Omar Rangel new beat - toro y moi kimbra - love in high places pyramid - frank ocean some of my favorite lyrics in frank oceans work for sure. he does lots of rnb and writes for justin beiber regularly. he is also in OWGKTA so quite a diverse guy
Omar Rangel Okay. Rihanna - Diamonds (It's about Rihanna's grandmother.) Sia - Ellastic Heart (It's about Sia fighting with depression.) Sia - Chandelier (Relationship with alcohol.) Kwabs - Walk (Leaving the past behind and moving on.) Basically every song by Twenty One Pilots This was it for now, it's not that much, because I don't like pop (I prefer Suicide Silence, thanks), but I can look up more good pop music, or even dubstep and rap if you want me to. It just annoys the hell out of me how people generalize every single genre into one word and can't accept that every genre has their own treasures and weaknesses, because these kind of thoughts lead to constantly judging people, which I hate the most in this f*cked up Earth. Metalheads are easily angered by called satanists and evil, and yet they are the first to sh*t on your face and say what the 'true', 'REAL' metal is. Come on people. Life gets so much better when you stop hating on pop music for no actual reason.
One biggest reasons why I started to listen metal, are mostly bcs of lyrics. Firstly, band members write lyrics for their band, and pop "let's call it artists" let other people to write their songs. And it's stupid to say that metal lyrics are mostly satanic, many bands(not every) have word of wisdom. And if you read few lyrics of metal songs, and if you have just a little bit of brain, you will understand the meaning. And I laughed so much on that part when you started to recite: plane, train,grenade... xD
And I forget it to say about that part where you're saying how pop fans thinks that metal is most about satanism,corpse,death,etc... Well, I think that pop songs like Grenade,is about how guy will go to death,or become a corpse for one girl, whatever. But that's not bullshit,if Bruno Mars can respawn, after swallowing grenade,or jump front of train,or whatever.
Strange, I like a lot of 60's and 70's music. I even like some songs of Daft punk, some classical music. The best music for me is just the music I like.
When I played Onslaught-Born for war on my cellphone,a guy asked me why do I listen to stuff like this-meaningless,etc blabla. Than I've shown him lyrics of that song. Now he's into Overkill,Pantera etc. There's hope for this world.
+Alex Root Don't forget to mention that these songs are popular for having only a catchy beat to them, while only taking them a month or less to come up with a song. A good metal or rock band would not come out with a good album or a song years later. They would put more effort into their songs than pop artists.
Metalforlife thats just one of the many reasons why ive always liked metal/rock is it takes a band made up of several people to make it sound good there has to be alot of communication between the members, where as if i went out and asked someone "hey can you name the people who made the instrumental for the new drake song" they would have no idea, only whoever was singing
Many artists don`t even create their own songs or lyrics. Just add voice, auto tune and or simple beat to the song and you have another hit. It is more business rather than entertainment
I dont have a problem with people who likes pop music. what I have a problem with is that most of the pop musician today dont have anything to do with their songs. the record companies writes their lyrics and music, some time even adjust their voice with the computer, and all they have to do is to stand there look pretty and do what they are told to do. about the lyrics. most pop hit songs today, the one that are played in MTV etc.., have a very similar lyrics because thats what catches. if you want MTV to play your song it has to be by their terms of how the song should be. but... even in old rock and blues songs they sing about the same things. Hendrix, led zeppeline have a lot of songs about a women or sex. I just like those songs more because I like things that were play mostly on instruments and by a band of equal people, not by a singer and a bunch of players that no one knows there name and just sit in the back while the singer gets all the appreciation. that why I like metal music more, song that are played by a band of equals where every one is appreciated.
Yeah, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Infant Annihilator, Abominable Putridity, Cock And Ball Torture, Devourment , Cattle Decapitation etc.. are so Damn Meaningful. I Understood your point of view, but I'd rather say that MOST Metal has 'meaningful' lyrics, but not all.
Death, later The Faceless, Opeth, post Heartwork-era Carcass, early In Flames, Misery Index, Nile, Rings of Saturn, At The Gates etc. all have pretty interesting lyrics for different reasons. People need to be exposed to lyrics like that before they can talk shit about a whole genre - I don't talk shit about all of rap or all of pop, so why do people do the same with other genres? Blergh.
Obscura got some great lyrics about space and philosophy, also new politically themed Kreator rules (Mille's got some impressive writing skills I think), Behemoth (not that stereotype satanism thing), Ahab (seafaring and whaling), Nile, Ex Deo, Rotting Christ (Egyptian/Roman/Greek history/mythology) or even As I Lay Dying (Christian, but not evangelizing)...not to mention Iron Maiden of course, with their very broad spectrum of lyrical themes (history, films, literature, religion etc.). Maybe that's the quality of metal lyrics in general and the most fundamental difference to pop lyrics: its topical variety, which also include the "dark" and "occult" aspects of our world (war, death, mind control, extremism, crime, suicide, mythology, violence, destruction, horror, insanity etc.). Those things are excluded in the biggest part of pop music, it's some kind of whitewash to me, for life isn't only about sex, love, party, dancing or showing off with luxury goods. But to look beyond that you've got to take a minute and use your brain - which most people don't seem to have the time, motivation or capabilites for.
