@Galahad42 I think 'fans' often think they own the band. That the band has no right to change into whatever they want. And when they're still the same people they should be able to carry the same name. People often talk about the obligation bands have towards their fans, I think people should just be happy when they deliver something new.
Thank you for this. I've said similar things to my husband. He likes to talk about "underground vs mainstream" and "selling out" a lot...... and I have given him verbal smack downs when he gets too obnoxious about it. He talks about his underground music and wears band shirts all the time, turning up his nose at things....... Until recently he thought he had the most underground interests in music out of the two of us, because I don't advertize myself as any particular thing. You should have seen his face when I listed over 20 bands he'd never heard of while I was telling him off for calling some band or other a sell out.... because they got famous. Fame does not make a band a sellout, it just means that they are good enough musicians to have MANY people enjoy them. That is no crime.
Exactly! Bands can't control who becomes their fans! If they could, they'd all be famous! There's a lot of variables involved for why ppl become fans, & while there are differences between mainstream & underground fan bases, there are similarities as well! More commercially acceptable groups tend to have a whole sellable package of Image, fashion, music, & attitude, with marketing playing a big role in success as well, & mainstream fans tend to be a bit more superficial (not all, as there's exceptions to everything). While there are plenty of underground bands that might be way more talented or technical than some mainstream bands, the difference is they may not have the image or fashion that helps to sell commercially as a package. IMO, selling out is compromising ones artistic integrity & dignity for any reason, most common being fame & fortune. A lot of bands do whatever they want, but as soon as they let themselves be convinced to do something they don't want in exchange for something they do want, they sell out. Even if their record flops & doesn't sell. Just bcuz a band has a whole package to make them commercially successful doesn't mean they automatically sold out for breaking into the mainstream, it just means the mainstream finds them more appealing than other similar bands. Unfortunately with the commercial mainstream industry, looks/image do play a big part, as well as connections/knowing the right ppl. A lot of underground groups deserve more recognition & some have really good & important messages in their music, but the sad truth is mainstream commercial fan bases, in general, are more superficial & tend to care about image & fashion as much, if not more than melody. There's always going to be a general majority of ppl & that is usually what mainstream consists of, the general majority. Even they can't all agree on one thing! Like the meaning of "selling out"! Hahaha! RocknRoll!
Agree 100%. I don't like Kreator's 90's stuff, not saying it was bad, I just didn't like it. Doesn't mean they sold out. I grew up on Thrash in the 80's, but by the 90's I was bored shitless of it. Then came White Zombie, and Fear Factory, Biohazard, The Rollins Band, MachineHead, I started listening to Carcass, Obituary, Entombed, Cathedral. etc. Just a lot of stuff that sounded fresh to me. Then I liked Slipknot, and then I got back into Thrash during it's 2000's revival. Now I'm getting bored of the thrash formula again, and have been listening to more Black, Death, and Doom. Metal needs to stay "fresh", If I can get bored of a style after 10 years, imagine how the bands who play the music must feel? I think it's great there is more variety in metal now than the 80's, it's a lot easier to keep interested in it. I even love Metallica again, and I enjoy the new Slipknot songs.
This video covered this topic perfectly. You back up every one of your statements accurately and you give great examples. When people in my area that want to talk to me about music and they talk about a band/artist/group or whatever that they don't like, the very FIRST thing that they say is that they "Sold out" or they are "Too mainstream". So I can definitley relate to this video when I discuss this common topic with my friends. Again, great video!
Albin, that's one thing that Tommy Lee doesn't understand..it's the record insdustry that wants the band to repeat their initial successful lp(s) not their fans
Wow! that is truly a nice gesture on their part... an attitude we proud metalheads need more amongst ourselves...! Yet another great video, hails from Canada!
@Szerith Haha well yeah I don't have a script indeed, I think of certain things ( like double person jokes ) up front but whatever I want to say is just what comes to mind. Good to hear you like it.
As a musician, you should allow for your music to grow and try different things. I'd rather have a band/musician that experiments with their sound rather than ones that make the same boring music over and over again.
Good point,luke.... but, when a member of a band starts kissing the ass of the record company...when it comes to illegal downloading...( the napster debacle) ....and provides a list of fans who he accuses of stealing parts of their new material... and uploading it to P2P platforms.... when It may haven been someone at the record company who was doing it... this , to me, is the wrost example of selling out !
