my fav from Sandinista! My beloved band. Crazy for them. I was only 17 when I met The Clash: big concert in Florence (Italy). A great love born. THE CLASH FOREVER!
I love the experimental angle of this whole album, heard it described as 'too long' and 'messy' but i wouldn't change a thing and i don't think they would either!
These sentient people WERE WAY,,,WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to far AHEAD of time, That phrase "boogaloo" = used in the BREAKDANCE film in 1984,a ELECTRIC BOOGALOO= damn the CLASH was doing this in 1980!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On the MAGNIFICENT 7 tune,,,,,WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY AHEAD!!!!!!!! 42 YEARS AHEAD!!!!
Back in the 80's I probably played the 3 disc Sandanista album 1000's of times. Even now, the tunes come back to my head - I will find myself singing these songs out of nowhere. One of the really fine collection of tunes ever - and back then the 3 record set cost something like $8.99! The liner notes/art with allt he lyrics are awesome also - you just don't find this type of stuff these days.
The highest compliment I can pay this song is that I got the album today and listened to the whole fabulous thing, and thing after 2+ hours spanning six sides, when it ended this was the ONE song I played again. Why? not sure! It's not the best on the record. It's kinda great tho. Yup.
Down the road came a Junco Partner Boy, he was loaded as can be He was knocked out, knocked out loaded He was a'wobblin' all over the street Singing 6 months ain't no sentence Yeah, and one year ain't no time I was born in Angola Serving 14 to 99 Well I wish I had me one million dollars One million to call my own I would raise me, and say, "grow for me baby" Raise me a tobacco farm Take a walk, Take a walk, Junco Partner Well, when I had me a great deal of money Yeah, I had mighty good things all over town Now I ain't got no more money All of my good friends just put me down So now I got to pawn my ratchet and pistol Yeah I'm gonna pawn my watch and chain, chain, chain I would have pawned my sweet Gabriella But the smart girl she wouldn't sign her name Down the road, down the road came a Junco Partner Boy, he was loaded as can be He was knocked out, knocked out loaded. Loaded, loaded, loaded, loaded He was a'wobblin' all over the street Take a walk, (Take a walk, take a walk) I can't walk Down the road, down the road came a Junco Partner 'Hey, Mister', he called out to me And it was three things he shattered Singing, singing cocaine Got as guilty as it can go Oh, Junco Partner Well I'm down, yes I'm getting thirsty Oh a mighty good beer, when I'm dry Just, just give me whisky, when I'm thirsty Give me headstone when I die. Down the road.
[20 February 2023] A daring cover, to be sure. And I appreciate the reggae sound they bring to (what was originally) an old American blues song (apparently first written and recorded by James Waynes in 1951. But I must confess, I don't think it can hold a candle to Doctor John's version - off his 1972 album DOCTOR JOHN'S GUMBO - which, for me, will always be the definitive version. It's somehow loucher, looser and greasier than the Clash could ever be.
La versión de The Clash es más creativa e ingeniosa. Juegan con más elementos, saben dar la vuelta a los ritmos originales y los arreglos (ese vibráfono...wow) la hacen UNICA. Pero la versión de Dr. Jhon es también muy buena.
interesting that they cleaned up the lyrics. maybe back in the 80s it was too risky to do anything but Just Say No. Hmmm, there were lots of versions. First recorded 1951 but maybe was around before then? Anyway, heres the lyric that seems most avoided --> Give me whiskey When I get a little frisky It's a mighty good drink When you get a little dry Give me reefer When I get a little sickly But give me a little heaven (heroin) Before I die

@@stephencarey2354 I agree...I mean it's a very good Punk Rock album, but I liked I think Give Em Enough Rope was way better...My favorites are definitely Sandinista, London Calling and Combat Rock...all three are unique masterpieces
Always in love with this album since 40 years... Now i 'm ready for a punk reggae party and to watch "Rude Boy" the movie !
My first LP. A Christmas present from my mum. 40 odd years ago. Still bloody brilliant. Ivan Meets G.I.Joe and Junco Partner. All of them! Brilliant!
Check out Chuck Berry. He has a song that has the lyric about junco partner.
Your mum had great taste, and must have been a realist too. Thanks, for reminding me of a special woman too. You rock.

Self indulgent was the phrase used against it 41 years ago. Does it matter, NOW? No.

It's probably my favorite, although they're all good!
Couldn’t agree more
I like it a lot.
Miss you Joe 💖💖
I bought this album as a thank you to my mate for being my best man and 5 years later he bought it for me for being his love the Clash 😂
Unique album. Today again. 💪
This song shows the deep connections between New Orleans R&B and Jamaican reggae.
??? bizarre

Down the road came a Junco Partner
Boy, he was loaded as can be
He was knocked out, knocked out loaded
He was a'wobblin' all over the street
Singing 6 months ain't no sentence
Yeah, and one year ain't no time

Well I wish I had me one million dollars
One million to call my own
I would raise me, and say, "grow for me baby"
Raise me a tobacco farm
Take a walk, Take a walk, Junco Partner
Well, when I had me a great deal of money
Yeah, I had mighty good things all over town
Now I ain't got no more money
All of my good friends just put me down
So now I got to pawn my ratchet and pistol
Yeah I'm gonna pawn my watch and chain, chain, chain
I would have pawned my sweet Gabriella
But the smart girl she wouldn't sign her name
Down the road, down the road came a Junco Partner

Take a walk, (Take a walk, take a walk)
I can't walk
Down the road, down the road came a Junco Partner
'Hey, Mister', he called out to me
And it was three things he shattered
Singing, singing cocaine
Got as guilty as it can go
Oh, Junco Partner
Well I'm down, yes I'm getting thirsty
Oh a mighty good beer, when I'm dry
Just, just give me whisky, when I'm thirsty
Give me headstone when I die.
Down the road.
