have no personal history with any type of army and to me, military parades and rememberance days are not relevant to me, that is not to say, I'm not grateful for those who sacrificed, I am grateful. I respect others because that's just part of my policy of being a respectable person. I respect military personnel because I know to respect. The way they conduct these practices, the well trained movements, their posture, the sounds they make with their shoes and when they check the rifle, it feels me with admiration, intimidates me and actually commands my respect. This goes beyond "knowing", I actually feel like respecting and beyond that, admiring and feeling intimidated by them. Their ceremony is that beautiful and has such an impact. No military march and performance has ever made me feel this way. This ceremony is about respecting the fallen unknown ones, but it also shows strength of might, discipline, coordination, devotion of US soldiers. They are clearly a group not to be trifled with and their ceremony sends a strong message along with the level of respect they have for their unidentified fallen comrades. No other ceremony from other military groups has impressed me like this. It makes me feel inspired to create something based of these beautiful and strong sentinels. Sincerely, An Aussie in Australia
I wish parents would make it a priority to help their children understand the sacrifices that were made to make this great nation great. If they did, maybe those who “take a knee” would be fewer and farther between. 🇺🇸
We take such care and pride in honoring and appreciating our nations veterans especially those who paid for our way of life with the full measure of their devotion and sacrifice only for us to take the exact opposite approach when electing our leaders which in turn, creates more of the first.
I had the distinct honor of being at the changing of the guard on Thanksgiving weekend in 1976 when I was on liberty from Camp Lejeune North Carolina. I was in my Dress Blues, and was standing at the back of the crowd as I watched the ceremony. When the Sergeant of The Guard was at the front, and spoke to the crowd, he said; "Members of the military who are present, and in uniform, are required to render the proper salutes upon the orders of 'present arms'...." I thought to myself; "I would have done so, no matter what". But when the orders of "Present Arms", and "Order Arms" were given, I did as ordered. And thus became a part of the ceremony. I have never forgotten that, and will carry that honor with me until the day I die. I don't know who the Unknown Soldiers are...but I will never forget them. May they rest in eternal peace, and may perpetual light shine upon them.
My wife and I stayed here for a couple hours this past year and watched multiple guard changes. Unfortunately, it was also the place where I saw the most disrespectful people during my entire trip. Was quite sad.
When I hear Taps, I am immediately transported to my dear Brother's funeral. He served in Vietnam twice and retired from the USAF. Agent Orange took him before his time.
It is sad that there are many people in our great nation who just don't understand what this generation actually accomplished. Those people OWE this generation a thanks beyond measure for their freedom, even if they are ignorant and ungrateful.

I truly hope that these young soldiers understand the sacrifices that the veterans watching have made... you are performing your duties because they did their jobs.
There's one particular moment in this ceremony where the guards "salute" the veterans in attendance without raising a hand. They don't do it every ceremony but if you pay close attention they definitely do something different when there are veterans in the crowd.
When the guard comes on the Tomb Plaza, as he walks by those veterans, he scuffs his show. It is a secret salute which the veterans listen for. And the guard gives it without any fanfare.

I've had the honor to see this only one time when I was 18 years old, I am a 52 year old man. It moved me then and it moves me now.

My wife and I stayed here for a couple hours this past year and watched multiple guard changes. Unfortunately, it was also the place where I saw the most disrespectful people during my entire trip. Was quite sad.

My hat also goes off to those veterans in the background that took the bus trip to visit Washington DC.
They came on an Honor Flight. They were flown from their hometown.
@@mark9531 thank you. I was lucky enough to be part of bus trip for WWII and Korean War Veterans several years ago. I was also lucky enough to be raised and worked with the greatest generation.
I truly hope that these young soldiers understand the sacrifices that the veterans watching have made... you are performing your duties because they did their jobs.

Thousands of hours. It takes over a full year to become a tomb guard and that's if you make it that far. 95% failure rate.
So they wear the white gloves to see the dust more easily?
Precision
There's one particular moment in this ceremony where the guards "salute" the veterans in attendance without raising a hand. They don't do it every ceremony but if you pay close attention they definitely do something different when there are veterans in the crowd.
When the guard comes on the Tomb Plaza, as he walks by those veterans, he scuffs his show. It is a secret salute which the veterans listen for. And the guard gives it without any fanfare.
