I directed a neighboring band at Oceanside High School from 1971-1981. In 1978 I was on sabbatical, beginning a doctorate with Eugene Corporon at Northern Colorado. The Vista HS Band was legendary, and I learned a lot from Don Lauder, Harold Warman and Patricia Hoy. Thanks for posting this video!
Hello Wendy and yes I remember you. I kept playing trumpet for two years into college. I later played the trumpet at the Chargers game in the parking lot to get the fans pumped up by playing "charge". Now the horn collects dust and I bust it out occasionally at the Chargers games. The Rose Parade was off the hook as were many of the band trips. Last I heard, Harold Warman was at San Diego State and Pat Hoy was at Northern Arizona State as music directors.
Thanks for converting the film and posting. Brings good memories. Last played in the '73 VHS band, under Mr. Don Lauder. Would love to see a clip from that year too. He, the dignified British uniforms, and the thematically related authentic pipe and drum corps gave us such a touch of class; and we had more than a few excellent musicians!
Hey Tony - Were were in band together although I left after Warman. Played for 15 years in a community band. Still have my flute and about 40 others from around the world. I also still have my patches from when we played in the Rose Parade. Wendy (Foster)
The name of this march, the most famous in France is "Sambre et Meuse". The "French antional Defile" is an other one with a different tune. Anyway, this marching band is superb. Congratulatios from Paris.

Thank you for posting this. I was in the 1976 band and have been looking for some kind of recording to remember how fun those days were.

I'm in there somewhere.....We called it simply "French National." Played it so many times we could sing the other parts.

In the United States the march is known as the French National Defile even though the original title is "Le Regiment de Sambre et Meuse".
Hibriten High Band, Lenoir, NC played this selection in the 1976 NC Band Festival.