You're definitely right, Death Metal (or Extreme Metal in general?) is very nihilistic, at least the vast majority of songs. And trying to imagine someone like Rihanna, James Blunt or Katy Perry singing about such "dark" things...yeah well, you already named it: ridiculously offensive and insincere. Besides that I don't think that pop music defines pop themes, I guess it's the other way around: songs about "positive" topics like love, party etc. become popular and thereby pop music. Back in time artists like The Doors, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones have been pop music, and they definitely covered a much wider scope of topics than today's pop musicians. Times have changed I guess, capitalism and consumption now dominate the western world, leaving most people no time or motivation to deal with the "dark" sides of our world and souls.
Marco Camargo I've already pointed this out to many people hahah, there's actually A lot of pop artists (only in the last 2-3 years.) who have pentagrams in their videos, it's for "shock" value which is VERY ironic because they condemn Death metal bands for the same thing.... when death metal bands never really utilized satanic lyrics and rarely imagery. To be fair to them Thrash metal was filled with satanic crap in the 80s as well as Black metal in the MID 90s (after the media had black metal everywhere.) but it's the same thing except their not playing metal music.
I'm not a fan of metal music but wow do I respect this dude. He talks through an objective perspectives about lyrics between different genres and I really like that, his use of cuss words even sounds formal to be honest. What a fan of music you, continue making videos like these man!
Agreed! There are seemingly loads of people pointing their fingers at song’s meanings before even trying to relate to the lyrics themselves, and I think it becomes a problem as soon as they start judging people just because their preferences of music doesn’t speak to them. And even in the metal community (usually consisting of really open minded ppl) - there are metal heads who sadly would never admit to listening to anything ”soft”. It’s just silly. Obviously the only ”good songs/lyrics” are the ones that speak to you as an individual, and all people are different. Thank you for awesome content as usual, CHEERS \m/
From my expirience metal has really meaningfull lyrics, i listened to classic heavy metal, power metal, speed metal, thrash metal, death metal. Lets take Death for example, try listening to some songs from the Human or Symbolic album for example, or Testament or Slayer or whatever, they are far more intelectual than any music i ever heard.
In what I've seen, any genre of music can have both meaningful and stupid lyrics. Rap (although I hate rap in general) can have intelligent lyrics, and metal can have meaningless lyrics like "I sneak in my own house, it's four in the morning, I had too much to drink, said I was out with the boys", or "Breaking the law, breaking the law!". Metal may have more creative and interesting lyrics than other genres, but not necessarily more meaningful (at least not MORE meaningful than other genres.). Although I agree with your mention of Symbolic. That album is pure poetry. "Take part in a diminishing breed, where complex turns to simplicity, when pain is acknowledged, frivolous calculations will be abolished." Oh man, just saying those words are awesome!
I agree that most mainstream songs on the radio have no meaning, but I think it would be ignorant to say that metal is the only genre to have meaningful lyrics. Though it does have some of the deepest
not all pop songs are bad, i mean, just as much as heavy metal, i like Micheal Jackson songs, he wrote some meaningful lyrics. but your right, most heavy metal song do have a meaning and only metalheads understand it deeply, and yes i have seen only a very FEW metal lyrics are unmeaningful.
over the years of having to listen to my mums pop music there actually are alot of artists out there that have amazing voices. only problem is there songs sound like poop and are ruined by multiple things. But most pop these days is just garbage.
I listen to both Hip-Hop and Metal and a mix of the both Genres and I really can't listen to Black and Death Metal not because the growling but because there something that is not there for me so I decid to look deep at literally everything in a band or artist so now I only listen to a handful of bands and artists
Every time I'm done recording a song/cover for my new album (coming November 1st, sorry, gotta get it out there), I come here to watch your videos for entertainment value and basically kills my leisure time in an informative/theoretical way.
great words. another thing people seem to not get is that there is more to the lyrics then what you hear, literature often has forms of symbolism in it and I think sometimes people take it to literally when they first hear the words before they think about it deeper.
Musicians don't write lyrics we write music. Poets write lyrics, not to say that some musicians aren't also poets that are capable of writing their own meaningful lyrics. But when people judge a song or genre on their lyrical content that same argument can be made for any genre. Music should be judged on its complexity, talent, memorably, and not quite the meaningfulness of its lyrics. The reason why pop sucks is because it lacks complexity, and talent, but excels in memorably with simple rhythm and easy words that people can sing along and dance to. If you used the words from a pop song but changed the music to something complex and talentful, and change the way the lyrics are sung you could still have a kick ass song with the same lyrics. I'm not trying to say lyrics aren't important in a song but they should probably be the last thing to judge.
