    I don't ever comment on youtube videos, but this one NEEDS to be known. Did exactly what you said, sprayed the back with the hose for a few mins while it was running, completely unplug it from the wall, plug it back in and it works like a charm again! Ty so much for this!

    *Totally impressive **Fastly.Cool** in my room. Wish I designed this myself. We can’t believe how quiet it is. It’s not as heavy as our last AC unit but it works more evenly and efficiently. Extremely happy with this purchase.*

    I don't have the ability to do this outside but I did do it in the bathtub with the garden hose/sprayer connected to the pipes under the kitchen sink. I placed the heavy A/C on a sturdy tote. I gave up trying to get the cover off the A/C, some issue with the front part. I sprayed the backside fins and let it sit for awhile and did it again and then did the best I could by spraying through the cover and past the fan blades. I just kept going back to it thru out the day. I then turned the A/C over and let a lot of the goop I loosened fall down and I sprayed that out. There are some fins on the bottom of the unit also I'm not sure what purpose they have but much of the worst came from there. I put it back in the window and let it run on fan only for a few hours. I now have a working A/C and it's totally due to your video. Thank You so much!

      Thank you,
      The screws can be a pain to remove sometimes. If your only using hand tools, you have to push in applying pressure while loosening the screws. It's tedious work.
      Happy you got it working never the less! Stay cool

    Just a update: it's been years now owning this unit. Seems every season I have to clean it out due to the pollen/trees. Unit still works like a champ!
    I found an additional unit my neighbor was throwing away and I tested out my electric power washer on this unit. To my suprise the power washer did a great job.
    - I was afraid to use a power washer in fear of damaging the fins. I kept a 12inch gap between the sprayer and the fins with a 90* sprayer nozzel.
    - I also purchased a 8k Midea U shaped AC unit for a spare bedroom from home Depot.
    So far owning for 1 week I'm extremely impressed. The 8k unit is almost silent. You can not even tell it is running. I think it is outperforming the GE unit so far hands down.
    With this new style Midea AC unit you can close your window almost 90% and and the unit sits between the window.
    It is suppose to be 16ceer/seer which the higher SEER rating the more electric you save. The GE we currently have I believe is a 9.8Ceer or close to it.
    So food for thought if your needing to eventually replace your GE.

    Thanks so much for posting this. I was getting ready to buy a new unit. Ran some water with the hose through the back and saw a ton of gunk falling. Started cooling right after that. Also had an E8 error code.

    Had the same model with the same error code happening for 2 months now during the hottest parts of the day. Was about to go drop 300 on a new unit, but saw this video and thought it's worth a shot to try and fix it up. One day later it's running as good as new again. Can't believe the amount of buildup that was on the inner fins of the external radiator. Took quite a bit of scrubbing, brushing and hosing. Anyways, thanks for the good video!

      Glad to hear man. They are super expensive. This is the 12,100 BTU I had a previous one for 4 years and never a issue. I think this is a new design flaw or possibly Midwest pollen or something. Mine is in the 2nd story window..no trees within 50+ ft

    • @N0DE86
      @N0DE86 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@WhiteGuysWRX I live in the middle of the forest here, definitely a mix of pollen, soil and bugs. I think the design is a bit flawed as there are lots of entry points on the top and sides, but very little drainage on the bottom. I'm no HVAC expert, but the L shape on the bottom of the radiator seems flawed as well as it just creates an area for build up. Either way tho, I'm just happy not to have to throw the thing out, can't stand the wastefulness of doing that.

    • @WhiteGuysWRX
      @WhiteGuysWRX  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@N0DE86 I agree 100%. I'm not sure if there is an exterior filter or wrap to put around the unit to prevent the buildup inside but I'm for sure looking. Lol. This unit lasted literally one summer until it got this clogged.