I agree with you..selling out is kissing the ass of the record company...remember the napster debacle..when Lars Ulrich acused Metallica fans of stealinf parts of their new material and uploading it to napster...I saw through that bullshit right away. .If lars would've done some sleuthing in the background..he may have found out who was doing this to them
Luke ,Isn't the record company that tells the band/ artist to repeat their past successful records because It Makes More Money for the assbholes at the record company & not the band ?
You not wanting to be a partner is exactly the reason why I like watching your videos so much. With all the other "bigger" TH-camrs (who are partners) I can always see that the quality of their videos went south once they became famous. But with you not wanting to even be a part of the partner-program ... I think that, this is really special. Greetings from Austria ;D
I love how you listen to all these brutal-as-fuck bands but still are not afraid to say that you like Metallica :). And I do agree, half the people who say they sold out have no clue what they're talking about.
I don't think that if a band changes their sound, makes money, or becomes popular, it means they are sell outs. Katatonia, Soilwork, amorphis, and cynic are bands that changed their sound and didn't sell out. A band selling out is when they simplify their music solely for the purpose of making money, which is what metallica did. When a big part of metal is the atmosphere and complexity, it feels like you are betrayed when an awesome band gives up on what made them unique, solely based on greed.
Agree with you. Also I'd say that bands that make the same kind of album everytime..I think those bands should be termed as sellouts. There's no way a band can sincerely feel like repeating the same style over and over again throughout their career. Even Slayer felt the need to change their style somewhat in the late 90s (they got back to their 'roots' but atleast they tried to experiment). For e.g. lot of the death/thrash metal bands that made some really good, groundbreaking albums in the 80s/early 90s, continued to make the same kind of music..because they were scared that their record label might ditch them. Gorguts changed their style drastically after Erosion of Sanity and see what Roadrunner did to them! And now they're treated like legends. So experimentation does pay off in the long run.
dachel doom Exactly, changing your sound doesn't mean selling out. In Job For A Cowboy case they made their deathcore ep, they decided they wanted to strive for better content each album and to them that meant to change and become a death metal band and evolve musically. With each album I think they get better and better but I still like their deathcore ep. i mean they kept the same sound but changed the style that they play to death metal.
dachel doom Depends on how you change. If a band changes to fit into a scene that has lot of following and fan support.. that is called selling out! I'm going to name a few bands that started out as sellouts (imo) : Evile, Entrails, White Wizzard, Watain and all the other new bands that are simply 'copying' the old school heavy/death/thrash/black metal. If a band tries something that is very new and unheard of..that is called progressing. And it is very important for bands to keep pushing the boundaries. Otherwise music in general..is just going to die..and we're going to end up with 'cover bands'. Thankfully there are still lots of bands today that are trying to experiment and evolve with every album (Gorguts, Deathspell Omega, Opeth, Blut Aus Nord, Ulver, Steven Wilson, Orphaned Land, Cynic, Ulcerate, etc).
@blasphemator That's a mere opinion. I don't see the new cd of Morbid Angel a selling out point. I see it as something they wanted to do. The question if I like it or not is irrelevant in this. The only people they have a contract with is the label. Fans can expect all they want, but a band does what it wants.
@Opuskrokus True but in how many cases does it work that way? People always want more. More cd's, t-shirts, more merchandise, more concerts of bands, tours...bands need money to do that. People even wants a shirt from me, I am not to lazy to make something if people would like that but that cost a lot of money, which I don't have.
Dude those Columbian kids made me smile. Also, Infidel you're videos really do contribute a great view point to the metal community, please keep doing them.
I have a lot of fucking respect for you man. You have changed my views on things so much and made me think about the shit i say and the way i look at people and music. Keep doing what you're doing man, thank you!
@MisterMammoth Yeah now you mention it, that's right. I already knew them when they made deathcore, and then they made that latest album and I bought it. ;-) Thanks!
@allmetaliswelcome I heard about that, it's suppose to be the most expensive coffee in the world, still the idea it's actually 'cat crap' makes me pretty unwillingly to give it a try.