Dude, this is the second video I watch of your channel, it appeared as a suggestion and I loved it, apart from the fact that your cd collection is amazing and blew my shit away, you are a good example of what a metalhead should be, objective but openminded (in my opinion of course, I dont mean to start any nasty fights jaja), and obviously I am now a subscriber.
I'm also a fan of death but I would really like to see some more thrash too :) Since I've watched the Essence video, I'm really a big fan of theirs. Keep up the good work!
Hey man. I never usually listen to people on TH-cam, but I stumbled upon this through a Psytopus video and ended up watching the whole way through. I really like the way you tell stories, and the flipping between "You're obviously entitled to your own opinion, man" and "Actually this is bullshit". I'll check out your previous videos for some recommendations. Stay brutal yourself.
Pop music is meaningful, and the lyrics are meaningful, but in my opinion, in a very generic way. Pop music is made, or manufactured, even, to appeal to mass audiences. That being said, it's easy to become a popular musician these days. Basically, you need a decent voice, a catchy tune that will be easily remembered, and lyrics that are vaguely artistic and relate-able. That's my opinion, I guess.
The problem is that their lyrics are 95% based on love, love, love and nothing else where every songs are identical they sings the easiest feeling to have. No imagination at all so in my opinion no talent.
I don't consider love to be a bad subject to sing about, plenty of metal songs theme it as well. Mostly my problem is that a lot of pop artists seem to dumb down their lyrics to appeal to mass consumption, even though the artists themselves seem like smart enough and creative enough people to reach a far higher standard of lyrics. To me music is still art and shouldn't suffer in quality just because a lot of people are unable to understand it else. On a side note, sadly plenty of metal bands have uncreative, meaningless or simply bad lyrics too. Why sing about something if you have nothing to say?.. It's not a phenomenon found only in pop music, though more common there
buckley is great but theyre both completely different.just a note for people expecting to find a similar type of discussion on adoseofbuckley's channel, you wont
S4ndpitTurtle They weren't and were completely wrong. He got some parts right, but that was mostly parts that goes for all fanbases. He clearly hadn't done enough research on the topic. There's a metalhead that actually replied to adoseofbuckely explaing exactly why it's wrong, just search up adoseofbuckley metal and you'll find the reply by the metalhead as well...
Hey, Infidel! You should do a series reading metal lyrics! I recently watched The Pathologist's Report which had Jeff Walker reading Carcass lyrics and they were very enjoyable. Growled vocals can be hard to understand for new listeners of metal.
Funny stuff! Keep it up! I think it was so entertaining just cause a lot of us can relate to the situation. I just want to add that there is cool meaningful music in every genre if one is willing to dig deep enough. For example, in rap, look up Scroobius Pip - Thou shalt always kill.
Haha, if somebody says Metal lyrics are just about Satan or whatever, I just show them some Metal lyrics and let them compare it with the lyrics from the song "Whistle" by Flo Rida. Then they're quiet.
The meaning one can find in song lyrics is completely subjective. Some people are raised on pop, some on metal, classic rock, country, punk, hip-hop, folk, etc. Why is it that we think just because someone hasn't been exposed to a certain type of music that that makes them intellectually lesser than the rest of us? If someone can find meaning in "Baby, baby, baby, OHH," then more power to them. We have no right to say that their experience of a certain lyric holds no merit simply because we can't perceive it.
epicnate98 like you said, meaning is subjective. because of this, the issue of whether or not a song has meaning is naturally way too contentious and should therefore be disregarded completely so that the quality and expression of feeling in music, regardless of whether or not it's fabricated, can be improved. i'm sure there are plenty of people who would take a song that's "true" or "real" to them over one that actually sounds good - again, to them. the point is, meaning takes a backseat to quality almost all of the time. that's just my two cents anyway.
Horatio Lampjaw I'm sorry, but I find it hard to accept that just because something is controversial, it should be thrown to the wayside. I do find lyrics and the subjective "meaning" of those lyrics among alternative/metal music to be overrated, but I also believe that lyrics can be an enhancement of the musical experience. I can understand why some might say that the music and the lyrics need to be observed separately, but I personally see them as one and the same.
epicnate98 yes, I know many people who think of lyrics as the 'most important part' of the music (majority of people I talk to actually) but when I listen to music, generally I don't pay attention to the lyrics until hearing the song a lot, or I am learning the song on guitar and plan to sing it. For me I like to listen to the music as a whole and for me the lyrics go to the back seat (you really can only focus on so much at once, especially metal). So I believe lyrics are subjective, and good lyrics definitely make a band more mature (for example Asking Alexandria's old tracks vs their newest album, the lyrics are much more mature) but I don't believe for me they make or break the song. Hell I listen to Attila that writes music about haters and stuff, and now I respect when a metal band does have good meaningful lyrics (memphis may fire for example) but to me it makes no difference in the experience what they're talking about. I think if it did most people who listen to metal could be stereotypically crazy if they were to listen to the lyrics and take them as they are, so I usually ignore them ("put a gun to my head, paint the walls with my brains, put a gun to my head, paint the walls" - alligator blood - bring me the horizon). I see validity both ways but for me I just love badass sounding or great sounding music as a whole and take that before the lyrics.