      @@WhiteGuysWRX I'm in NYC and the same thing began happening to my AC because they were doing construction outside the window and these idiots covered the top and side holes with plastic to stop debris from going in. Debris still went in AND the AC got overloaded and now I keep getting the E8. Need to clean the inside like you but only have my tiny bathtub to do it in and if I do then the bathtub will clog lol. Found this video through Reddit figuring out how to fix my GE E8 error code that kept coming back. Same model as this but in black also one year old.
    Was about to throw it away but ended up following this and found a THICK layer of dirt on the inside somehow after only one season of use from new.
    Cleaned it out and have had it running for last 5 hours with no code and it’s blowing super cold. Let’s hope it stays that way for this year atleast. None of my non GE window ACs have this issue though.
    Thanks

      I've had this unit now for the second year. I have had to clean it out now three times. I can tell it's getting dirty by my electric bill. You'll notice the $ amount go up about $50-$75 when it starts getting dirty because it never shuts off. Also I just had to replace the electric plug on it, the old one failed. They sell them on Amazon for about $20

      hey, thanks for the positivity. The unit is still working to this day. Just needs to be cleaned out once a year.
      I took the unit completely out of the window and sat it outside on my picnic table and my driveway for starters .
      When taking the unit out of your window, make sure you let it sit at an angle first because it is going to drain a bunch of water out depending on if you’re carrying it downstairs or whatever you just don’t wanna slip on the water .
      Once you get it outside, literally all you’re going to need is a Phillips screwdriver and a little bit of patience .
      It will come apart, pretty easily easily .
      I’m here if you need help, just holler

      Thank you, I ended up re-doing it again this year. I was able to take the center plastic area out with 3 hidden screws an a long screw driver. It allowed me to fully get into each corner an get the extra gunk out. Just be careful when doing this bc you risk breaking the parts to the condenser (I think?)
      Seems like a common issue in the Midwest never the less. Glad I could help! Thanks

    I have had this air conditioner for three years now; and latter this summer; I’m going to purchase the Soleus air conditioner; it’s a low profile air conditioner with one section in the room blowing the cool air; and the other half sits outside the window.
    It’s called a low profile air conditioner because it sits over the window sill but doesn’t block the window view like the standard window air conditioners!
    It’s going to cost me around $500 ; and the model that I will purchase has 6000 BTUs.

    • @WhiteGuysWRX

      I would return it, homedepot sells these units and Walmart. If purchased online both stores should give you in-store credit...even if you did not buy from them. (Say you lost reciepts)
      Chances are there's a electrical issue inside the unit if it's new and throwing the error.
      GE has a warranty option of 1 year I believe, if your not comfortable taking it back, possibly call their 1800 number and they may send someone out...but I have no idea their time frame or associated costs
      Just make sure the new unit you buy is around the same BTU 12,200

    This guy shows you the problem, but the solution is much easier than tearing it apart and manually cleaning it. Get two cans of automotive brake cleaner and go nuts, spraying it into the back fins, down by the fan and anywhere in between. It will dislodge and dissolve the dirt, gunk and goo without having to tear the unit apart. I just did this to my unit and it's now running like it's brand new. No E8 code and it's much colder.

      It will continue to pop the E8 even after resetting.

    • @WhiteGuysWRX
      @WhiteGuysWRX  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Once the metal case is off, you should be holding the garden hose or sprayer spraying the fins out probably a good 10 min minimum. You'll be able to see physically inside the plastic fan blades there's all sorts of dirt and gunk built up. Almost looks like wet dog hair after you give a dog a bath

      Yes my fan was spinning and the condenser was kicking on. My old unit the fan would not kick on unless I smacked it. I used WD-40 on it and that helped. Otherwise it just hummmmmmmed. I noticed it did that during the folder months. WD-40 and white grease helped a lot. White grease lasts so much longer.

    Window and ac unit problems happen more frequently because they change the laws on Freon. The old shit they used lasted longer but caused more pollution than the newer stuff they use.

      @WhiteGuysWRX  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@poetrynook962 Home Depot Walmart and Lowes sells a spray bottle and a can that says coil cleaner and it is for air-conditioning units you may be able to try this it is about five dollars a can and you spray it around the coil and what it is supposed to do is foam up and push the dirt out. My biggest concern with restarting it over and over is the energy bill because the unit is going to be constantly running. It got very annoying having to keep restarting it over and over throughout the night. If you use your garden hose on the outside of it make sure that you have it unplugged and spray the hose gently you do not need a strong spray so that you do not damage the coils because they are easy to damage
