This is the closest I have ever come to an explanation of changing the name of the Model T. To most of the public I think it was only a name.

GM was doing the same thing with its' "model names" at that time. Ads would only call it "Chevrolet" or "The New Chevrolet", the only place on the car itself a model name would appear would be on the firewall plate, and it'd be in the parts and service books. It wasn't a part of a car's marketing identity, just a way to disambiguate from earlier and later models in the shop. That started to change when Chevy went to the Standard and Master models and Ford started putting more differences than just trim to the Standard and DeLuxe lines in the mid '30s but it wouldn't be until the '80s that the full-size cars fully stopped using a different model name for each trim level.

Your channel is exceptional and always informative, but i must take some exception with the fact that no mention was made of Edsel Ford's influence in getting the Model A off the drawing board and into production. It is true that Henry Ford was adamant in his opposition to a replacement for the Model T, but it should be noted that the iconic Model A would not have taken its place in Ford's history had it not been for Edsel.

Edsel absolutely was the person who got Henry to abandon the Model T and without him we wouldn't have the Model A. He was also the chief designer of the bodies while Henry focused on the drive train. No slight was intended by not mentioning Edsel in this video. That being said we've debated putting together a video on the development of the Model A and perhaps it is time to do. Thanks for watching!

You're right about Edsel's influence, but this video focused on the new name, not the development of the car. Another great video.

@@mafcawebmaster4237 You're right about the focus of the video. I sometimes find myself getting defensive of Edsel since his influence at Ford during this time is so often overlooked. With apology.

I think Ford should have kept the "T" style transmission in the A model...