As someone who metal is my first love, and then rock, punk and industrial, there are lots and lots of great lyrics, even in death and black, you may have to dig a little, but they are there.
my parents hate on metal music due to the "screaming" vocals. but at least they still respect the fact that it takes a shit ton of work to do what they do. Also, you sir, are the front man to metal in general, you always make the best points. Stay BRUTAL!!!!
All of the lyrics in pop/rap are the same. Listen to Hollow by Pantera or Fade To Black by Metallica, anything. That is pure emotion from the soul. Songs that can almost bring you to tears or want to fight or make you feel exhilarated whatever basically any emotion you can think of. Just pure and raw.
Of course in the metal community we pick favorite bands and sometimes fight between each other, and yeah it happens but in all honesty all metal should be equal because the thing with metal is that it's almost never the same. I love your videos and your open mind is something I look up to. Even Metalcore and deathcore have meaningful lyrics. What do you think of bands like White Chapel? And thanks for being open minded, and badass dude. Role model for metalheads.
Good video. And to answer your question at the end, there is "In My Dreams" by Dark Funeral which is a Black Metal love song. I enjoyed it, but that's just me.
There's this one bitch at work who pisses me off constantly. When the kitchen is empty I have some metal playing out of my phone. Everything from Black to Power metal. I love it all. every damn day she says 'It's just shouting, anyone could do that. My 2 year old can do it'.......She said this whilst I was listening to fucking Helloween. I used to try and defend it and give her some info on it but no I just give up and the more she complains the heavier the stuff is that comes out of the speakers. I hate how narrow minded some people can be.
I love fucking helloween, how could they call possibly one of if not the most talented metal male clean vocalist "shouting" she must be listening to purely bass tone shit or is so ignorant that she shut herself off to the music just as not to be proved wrong. Pathetic waste of air.
Maybe she should try playing some of the music that she hates so much. She will come back when she has ripped all of the guitar strings off in frustration ;)
This was awesome haha you're my favourite youtuber now, I'm enjoying those videos based on a story the most :) (i think i met a poser today, meaningful lyrics, do you believe in ghosts etc.)
pleasee , can we have more people like this guy. who the hell cares about the life of the artist or others genres. if i dont like something i respect it but i dont talk shit about it. and im expecting the same from others people when i talk or they ask me about metal.
I'm not one to stereotype or anything like that but most people who I have met that listen to pop music are probably one of the most uneducated people when It comes to music. Some people just like a simple beet on a keyboard and the image that's what music is today..... Crap! I'm pretty open minded when it comes to music and when I say music I mean people in a band not on a laptop pushing buttons.
What if you don't know how it was made, but when hearing it you like it & then later find out someone had mixed it together on their laptop using tracks from a bunch of other songs? Even though I agree that music involves playing an actual instrument, there are some ppl who have a talent for mixing, even if they can't play an instrument. They can hear distinct pieces within songs, take them out, slow it down or speed it up, maybe add effects, & cobble together a song made up of tracks played by other ppl! I'm not sure I could call them a musician as they didn't play it themselves, but they put the song together, so maybe they are a music producer/engineer! That kind of talent is important in studios when recording bands & mixing their albums, but as for the rappers who basically only spit their rhymes over pre made beats, I don't think I can consider that being a musician either, as anyone can do it, but do it really well takes a lot of practice! I look for sincerity in music more than anything! Real music is sincere & usually personal, not made for fame & fortune, or to impress ppl, or hoping ppl will like it & buy it, otherwise why bother? At least to me anyway, I write songs bcuz it's what I feel, while most do it bcuz of the attention or money that it can bring. I don't have a state of the art studio & I don't have the image or fashion to be commercially acceptable so I'll never have to worry about fame! That would really suck to be famous! No one can control who becomes a fan or what they do in your name, as some of them are completely insane & obsessed! It's really sad how much ppl obsess over celebrity & most aren't even sincere, they're just as fake as the products they push! We're well overdue for another rock revolution & hopefully the next one will be a catalyst for social change as well! ROCKNROLL!
