Thank you for doing this. Took me about 12 hours to complete but never would have done it without this video. I did cut a little too much off the corners but I got it tucked in with some extra care. Also, because I could see the end result I sped up my removal with a razor. Cut the whole top off the. The parts were easier to see.
This is an outstanding video. I was able to replace my top by watching, pausing, and rewinding. It wasn't easy, but I got it done. The other videos on how to do this are nowhere near as a good, I really appreciate that you took the time to make this.
This was a super impressive "tutorial" in fact it makes me want to sell my car by the pound. I can not repair watches, nor will I live another 20 years, so you have most definitely convinced me to glue or sew a replacement window. Thank you forever for not making my repair the last thing I do in life. Fantastic and un paralleled video.
Great 2 part video. Made the install so much easier! The directions I downloaded from Auto Tops Direct were OK but lacked in the tips, clarity and walk through of these videos. Thanks!
Thank you very much for making and posting this video. I could not have done it without this video. I purchased a different top than you and the directions were mediocre. I followed your video. Top was $329, $41 for tape and glue and 9 hours of my labor. It really came out great. Thanks again for the video.
Great video....like the 986 series and hope to see more. How does the 987 boxster differ? Im going to be starting this project soon on my 2005. Thanks!
We’re u able to find that pice on top of roof top that u had to glue together with fiber glass mines comply broken and trying to find one is has become challenging
Steven - I know this is 7 years old but I'm in Houston as well, and i was wondering if there is any chance you guys offer help to locals (if I brought the car to you). Or would you do a top swap for a charge? I'm new to the Boxster as this is my Daughter's car and close to a project car. If you don't want to mess with it, is there anyone in town you recommend. I'm out I-10 West at the Betway. Thanks!!
I'm using this to do my 996. I'll add comments for any differences as I go. For the first rubber portion you take of the front, the 996 does have 2 size screws, a T15 and T20s, there are a total of 8 T20s and 6 T15s down the side.
Nevermind, they are similar, but there are so many additional steps on the 996 that this would become its own post and video. This video above was great as a guideline and saved me quite a bit of pain, so thank you for that.
Is there a way to just buy a top that can be full assembled then simply put on the car, after removing the old one? Or do you have to patch a new one into the existing frame? Like how you've done in this video
great video. i am in the middle of this right now, when i removed old top(replaced before i got it) i found the seal you call a support seal in the rear that goes under the top around the back is missing. any idea how to source one or just skip it????
Dalis, honestly, it has been a really long time since I did this project. I don’t even recall the seal you reference. That stated, it’s generally not a good idea to skip it. If there is a seal there it is a good idea to continue having a seal there to keep out moisture, water, etc. you may have to do a little bit of digging online to find a picture or part number of the seal. Junkyard is probably not a reasonable source as it will have been in the sun and the weather forever.
@@stevenbukoski4474 i appreciate the reply. i have already done all that. no luck. 9:04 in part two you reinstalled it. said not to put any sealer on it. goes under the top material. mine is just not there. i think i will have to skip it if i cant even name it. it wasnt instelled last time so what can i do.
Cambiar a español Hello Steven, I'm looking for the plate you show in the minute, 7:40 the one that joins the soft top with the frame. You know where I can buy it.
Hey man, I just got a beautiful Porsche boxter 986 ,1999 model. Are there any differences in repealing a Porsche boxter s and Porsche boxter convertible top? Best, Maik
@@roaringtigersgarage4672 thanks for the quick answer. Sorry for the typo but you get where i was going at! Thanks ! I am not sure if I can repair it myself, I don’t have any of those tools. How many days did it take you to get the roof fixed ? It seems like it took at least 3 days or so.?! Do you think it’s worth buying the roof myself and going to a repair service to get it fixed ? I probably save some money by being able to decide which quality roof I want and I avoid any upcharges from the “fixing place” regarding the roof ..?
@@BerinMaik Plan on 2 days. Take your time and don't rush it (this is good advice for any car maintenance/repair). It did take me 3 days because of the repairs I had to make to the plastic bits (reinforcement and epoxy. want to be sure epoxy is fully cured before it is stressed).

Great Video. The details and tips helped me to change out my top on my 1998 Boxster. Had very little issues and it turned out amazing. Thank you.

Great video. Well explained instructions and important pointers. Looking forward to part 2. Thank you.
I cannot thank you enough for these videos!! So appreciated!
Thanks for the informative display of lesson and repair ...
That plug for defrost is there for the cars that came with a hardtop. Our 1997 986 had a hardtop with defrost.

I’m debating on weather or not I’m capable of doing this myself or taking it to the shop

I am about to embark on this task with an RS60 Spyder. How similar are the 986 and 987 tops to remove and replace? Many thanks!!
Great video man thanks 🍻
what was that piece he took off the storage top when he first started...sounded like plastic ferries...
So three years later, how did the top from AutoTopsDirect hold up?
14:48 were you able to find a plastic bracket that goes on top of the rooftop mines is broken. I can’t seem to find anywhere to replace that part.

Neil, thank you for the inquiry. Sorry, no video on this topic.
I live in Houston just got the top in the mail what would you charge me to install it
Free. Send it over.

Hi, wondering if someone could recommend a shop to fix the convertible top of my Boxster S 2006 in Houston area?
Recommend talking with Einar's Garage and Rennsport
Good video very clear cheers
I’ve done at least 50 boxier tops and tou don’t need to take the rear bonnet off
True. But it gives you a lot more room to work for a rather minimal 3 bolts per side.🤷🏻♂️

The process and materials is exactly the same for any version of 986. Likely the same for 987 as well
