I realize this is a 2 year old video, but just wanted to say thanks! Just got two units working top notch again. Even cut the shroud off one of them, and wouldn't have thought to do that without your help. You're the best!
I was literally about to buy a new AC today after losing my mind for ages trying to fix my AC. Thank you SO much for this video, I love you AC is running quieter than it has in years and cools perfectly now, I am so so so happy and grateful for you
Dude you totally saved me , our shop has been sooo hot.. a/c threw that code 2 months ago and google couldn't help me but you did today sir. Thank YOU!!!!
I don't have no chamber but I do have living room dining room area that was being cooled by a unit that now reads E8. We have or had (recently chopped down) a Cottonwood but I didn't think much of that until E8 entered my life. Most of the videos (this one included) mention that only a year had passed before issues arose. I naively thought that my unit was not clogged cause we bought it last year and this is the second season. It, however, wasn't cooling or working as it once did and with the recent heat wave we got the E8. Did I mention our unit is now displaying E8. For those who don't know this is the units way of saying, "I need a hot bath cause I am a crusty old crab." Anyway I used your method (waterless) and even used a hacksaw blade to remove that section of plastic to get to the fins that were covered. Mine were nasty and completely covered. Scrapped gently with a wire brush and used the vacuum cleaner with narrow extension to remove the dust and gunk I was picking off. Put it all back together and working like a charm. You would think the MFGs would make cleaning these puppies a bit easier. Lastly, I am not sure I would call yourself lazy. it took a lot of work removing that outer shell the way you did. I would lean towards: artist, genius, and maybe TH-cam sensation to describe how you are. Thanks for the help and tips to get my unit clean and ready to cool.
The cottonwood is a big problem on our central air. I planted boxwoods to help filter as well as putting a screen material around the unit. That is easier to clean.
Thanks, man. You saved me the cost of a new a/c. GE was just 3 years old when got the E8 code. Your cut along the plastic was more surgical than mine, but the gunk on the fins looked identical. Stiff toothbrush on a dowel pin did the trick--couldn't get anything bigger in there.
Wow! This is actually a GREAT DIY video for ANY wondow unit. THANKS for posting. Really , when cutting of the outside housing cover , if done carefully , after cleaning the condenser fins , you should be able to simply re-install the housing on the unit , and even screw it back down with 3-4 self tapping screws.
Just started happening to mine yesterday 👍 Thought maybe it was something with the board or something but after finding your video, figured I'd give it a shot? Not like it would hurt much...if it didnt work, I would have to buy a new one anyways? But worked like a charm and its cooling 10 times better than it was in the recent months
Do not pass GO. Do not collect $200. This is the way. I just did this to my Frigidaire 28k BTU air conditioner. It was a royal pain removing it from the wall but as soon as I saw the condition of the rear coil? Yeah. It needed cleaned. After cleaning & re-install, no more 'E8' error codes. Kudos!
Loved the intro, but ending a video about fixing an air conditioner with "gotta go inside bc it's hot!" did give me a good laugh-- I'm sure this solution will do the trick to my GE BTU 6,000 throwing E8 and will update if it fixes the issue. Thanks for the clear video, Keith!
I just figured this out today when I went outside and checked and found Zero air flow coming from the unit. I've had a E8 error for the last few months. I wound up splashing cold water from the outside of the coil and its amazing how much dirt I got out of it. Of course I've Googled those a few times and it never hinted at this problem.. only that I should unplug and plug it back in which does no good unless you clean that inner coil.. after the water splashes I did unplug and plug back in and now it works perfectly!! Thanks for posting this problem and a solution.. course I didnt cut my shroud off to clean it.. just wish manufacturers would install spray jets inside there so we could hook a garden hose to it incase we have this issue. Mine was cause because next door theres an apartment building going up and they been using alot of Concrete and im sure it's the Concrete dust getting in there... tell any construction people to use masks because that dust can be harmful to your lungs.. pass this info on!!
Thanks for your very detailed, helpful video. BUT, my GE AC is siliconed in the window. It was 108 today and 110 2 days ago. Is the ONLY way into the unit, from behind, having to cut all of that metal outside housing and all of the inside apart??
Thank you for the help, I live on the third floor of my building so taking it out my window and finding a place to clean it down stairs was going to be my very last option, so I tried the unplug and turn off 5 min option which of course didn’t work, so one day and a $300 chiropractor bill later your video did the trick thanks 😂
My GE is now showing that E8 after 3yrs of over 100 digit temp in Vegas, and it's already showing this in June😢 I'm going to try your method before buying another one which has to cost the same or less than a repairman visit thanks!
Thank you much, I will Certainly try this. It's like these a/c's know when to act up, I have Zero tolerance for heat, and my a/c isn't old enough to start trippin' the 2nd day of summer. Thank you much, please be well🤲🏾🌻.
@charitywattenburger4550 - Yes, that is the only way without un-installing the unit. Otherwise, you have to cut the silicone, pull the unit, take off the side fins, take off the upper track for the side fins, then finally get to your 3 sides of cover panel screws.
May sound like a dumb question but…is this from the inside portion of the window unit or the outside? Not sure my unit gives me access to the coils quite as easily as yours does. Don’t really want to take it apart
The code showed up on a brand new unit for me. There isn’t any dirt or crude covering it. The condenser coil over heats and shuts down and have to reset it constantly. Kind of a pain in the ass to deal with.

Thank you so much!! Bought this unit for $200 today and when I got home it instantly had the E8 code. Fixed it in about 25 minutes. Hats off to you!
That is great! Glad I could help.

They make it hard so you call them for service or buy a new one

Its cotton wood blowing around season. Mine will probably do it again soon.

The window unit in my kids bedroom went out a couple days ago and your fix worked perfectly. Thanks man I appreciate it.
Good to hear it worked for you
The one video that explains this well. Thank you 🙏
THANK YOU for this video! Every other post/video says wash it out with water but this really shows the true problem and solution.
And it actully works!
IT'S ALIVE!!!!! THANK YOU! Very helpful!
Thank you Farer Keith, you saved me from buying a new AC unit.

Otimo video
Obrigado 🫂
🇧🇷
Thanks very informative
When the error code came up, did anyone's ac repeatedly beep and all button lights turn on then turn off?
Thanks. 😀

I would return it. Sounds like a faulty unit
I took a pressure washer to mine, seems to have worked.
Gooooood video short sweet to point!!!!iiii
Now I wish someone would post a video of how to take it apart correctly.
All of the screws around the bottom of the unit and front panel.
Nice rooster in the bushes.
Well, gotta get the A/C unit apart and see if can make it work.
Thanks
Just had to do another one yesterday. Took a lot more brushing and clearing but got it to work!
So what your tell me is just buy a new one ? Got it
As Steve Harvey says “It’s a goot one”.