The best artist never date example. Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Queen, The Who, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix Black Sabbath, Iron maiden etc. There were never computers to help them out it was just a tape recorder and there instruments that they have took there time and dedication into playing. You tell me of an artist nowadays that when they quit they will be remembered
Knute Lindstrom totally agree with everything you say dude, but doing music manually instead of computers doing all the work isn't really the art of real music, yes computers are handy to a certain level but musicians should not try and rely on technology to do all the work for them should be using there brain.
Bradley Spinks although the same stuff is in metallike djent is repetative bs and pornogrind slam and newer deathcore but i dont like those genres anyway so thats a little bias im more of a metal from 60s-2006 kind of guy
Dayton Potts yeah I'm not a fan really a fan of deathcore, hardcore or anything like that I'm more into traditional or old school metal as I'm more about guitar riffs and solos instead of the growing and grunting. Nothing against it it just personal preference with my taste. But each to there own as they say
I don't know if you'll read this but I love your channel and your views on all things metal. Purely platonic of course, and awesome beard :D keep rocking \m/
To be fair, Obituary's "Slowly We Rot" and "Cause of Death" didn't have any lyrics, John Tardy just growled sounds and occasionally threw in a random "brutal" word.
I like music with meaningful lyrics that you can tell is deep and personal to the writer and I also like songs that aren't very meaningful but express their creativity in a very interesting way.
I actually have a similar story: I was at Elie's Deli, and the cashier asked me what I was listening to, to which I replied "symphonic death metal", so we had a conversation about other death metal bands like Whitechapel, Carnifex, and Rings of Saturn. It was awesome :D
Very interesting topic for video.I have been countless times in the situation where i have to explain to a friend(who listens to pop,rap etc) why i like death/black metal bands and whats going on with the lyrics.Well tbh i dont care so much about the lyrics,i just like the music, especially in black metal for the dark atmosphere or death metal for the aggresity/brutality or the slow grimmy riffs.Thats what i always try to explain to those people.
For long-time fans like myself, it becomes easier and easier to understand lyrics from bands like Immolation. I remember when I first started getting way into Metal with Guttural vocals, (i.e; Deicide, Rotting Christ, Nile, etc) I couldn't understand a damn thing they said and I had to read lyrics. But over time it got a lot easier to understand what they were saying. You can think of it like learning a new language almost. You can't just jump right in and understand everything.
In 90% of pop songs nowadays the lyrics are about love, vary simply. Meaning that the lyrics have the listener think; they just listen. Meaningful lyrics mean that you also must realize what the lyrics mean. Like "i
actually most pop songs are about "Drugs, sex and rock and roll" as they always have been..... Love itself is A rare subject in pop music. Most artists just sing about their bodies, drugs or how much money they've made.
Slkfd You realize the term "pop" originated from rock music don't you??? you also have to realize pop (throughout most of it's time.) has been about "drugs sex and rock and roll" look at all the popular songs these days. The majority of them are about sex, especially the R&B (usually lyrics about the female singer's body or how she's ready to "get it on tonight" or About how the male singer loved fucking some ex girlfriend.) and Rock songs The other more popular songs (usually rap songs.) are usually about disrespecting women, Violent crimes, Drugs (probably the most popular subject.) sex ("fucking whores" or "bitches") and "rock n roll" (as almost all of them make reference to A form of rock music in some way shape or form.) The only pop songs that rarely feature these are indie songs (which over the last 10 years have been gaining popularity.) and A couple of those folky songs OR bruno mars hahahah (Although some of his material is about sex as well.)
Slkfd Read all of my comments properly.... I never said all pop music was rock... or that all rock music is pop... I said the term actually originated in the 1950s to DESCRIBE rock artists.... and if you'd like you could easily look it up for yourself and find the same thing somewhere else. I was pointing out that pop music since it's beginning (including now.) lyrically still contains reasonably the same shit. Although it's A little more obvious now with less metaphor. The majority of modern pop songs are about SEX, especially Female R&B songs (mainly because there aren't as many popular male R&B artists.), dance music, rap, rock (although pop rock has other themes as well.) and on rare occasion also indy music. Drugs are often A theme in modern rock songs, dance tracks and rap. and rock n roll (which basically means party hahahha.) is found on all modern pop tracks bar folky ones or SOME indy tracks.... there are also tonnes of pop songs that make reference to rock music (or compare their music to rock in one way or another.) during the lyrics of A song. What continent's are you referring to??? europe and North America???? or something else.... because rock music was/is prominent on both of these..... and pop music or "popular music" is what ever people are listening to at the time.... During the 80s- early 90s it was glam metal/rock during the early 90s it was death metal and then it was grunge (although R&B and dance music towards the end of the 90s gained popularity.) During the 60s and 70s it was heavy metal and during the 50s it was rock n roll.