Funny thing is, a month later, those same people were preaching about how great Muse's new album was! It's completely a bandwagon thing, and it annoys the hell out of me! As to your cards, I completely agree with you, and thanks for clarifying! I was slightly confused as well about the reason for the cards, but now that you've explained them, I think they're a great idea! Great video as always, Ed. Hail! ~Drew
You really often said the same in this video... No script, all freely spoken, I really like this. Making a good video out of a quite raw thought is really what I like about TH-cam: Quality of the mind
Videos with the adverts before they start is actually up to the video owner there's a tick box in the video editing area. Just incase you ever change your mind =]
@LeetMetalhead Pop metal? And I have no clue what I am talking about? How can you be absolutely sure that those two bands didn't just want to try something else instead of satisfying a greater audience? So what are bands that go from deathcore to deathmetal? Reverse sell outs? People always have their explanation ready when in fact it's all guessing.
coffee sounds good right about now haha im really liking the positive outlook your last few videos have. not to say your other ones are negative in any way of course but its good to see someone with a brain in the metal scene and not elitest. cheers from canada!
after that especially from Below the Lights to Axioma Ethica Odini they changed tone, and added clean vocals to some parts of the song, added keyboard effects and some orchestral elements.. but they still in my opinion managed to touch on their root sound on each album in some way ...[continue to next post]
I like this guy. This is the kinda person who keeps metal fresh after 35-40 years of it's existence. The guys who stick with metal through the 90's and 2000's pretty much stick with metal forever. Long Live Rock and Roll!!!
Sometimes a band that THE MASSES don't know about can be very special then they go big and it's not the same anymore. It's like going to your favorite apple tree everyday that nobody has seen before and it's very special to you, then when people find out about and start picking apples from that special tree of yours, it's not really that special anymore.
If you're going to change the way a band sounds, change the name of the band. If Cannibal Corpse started playing symphonic black metal, it just wouldn't be CC anymore.
Blowpipe...hahahahahahahaha! Ed, bro, I think the cards you made up are awesome! I don't think there's anything wrong with "promoting" oneself if it's something their passionate about. Promotioning something doesn't = sell out. WTF? Anyway, cool Deivos shirt. Gospel of Maggots is an awesome cd! Hail, and keep up the good work! - Wulf
You speak truth, good sir. When people call bands sell-out it really makes me mad. Its like, jeez, let the musicians make the music the feel like making.
Selling out is compromising ones artistic integrity or dignity in exchange for whatever reason, being that it's for attention, monetary gain (the two most common), or any other possibility & it goes for pretty much anything, not just music. If someone changes their whole personality bcuz they want someone else to like them or notice them, they are selling out themselves for potential acceptance. Someone who compromises their sexual dignity in exchange for attention or money is selling out themselves. They don't have to do it, but will do it in exchange for something that they want even more. It's most common in commercial music though as major labels tend to pressure bands into doing something they wouldn't have done on their own, & bands who willingly do whatever they're told so they can achieve fame & fortune, commercial success, bcuz they want that much more than doing their own thing or trying to achieve commercial success on their own merits. A major label might tell a band "you do exactly what we say & we'll market you as the next big thing, but only if you give up artistic control & let us groom you into a super group. We have state of the art recording studios with multiple effects & you are replaceable with any number of pretty faces! If you want fame & fortune bad enough, you'll do what we say & you'll be rich! Trust us, we do this all the time! You've heard of (insert band), yeah, their songs are written for them too!" And so it goes, ppl will compromise their integrity, dignity, honor, ideals, morals, ethics, etc., all for superficial gain & reasons. One can sell out on any level, not just their band, but themselves personally. Such a damn shame & a waste of who one really is!
@blasphemator No because it's the same people, only maybe with a different sound. I think a name does not represent a certain music ( that would be the genre ) but the group of people who make the music. And maybe my example isn't the best one..but you could ofcourse try a little effort and try to understand my point.
16:55 "Ferrum Aeternum" and 18:02 "Sword Chant". both by the Finnish folk metal band Ensiferum. My favorite band! Good taste in music you guys! Can't wait for their new album! :D
well its relly cool that the colombia guys contacted you .... im from colombia too!!! and here are a lot of emmm kinda "true metalheads" they think exactcly what are you saying, that a litle change in a musical direction it´s selling out, but those kind of "metalheads" dosn´t really support the local scene, they try to enter free to the shows, even if it´s in a club on in a bar and more stuff like that... but it also has great people who really support the metal in all their ways... cheers
There's a difference between changing your style because you want, and playing something you don't like for money. In most cases, you're dead on though.
screw all the haters and trolls that wanna hate on your vids. you're just explaining what selling out is and saying what other people say.i like the fact that you would still support a band even if they changed up their music style. and as always everyones entitled to their own opinion and people should just quit being trolls
@morpheusplaysguitar Still I don't want to be partner anymore. The Only reason why I wanted it was to make longer video's, but that's already possible. And if I get back twice that they deny my request then fuck it...
singing about that she stopped leaking from the bottom... that was killer move! ;d and those cards are good time savers on concerts or anywhere just like You said, making them was good idea, and also they look cool, lol most of acquisitor's, agents or personal business cards doesn't look that badass. Greetings \m/
Ed, there is a skip ad button that you could tap..this will get rid of the advert The thing that I hate is when I'm watching a video and a little over a minute ( it could be less time than that) and a advert for something that is completely unrelated to the video gets on my last nerve & ruins the vidclip.
