Buckarpp543--I used to show this to my second grade class of inner city ghetto/barrrio students every St. Patrick's Day (we weren't allowed to have parties). Those little guys would be out on the blacktop trying to emulate the dancers. When Flatley produced "Lord of the Dance", I added that to end of year celebration. The students wanted more--so I added "Cats" to their end of year celebrations. After the giggling over the unitards ended, they were spellbound by the athletics of those dancers, too.

Yep, but when you get to this level your legs and feet can take quite the beating. Rehearsal takes hours. You dance with the troup, you eat with the troup, you sleep with the troup, you live as a troup.
Those are called hard shoes, heavy shoes or Jig shoes. The shoes have two parts, called 'heel' and 'tip'. Those two parts are made out of resin, which can be reinforced with glass-fibre. It are those parts that generate the sound when you hit the floor. The tips and heels can be reinforced with glass-fibre to make more noise on hitting the floor or eachother (heels and heels are clicked together as well, just like the tips) About joining them: don't let a professional level stop you from dreaming. When I was a kid, I had a dream of doing just this. It was next to impossible back then, but in 2011 I took a try-out class of Irish dance: at age 23. 7 years later I'm still at it and I cannot count how many times I have gotten to (and passed) the point of 'i'll never master this, it's too complicated' when the teacher showed me something I have toe dance and I could just gaze in awe as it seems so complicated. I won't lie: Irish dance is not easy and if you're not that sporty, you will feel the result of your workout the day after, but one who doesn't try, fails anyway. Our oldest class-member is in her 50's and though she is not training for competitions, she is still dancing at quite a high level. My advice, (if you have the chance) GO FOR IT!

The biggest mistake, not thought out, is the fact that the performers are not ranked by height. For example the highest in the middle, and continue by lowest on both sides, until the end. Their uneven heights makes the show a little chaotic and unsynchronized. This is an important detail !!!! The show is legendary but lacks the perfection it could have had!