First of all, I really appricate you in personal way. You've got your own style, you don't judge anybody and you have awesome lifestyle, and the most important thing: you let people live the life in their own way. But to note this video: I like to listen to many different genres, anything what sounds good in my ears. And I think the lyrics can be meaningful in many different ways. For example, most of the rap lyrics what made in 90's are telling about poverty, the bad state of black community, racism and so on. In some of metal songs there's a story about things what happend in history, for Example a power metal band called Sabaton from Sweden, are telling about the WW2, Vietnam war etc. Art is so subject thing and you can understand the lyircs how you want to. For me it's about one thing: the totality of songs. Hope you got my point and please, forgive me the mistakes in my text. My english is not so good. Have a nice summer!
About this last part where you wonder how love songs would sound in metal style, there is a guy Leo Moracchioli that "trasverses" pop into metal-ish. You have probably heard of him. Just wanted to add that I simply love how your brain functions. Thank you for existing
I completely agree with you man, there's not enough time in the day to explain to people who don't get metal as a whole. except for maybe mainstream metal like Metallica, Ramnstien, and Slayer. I do think that metal lyrics are written more to the fans since most metal heads are always being challenged in life where as rap/pop it's more about the money and trying to get that flow right. In fact Nikki Minaj said that 1 of her videos was inspired by Dethklock lol. Of course I checked out the video and the whole thing was bullshit all the too the lyrics. just figured I'd comment stay brutal friend \m/
I know it's probably not your kind of music, but there is an Australian melodic hardcore band called Saviour who released and album titled First Light to My Death Bed which is a concept album about a couple who go through drug abuse and it's got a really meaningful message to it. This is a great example of how heavy music can have really awesome lyrics. The album is set out like a narrative with a beginning, middle and end and I really like the album as a whole. Mourning, unstoppable and the interlude song Karolena are a few of the stand outs in my opinion.
Rap is my number one genre. Ive only really been listening to metal for 3 years maybe? Idk but my friend showed me all these bands. Slipknot I knew 2 songs from them for a while but i wasnt hugely into it. But you know a7x especially since i play cod. So im relatively new to metal but still have a good understanding. Recently (past 3 months or so) Ive been into other bands like bring me the horizon and for the subject I'll talk about the early stages of them. I love it. Its crazy how my taste in music has changed soooo much. I used to hear screamo or metal and stuff with like high screams and shit i used to think "Yeah I wont ever get into this" well, that changed lol. But like pop music is to dance to or to party to or I guess some meaningful stuff. I listen to rap when Im tryna spit and just get into it. Rap is for lyrics. Metal, eh. I guess you could get into really rhymey and do some multi syllables in metal that would be cool😂 but metal is for the experience of the band. Obviously I feel most or at least the songs I listen to in metal there is a meaning in the song its just they dont do so much rhyming cause that doesnt matter. Ending rhymes is all. Especially if its like metalcore or deathcore then its just the vocals i look for I dont care what the song is. If theres a meaning yeah it makes the sense of the song better but its not particularly needed. By the way when I talk about rap like some rap is trash but you can still just turn up to but i 99% of the time listen to lyrical content stuff. Metal is where the 1% of me looks for meaning or lyrical content. Honestly i think I went of course but yeah you get it.
i can't help but to explain why i am so passionate for heavy metal, death metal and thrash metal. because the lyrics mean so much to me and also the talent it takes to shred on guitar that fast, and dude i love your videos, I'm in a hard rock band man, like me i know your more into metal, but I think you will dig our sound dude, here is the link to our music video Farewell, The Younger - Drifting Anima (Official Video)
As the wind bellows softly in the night Next to you I will walk until the morning light Hand in hand, soul in flesh Let my words gently guide your steps Now that chaos ensues I promise to stand by your side To embrace forevermore As you walk solemnly Down this endless path of flames Let no flames burn thy skin I will hold your hand Incarnia - led by tears. Thats what a metal love song sounds like.
Mr metal dude, what are your thoughts about inhales. A lot of people frown on it but i don't think it should be frowned upon. It's just a different sound you know? People think inhaling is easier so it's less "metal". I think it is just as hard or even harder. I can do exhales all day, but my inhales get weak after awhile (probably inproper technique) but still
dude nice video , I already suscribed , what you said about listening to diferent things that aren't metal metal it kinda reminded to me a bit , I have a black metal band I started it 5 years ago I'm 21 btw , and my favorite singer is Bruce Springsteen , I have all his collection ,a lot of his merchandising , and I also listen to other things like the cure , joy division , the smiths , johnny cash ,etc. and I tell you this because there's a lot of people who thinks that if you listen to metal specially if you have a black metal band you can't listening to other genres and you are not ''real'', you are no underground at all , It is completely nonese , very close mind people.
Constantly had this thing over and over again from a particular guy back in California. One specific moment was when he went off to my friend and I about how "Why would they do those kind of vocals though when you can't hear anything? How are you supposed to reach your fan base when no one can understand you!?" Paraphrased, but still . . . nothing we could say would get through to him. Of course this is also the guy who said Dio was probably gay because of all his references to rainbows . . .
