This song alone justifies the triple album. It’s everything a good song can ever be. Thought provoking, well produced, well written, well performed, and just rocks. I’ve listened to it for decades now and I still love it.

This is the first album that Paul played using only finger plucking. He literally learned how to finger pluck in two months while making this album to get that “less than crisp sound” for the album that Joe and Mick wanted from Paul compared to the “pick sound” that was used previously by Paul.

It’s way up there. The thing is that its really hard to pick a favorite, but I’ll say this. If someone wants to know why the clash is one of the best bands of all time, Washington bullets it’s a prime example. It’s like this crazy party that sucks you in, but has a much more important message than any party anthem. That’s the clash in a nutshell

As a middle and high school Modern World History teacher, I have used the content of this song as the context of several units of instruction before- (as well as the basis for corresponding essays written and final exams taken by-) my students in class. It adds the icing to the cake of worldly historical awareness.

This album came out when I was 13. I had no idea who Victor Jara was (since I'm an American), but I knew Joe wasn't singing about Washington Bullets because they were friendly and nice. The Clash sang about stuff they never taught me in school and shaped my politics for life. This song (and many others) are still relevant to this day. So glad to hear their music is still teaching kids about the world like it did me.

Well... Musically totally ok, not fantastic, but ok. When it came, absolutely a new angle to old punk. But, the lyrics are really more naive than is really ok. Back then, maybe we thought the world was like this, but, now, really, guys! Chile was going bankrupcy, Allende tried to take over in a classical Putin/socialistic/antiliberal way. The military answer had to come, and really saved the country from even worse repression. And, sandinista, jeesus, Nicaragua. And Cuba. Come on! This naivity is really something extra.
Ultimate proof: anyone think a band with those lyrics would have survived a week in; Russia?; Soviet?; Cuba?; Nicaragua?; Allende Chile?; and so on. And more to it, professionally, musically, etc, how come those countries/systems don't breed any musical (or other) creativity at all? Guys, come on...!

I think they were just pointing out the Fascism and Nazism that goes on all over the world, all the time. It's nothing new. I honestly think Joe was being somewhat
sarcastic with the Sandinista call outs. Everybody thinks they're going to fight off the bad guys but it's harder when the USA or Russia or China is backing them!
I really don't think The Clash were that naive. I think you're misunderstanding this song. The Sandinistas turned out to be total clowns, of course.