I like your approach, very reasonable and generally well thought through. I agree - the only time I would accuse a band of selling out is when they stop making what they want to and bow to the demands of record companies or fans in order to be successful - a fairly literal definition of "selling out". Opeth is a wonderful example - they maintain musical integrity despite ranting from closed-minded fans. Don't like Heritage, no problem, but they're doing the exact opposite of selling out.
You should make a coffee chain reaction thing with a whole bunch of metalheads on youtube... That'd be a sick promotional video, like all the people make movies, and the description can have all the youtube names.. you know, promotion, it's not like you're selling out to coffee or anything XD
A little late commenting, but you have done nothing like selling out. Your promotions of music have helped me discover wonderful bands that I couldn't have found on my own. Cheers!
"Sellouts" are people who allow record labels to buy them out and tell them what they want to have on the next record. Guys and girls in metal bands aren't like the guys and girls involved in pop music, they don't make tons of money. If they "sold out" I'm pretty sure they'd be cashing in right about now. Sometime's people's life or ideas change and the music changes with it and that just needs to be understood and accepted. I love this video and couldn't agree more.
Senor Blevins's band hahahahaha good one, seriously you always say the RIGHT thing, always fair and objective, nice. like the colombians said, you help metal grow and show people that metal heads are not morons who just headbang all day ( even if we do headbang a lot .... ) keep going, and no you're no selling out ( you know that already ) you're doing your thing, if you've got more than 5000 subscribers, who cares what some kids say, keep it metal :)
Well the name black metal came from Venom, I think we can conclude that Venom is thrash/black. But what would you consider Iron Maiden to be then? And the big four...myeah, I dunno. I didn't know people had a problem with them. I would not go because I think the ticket is too expensive. And well.....I am not the best at fighting games...But it still is my favourite kind of game. I mean the new Mortal Kombat...wow! And eh I don't play online...I would get my ass kicked every match ;-)
Some people are just stupid like I agree with what you are saying, because no band is gonna come out with the exact same sounding album twice. BUT! the thing is that sometimes bands really do sell out because when they are signed, the record labels sometimes like try to change the sound of the bands and shit and usually make them softer.
you know when i watch videos like this (espiecally videos of infidentamsterdam)...it makes me wonder..why are all the people that carry the same or similar mentalities as me always live nowhere close to me...im stuck here in KSA to rot with the most ignorant, stubborn, simple minded, stereotypical people i ever knew. P.S cheers Ed, your videos are truly inspiring and make lots of sense and any troll that bashes you is obviously because of jealousy. greetings from mitch (Y)
Same Opinion here. youre just one of those guys who are not highly braindamaged(like a lot are). Youre tolerant and openminded, thats something special in this world. sorry for my bad english
I like the idea of bands changing their name to put out a different style of music. I think that bands should stay true to their sound because their sound imho is a part of their overall brand. For instance, it makes sense that Corey Taylor would have another project like Stone Sour for the softer, hard rock style and that Slipknot would retain more of its trademark sound.
Elvis's sound changed all the time and nobody said he sold out. On the other hand, The Who kept saying never trust people at a certain age and when they reached that age and kept playing then that was selling out. Other acts that changed their sound and then went famous: Madonna was a Blondie style rocker chick. It didn't work so she went dance pop to get famous. Katy Perry was a gospel singer and became famous doing pop while acting like a bimbo. Meagan Trainor did three Tori Amos style CDs before getting into vintage style bubblegum pop. Nirvana was an '80s cover band before it got into the grunge scene.
Selling out is when a musician starts making music that is isn't real to them and more industry influenced. I could care less if my favourite artists are sighned or not, or how many other people listen to the music. As long as I enjoy it and it speaks to me, I love it.
You familiar with Scion A/V, they've been promoting a ton of underground bands. A friend of mine claimed bands who go through here are sellouts. such bands are Sleep, Macgrudergrind, and Anaal Nathrakh. My knowledge about scion helped me understand this video more.