I love those"duck" noises he makes
Duck noises? I thought they're fart noises.
then you don;t know what a fart sounds like
"This is the shit I was talking about" Well it's shit indeed. HAHAHA made my day xDDD
All genres have songs with really shit lyrics and all genres have songs that are really meaningful.
Name one modern pop song with good lyrics.
Omar Rangel there are a few. I can't name any off the top of my head because I don't listen to pop but I no there are a few (not much) that exsist
Omar Rangel new beat - toro y moi
kimbra - love in high places
pyramid - frank ocean
some of my favorite lyrics in frank oceans work for sure. he does lots of rnb and writes for justin beiber regularly. he is also in OWGKTA so quite a diverse guy
I was gonna say this.
Omar Rangel Okay.
Rihanna - Diamonds (It's about Rihanna's grandmother.)
Sia - Ellastic Heart (It's about Sia fighting with depression.)
Sia - Chandelier (Relationship with alcohol.)
Kwabs - Walk (Leaving the past behind and moving on.)
Basically every song by Twenty One Pilots
This was it for now, it's not that much, because I don't like pop (I prefer Suicide Silence, thanks), but I can look up more good pop music, or even dubstep and rap if you want me to.
There are pop artists that are independent. Research some more of it you’ll find stuff
I think Bruno Mars has swallowed a few things. But not a grenade.
and what came out is called his 'music'
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Such as male members?
@@TheMrLPable Good point
I find pop music sing about the same types of topics with repetitive lyrics. Sex, drugs love. That's all what the lyrics are about...
yeah, it always either sex, drugs, a girl that dumped them, or their "rough past"
+Metalforlife Max Martin I believe is the name
Top left corner, Amon Amarth, awh yuss.
I find metal has the most meaningful lyrics of any genre. People don't realize this because of their preconception of metal.
Anubis 666 He literally said that most metal is meaningful, how the fuck did you interpret his comment any different?
This vid is fucking epic. Stay metal brothers.
Your videos are addictive I really wish I could argue in the way you do
"Well it's shit indeed."
*Died of laughter*
the best thing about the heavy metal lyrics in general is that everyone find his/hers own meaning, when he/she read or listen these lyrics.
Blergh.
Willa bema Yeah, I love that song about the guy who spontaneously combusted, so deep
l m a o
Deepest lyrics I know are by 2 bands, Opeth and Gojira. however both are progressive deathmetal.

Some guy told me: Is that the devil singing?
The Devil (Satan) is supposed to be seductive. Most people are more likely to be seduced by the vocals of Bruno Mars than, say, Chris Barnes.
rhtaft which is why BRUNO MARS IS THE DEVIL =)
Yeah Kesha had a flashing pentagram on her vid it's pop music
Alex Krupnik you know that song that song by anthrax "indians" that has some pretty stupid lyrics like cry for the indians
They are all bad
Hey welcome to my channel, glad to hear you like it!

A wise woman once told me, a genuine music lover loves different kinds of music. Not just one type of genre.
over the years of having to listen to my mums pop music there actually are alot of artists out there that have amazing voices. only problem is there songs sound like poop and are ruined by multiple things.
Give "The wanderer" by Amorphis if you have not already, truly amazing
Every time I'm done recording a song/cover for my new album (coming November 1st, sorry, gotta get it out there), I come here to watch your videos for entertainment value and basically kills my leisure time in an informative/theoretical way.
great words. another thing people seem to not get is that there is more to the lyrics then what you hear, literature often has forms of symbolism in it and I think sometimes people take it to literally when they first hear the words before they think about it deeper.
Want a metal love song you say? In my dreams by dark funeral
Beautiful Fire by Dekadent
Meaningful Lyrics: Wintersun!
I know a lot of Metal that have Meaningful Lyrics.
"The Lay of Our Love" by Tyr is a good metal love song.

Hey man. I never usually listen to people on TH-cam, but I stumbled upon this through a Psytopus video and ended up watching the whole way through. I'll check out your previous videos for some recommendations. Stay brutal yourself.
listening to you rant is the greatest thing ever
Exactly. I think 'real' artists can portray melancholy, grief, joy, and all sorts of other emotions
Marc-André Houle Now it's not just love either, it's also; nigga, drugs, partying and I have money, you don't.
It's not a phenomenon found only in pop music, though more common there
90s pop was not only about love, it had variety e g Bjork
Guys, if you like this guy, check out Adoseofbuckley's hatin on pop music;)
yes! buckley is funny.
buckley is great but theyre both completely different.just a note for people expecting to find a similar type of discussion on adoseofbuckley's channel, you wont
Adoseofbuckley also hated on metal and metalfans in a really ignorant way though.
