Good guide to a job that seems a lot easier than you might think it is. 8 bolts, one electrical connector and some clips on parts to release and only 2 tools! Very helpful.
Awesome, thanks guys for the simple to follow guide. I replaced my hood with a later hood with a glass window. The retaining bolts did take a bit of time to align, but other than that pretty straightforward.
Thanks for the informative video. My 1998 also had two phillips screws on each side in addition to the three bolts. Also a switch attached to top by a torx screw.
Hi, would you be able to make a video on how to remove and reinstall the convertable top transmission. In particular how to make sure it's adjusted properly and how to make sure the gears are in the right position when reinstalling.
Great job guys. You made it look very simple, which it is once you see it done. Thank you 👍 That middle, recessed bolt is a hard one to do. Need a long socket 😉
There are 2 more small, black Philips screws on each side and one more sensor on driver side held with T15 screw. That was on 98 manual base Boxster anyway. Video was helpful nevertheless, thank you!
Do you happen to know if these same steps would be used on a 2004 996? It seems as though it should be the same/similar. I’m looking to replace my entire convertible assembly with another used, different cover top. Mine has a rear glass window. Great video!!!
good video, I think my passenger side (left hand drive) Transmission motor has failed so it only rotates on the driver side. Do you think undoing that 10mm bolt as in your vid will be a good idea to test it or what should i Check? Thanks
Hello, very good video and well explained, I replaced with your video an original hood of a 98 for one also original of 2003 and now the metal lid does not close as if it were thicker when closing, they tell me that they are compatible, you Did you change any of those models? or do you know if they are actually compatible? thanks and greetings from Spain
Hi! There are two elastic lines with plastic hook attached to the soft top lining, one on each side, near the roll bar. Do you know where they are attached to?
I can't get the damn sensor unclipped. The wires coming out from underneath the scensor are getting in the way, plus the metal frame of the top itself just beneath where the scensor is clipped in. Those are both in the way, the clip will not budge when I pull down on it
Only once I'd smashed it out did I notice the small tab/latch at the top that needs to be pushed to one side while pulling from underneath. Dumb thing was the hardest part of the job. Eventually I chiseled it out as it appeared to be a plug going into the back of an unused socket, rear glass demister? I can't imagine regretting it.
Wish you would have mentioned and shown the B-pillar Microswitch that also needs to be detached before sliding the top out. It's located on the driver side. You need to pop off the smaller corner panel behind the driver seat, remove the 1 screw and pop it out. Otherwise, you'll end up breaking it off like I did. You can not see this switch at all unless the panel is removed to expose it.

After two years of searching for one locally, I finally found a hard top! I'm removing my soft top permanently and this is a great video!

LOL! You're welcome!

When we get another Boxster in that we plan on keeping together instead of parting out, we can make that happen.

Ty, replacing mine this weekend.
Awesome video!!
What is the sensor @4:25 it doesnt seem to actually connect to anything
For the rear screen de mister if you have a glass one.
Replacing the top you will want it in the exact same partially retracted angle in order to attach to the motor correctly right?
Great video!
Hi do you have any vids or info on how to adjust the push rods
Regards Terry
Do you have a video of putting back seatbelt on passenger side. Porsche 986

THANK YOU
My plastic window was missing on one i bought and didnt feel like shelling out 2K for a new one

What was the connector you unplugged ?
You ever figure this out? Might doesnt seem to hook back up to anything
Great video, thanks
Please make a similar video for a 996!
We just missed the opportunity on a 2000 911 Cabrio we just parted out, but definitely for the next one!
Good job
It is the same for a 987 boxster?

I couldnt either had to take off the plastic panel with carpet on it behind the seat
Use a nice sharp Rambo knife