In my opinion, The term "selling out" means doing things that you don't like for personal gain, especially for money
M.Blade , what do you think of my post ?
I agree
@Galahad42
I think 'fans' often think they own the band. That the band has no right to change into whatever they want.
And when they're still the same people they should be able to carry the same name.
People often talk about the obligation bands have towards their fans, I think people should just be happy when they deliver something new.
The worst part is that people say all the songs sound the same if the artist never sold out.

One of the few smart things Tommy has ever said

That might actually happen...

well said buddy, i agree with you
Here 11 years later for nostalgia and memories. It’s crazy how fast time flies.
@DreiAlpha
No I mean illegal downloading, getting music without paying the right person for it.
@Twiggyay
They both were cut open indeed at the borders.
@Barbatruck94
True I would never pay that for a concert.
But it's becoming really popular to throw 'sell outs!' around everywhere.

Dude, that thing about not being a youtube partner just gave me utmost respect for you! Stay Metal my friend!!
@MisterMammoth
Yeah now you mention it, that's right.
I already knew them when they made deathcore, and then they made that latest album and I bought it.
;-)
Thanks!
@Jashinknowsbest
Maybe I look a little different because I had a shower short before that..;-)
@allmetaliswelcome
I heard about that, it's suppose to be the most expensive coffee in the world, still the idea it's actually 'cat crap' makes me pretty unwillingly to give it a try.
@MegaDemonlover
Not recently I guess, but thanks anyway!
:-p
Deathcore no, cause I only promote what I like myself. I also don't make negative reviews on albums. But I have already made thrash and black promos
One of the best metal reviewers out there. I watch all your videos. Metal for life!!!!!
@Opuskrokus
But how is a band going to progress without making money?
@ScreamOutJelly
Yeah I got the cd "for those who walk behind us"
I like just a few songs from one or two bands....so far I have never heard a cd or band I would totally promote.
@northstarprod
Seen em, got a cd, love em.
@vladm1994
And I just asked him if he think I would change my videos for him....what's not to get about that?
Funny thing is, a month later, those same people were preaching about how great Muse's new album was! It's completely a bandwagon thing, and it annoys the hell out of me!
As to your cards, I completely agree with you, and thanks for clarifying! I was slightly confused as well about the reason for the cards, but now that you've explained them, I think they're a great idea!
Great video as always, Ed.
Hail!
~Drew
@buckethead05
I got all their albums..;-)
You really often said the same in this video... No script, all freely spoken, I really like this. Making a good video out of a quite raw thought is really what I like about TH-cam: Quality of the mind
Videos with the adverts before they start is actually up to the video owner there's a tick box in the video editing area. Just incase you ever change your mind =]
@LeetMetalhead
Pop metal? And I have no clue what I am talking about? How can you be absolutely sure that those two bands didn't just want to try something else instead of satisfying a greater audience? So what are bands that go from deathcore to deathmetal? Reverse sell outs? People always have their explanation ready when in fact it's all guessing.
coffee sounds good right about now haha
im really liking the positive outlook your last few videos have. not to say your other ones are negative in any way of course but its good to see someone with a brain in the metal scene and not elitest.
cheers from canada!
@Loves2spooge696
Haha don't worry, but thanks!
;-)
after that especially from Below the Lights to Axioma Ethica Odini they changed tone, and added clean vocals to some parts of the song, added keyboard effects and some orchestral elements..
but they still in my opinion managed to touch on their root sound on each album in some way
...[continue to next post]
I like this guy. This is the kinda person who keeps metal fresh after 35-40 years of it's existence. The guys who stick with metal through the 90's and 2000's pretty much stick with metal forever. Long Live Rock and Roll!!!
@thijsben
Dank je wel man, goed om te horen dat mensen het waarderen.
;-)
@mastercrowly
As in, 'every coffee tastes the same' ?
That's definitely not true
As much as I love your current intro, this will always be my favorite :)
@pinkgod85
Well I mean illegal downloading.
;-)
@Statix94
I like some Korn songs indeed..;-)
Sometimes a band that THE MASSES don't know about can be very special then they go big and it's not the same anymore. It's like going to your favorite apple tree everyday that nobody has seen before and it's very special to you, then when people find out about and start picking apples from that special tree of yours, it's not really that special anymore.
that part about examples of you selling out made me laugh really hard hahaha. it made my day.
Awesome video as always! I am finding more and more good bands because of your channel. Please keep it up Ed!