HarbingerOfTruth1 no he didn't his reasons were completely justified. as a metal-head myself i totally agreed with him
S4ndpitTurtle They weren't and were completely wrong.
Meaningful Lyrics: Iron Maiden!
Agreed to that
Haha, if somebody says Metal lyrics are just about Satan or whatever, I just show them some Metal lyrics and let them compare it with the lyrics from the song "Whistle" by Flo Rida.
We have no right to say that their experience of a certain lyric holds no merit simply because we can't perceive it.
to be honest meaning is basically irrelevant in music
Horatio Lampjaw
How so?
epicnate98 like you said, meaning is subjective. because of this, the issue of whether or not a song has meaning is naturally way too contentious and should therefore be disregarded completely so that the quality and expression of feeling in music, regardless of whether or not it's fabricated, can be improved. i'm sure there are plenty of people who would take a song that's "true" or "real" to them over one that actually sounds good - again, to them. the point is, meaning takes a backseat to quality almost all of the time. that's just my two cents anyway.
Stay BRUTAL!!!!
even the lyrics have an deeper meaning okay there are some ballshit lyrics but in general most metal songs have a meaning
Shoutout to Rammstein!! :)
+Ryker ‘the Stryker’ Redding Damn right!
I accept that people like different genres, but it's not music without any emotion. It just isn't.
There are rap songs that are meaningful, you just sound like a typical pop fan talking about metal
Zaphyra Yeah, 2pac and Biggie were great lyricists and Eminem still is
Yeah same with Nas, Illmatic is probably the best rap album IMO
are you kidding?

80's and 90's pop is way much better! Pop nowadays are full of shit! Metal music is timeless no matter what meaning it brings to the public.
'This is the shit I'm talkin about, man!'
"Yeah. It's some shit, alright."
Hahaha!
I deal with this stereotype on a daily basis and I can relate the stuff u just spoke about. good stuff man and keep it up

As for the love song comment made at the end, I think To Carry you Away by After the Burial is a pretty good example of something like that.
"Drugs, sex and rock and roll" appear on rock songs...
Slkfd You realize the term "pop" originated from rock music don't you??? you also have to realize pop (throughout most of it's time.) has been about "drugs sex and rock and roll" look at all the popular songs these days.
The majority of them are about sex, especially the R&B (usually lyrics about the female singer's body or how she's ready to "get it on tonight" or About how the male singer loved fucking some ex girlfriend.) and Rock songs
The other more popular songs (usually rap songs.) are usually about disrespecting women, Violent crimes, Drugs (probably the most popular subject.) sex ("fucking whores" or "bitches") and "rock n roll" (as almost all of them make reference to A form of rock music in some way shape or form.)
The only pop songs that rarely feature these are indie songs (which over the last 10 years have been gaining popularity.) and A couple of those folky songs OR bruno mars hahahah (Although some of his material is about sex as well.)
Pop and rock are completely different, and absolutely not "kinda same" etc. They were born on different continents, even!
During the 80s- early 90s it was glam metal/rock during the early 90s it was death metal and then it was grunge (although R&B and dance music towards the end of the 90s gained popularity.)
During the 60s and 70s it was heavy metal and during the 50s it was rock n roll.
First video ive ever seen of yours. Subscribed. Simply for the fact that youre real
Of course I checked out the video and the whole thing was bullshit all the too the lyrics. just figured I'd comment stay brutal friend \m/
this was wonderful, man. I listen to Madder Mortem very often, and their lyrics are just amazing, just so as Soilwork's and many many more.
Great video!
I can totally see your point.
I would like to know if there's a death / thrash metal band with meaningful lyrics that you can recommend.
Your collection! It's so amazing!
Seriously one of the best videos I have ever seen.
i can't help but to explain why i am so passionate for heavy metal, death metal and thrash metal. because the lyrics mean so much to me and also the talent it takes to shred on guitar that fast, and dude i love your videos, I'm in a hard rock band man, like me i know your more into metal, but I think you will dig our sound dude, here is the link to our music video Farewell, The Younger - Drifting Anima (Official Video)
As the wind bellows softly in the night
Next to you I will walk until the morning light
Hand in hand, soul in flesh
Let my words gently guide your steps
Now that chaos ensues
I promise to stand by your side
To embrace forevermore
As you walk solemnly
Down this endless path of flames
Let no flames burn thy skin
I will hold your hand
Incarnia - led by tears.
I know a metal love song. What If I Was Nothing by All That Remains. It shows companionship for someone you love throughout a long period of time.
I agree with you completely.
Of course this is also the guy who said Dio was probably gay because of all his references to rainbows . . .
Would meaningful also be educational? When I started to get into metal I was listening to Carcass...I had a dictionary handy
5:43 best duck quack imitation I have heard :D
I love this! This is like watching comedy central alone and laugh out loud. Loved this part the most: "Adele, I know her and ooh... Justin bieber..."