Really Ed? Every Video? Why do they all have to be so perfect? You're Awesome Man :D
I love having coffee with you in the morning (and by that i mean watching you talk to a camera with coffee in the evening)
@blasphemator
No because it's the same people, only maybe with a different sound.
I think a name does not represent a certain music ( that would be the genre ) but the group of people who make the music. And maybe my example isn't the best one..but you could ofcourse try a little effort and try to understand my point.
My friend, you are the wisest metalheads I've ever seen.
16:55 "Ferrum Aeternum" and 18:02 "Sword Chant". both by the Finnish folk metal band Ensiferum. My favorite band! Good taste in music you guys! Can't wait for their new album! :D
well its relly cool that the colombia guys contacted you .... im from colombia too!!! and here are a lot of emmm kinda "true metalheads" they think exactcly what are you saying, that a litle change in a musical direction it´s selling out, but those kind of "metalheads" dosn´t really support the local scene, they try to enter free to the shows, even if it´s in a club on in a bar and more stuff like that... but it also has great people who really support the metal in all their ways... cheers
Ofcourse, those are pretty known bands
@TheGrandLier
Just my personal opinion about it.
;-)
@Withindarkwings
1,89 Meters.
There's a difference between changing your style because you want, and playing something you don't like for money.
In most cases, you're dead on though.
@fetahans
In which way?
screw all the haters and trolls that wanna hate on your vids. you're just explaining what selling out is and saying what other people say.i like the fact that you would still support a band even if they changed up their music style. and as always everyones entitled to their own opinion and people should just quit being trolls
@morpheusplaysguitar
Still I don't want to be partner anymore.
The Only reason why I wanted it was to make longer video's, but that's already possible.
And if I get back twice that they deny my request then fuck it...
Gamer+Metalhead+Smart+Nice person, you sir are my hero !
singing about that she stopped leaking from the bottom... that was killer move! ;d
and those cards are good time savers on concerts or anywhere just like You said, making them was good idea, and also they look cool, lol most of acquisitor's, agents or personal business cards doesn't look that badass. Greetings \m/
Probably.....so the point is?
That intro is freaking brutal, love it
Everytime I see your videos at night, I get myself a cup of coffee, and watch your videos xD
hahaha loved how you spoke: master of puppets ;'D made me grin very hard
cheers!
Ed, there is a skip ad button that you could tap..this will get rid of the advert
The thing that I hate is when I'm watching a video and a little over a minute ( it could be less time than that) and a advert for something that is completely unrelated to the video gets on my last nerve & ruins the vidclip.
I wish that I had one of those cards! Too bad I can't get to Amsterdam to run into the Infidel and ask him for one.
Haha ja 1979 was ik er al.
En dank je wel, blij dat je de videos leuk vind. Er komen er nog veel meer.
You should make a coffee chain reaction thing with a whole bunch of metalheads on youtube...
That'd be a sick promotional video, like all the people make movies, and the description can have all the youtube names..
you know, promotion, it's not like you're selling out to coffee or anything XD
Exactly, same thing goes with Korn, when in reality each of their albums has a different sounds while still maintaining the korn sound.
BUT! the thing is that sometimes bands really do sell out because when they are signed, the record labels sometimes like try to change the sound of the bands and shit and usually make them softer.
selling out is california metalfest line up this year .
you know when i watch videos like this (espiecally videos of infidentamsterdam)...it makes me wonder..why are all the people that carry the same or similar mentalities as me always live nowhere close to me...im stuck here in KSA to rot with the most ignorant, stubborn, simple minded, stereotypical people i ever knew.
Eds best ability is that he shows metalheads true respect.
You got a package from Columbia filled with powdery content... i think the customs in the Netherlands looked twice on that one! =P
Elvis's sound changed all the time and nobody said he sold out. On the other hand, The Who kept saying never trust people at a certain age and when they reached that age and kept playing then that was selling out.
Other acts that changed their sound and then went famous:
Madonna was a Blondie style rocker chick.
I feel strange. Ed, wearing a T-shirt of Deivos, band from Lublin, my small hometown from Poland.
Come to think of it, I do get annoyed when people say that All That Remains are sellouts because of their latest albums.
You familiar with Scion A/V, they've been promoting a ton of underground bands. A friend of mine claimed bands who go through here are sellouts. such bands are Sleep, Macgrudergrind, and Anaal Nathrakh. My knowledge about scion helped me understand this video more.
