I can imagine, Rachel dressed in all white in all that snow with red lips and her bright read hair! that alone would be both stunning and scary for some kids who have never seen a foreigner haha
This comment needs more likes. I really appreciate how the ending shot wasn't "just" a drone shot, but also had great cinematic planning. Zooming out from them, to reveal the castle, to then zoom out more and reveal the city. Superb.
So I looked it up real quick and our Krampus is only to be found in the areas of old Österreich-Ungarn/Austro-Hungary. So I'm kinda surprised to find this comment so far up.
高木正弘 im swiss and we have so much snow... It looks beautiful when the sun shines, but when it storms and is very cold, it's no fun. Also, the sun goes up at like 8am and sets already at 5 pm... 😅
I live in south Texas, so I haven't seen ANY snow for the winters I've been here... I know it's crazy to people who see snow every winter but I honestly miss it. I used to have so much fun when I was a kid XD
woah guys - the quality of this video was amazing! Beautiful shots of Akita and the snow - the camera seemed so crisp! Plus the drone shots were beautiful. The voiceovers were so funny and enjoyable and i learned a lot from this video but it was still super fun to watch! It made me want to go abroad to Japan and visit myself :) Thank you Rachel and Jun, you guys really made an effort with this video and it paid off so much, well done! ps Jun, i think your snow angel was beautiful... but you might wanna work on your technique if you wanna impress your wife :P

hahahaha at one point we interviewed the shokunin who built the kamakura snow huts and one of them asked me a question, and I had to look at Jun for a translation and he repeated it in standard Japanese, and then everyone else made fun of him for translating Japanese into different Japanese so I could understand it lol. Yeah Akita-ben was pretty rough!! haha
hahaha I feel that. Jun is amazing for understanding it! I pretty much ended up replying んだから to everything since I had no idea what was going on and it was the only thing I could remember hahah
It sounds like in America when my friends from the midwest come to visit me in Boston and they hear some real local accents where they can't pronounce the "R" sound and it comes out as "AW" and when they say "wicked pissa" I have to translate that just means "awesome!"
I must say that I really like this new style of video from you guys! Having the two of you provide the commentary in a conversational matter really makes it stand out!
I always find interesting that cultures all over the world have kind of the same festival's and ceremonies. I'm Hopi Native American and we have a ceremony were soyokos come to each of our houses in the village and demand food from everyone, young and old to pay for life for another year. they also know of the children have been bad and threaten to eat them if they don't correct their bad behavior.
I started watching Jun's kitchen because of your gorgeous jerk cat who I can't remember the name of and now I'm just obsessed with all your channels. Japan is so fascinating to me and also the amazing way you can both switch languages. It's incredible.
seriously, there is a Kami(japanese shintoism god) in toilet as well. nowaday its like a urban legend, however if you would clean toilet, your face will be beautiful according to the legend.
Nice video! As I like seeing more of Japan cultural events and I have a lot of love for the kamis and yokais of Japanese folklore, I was really happy watching this video with all those onis!! Thank you! And of course, the drone view is just amazing! It was really beautiful in Jun's last video too. I'm looking forward to the next ones!
This brings back some good memories from my trip last year to several winter festivals in Aomori and Akita prefecture. The Oga Namahage Sedo Matsuri was probably my favorite, although the Yokote Bonden was also pretty weird...
Haha, that's a job I could do - being a Namehage. But i scare small kids with my face normally, so I probably wouldn't need to dress up for it :D (I work as a teacher's aide btw) Also, those drone shots of the snow are soooo pretty ♥
This is really a beautiful video because of its winter scenery, so while your title might be apt for the scene with those cool costumes (you were genuinely scary, Rachel! hahaha), there's so much more here. There's one shot of about five seconds where the snow is falling on a forest: I really loved that and could watch it for hours. I gather you have a drone now too, so the overhead shots of your making snow angels is exciting. You've gone way beyond the average TH-camr because you're now making not only topically interesting videos, but also visually interesting videos. Maybe your fortune comes from that tree you got to touch. That was cool. It reminded me of the heart trees in Game of Thrones. Thanks! :)
Don't be! There are plenty of people who travel to Japan knowing no Japanese at all. Of course it's harder to get around and you rely a lot more on hand signals and asking people for help, but I believe you get more opportunities to interact with Japanese people that way anyway. :)
Check out AbroadInJapan's channel. He moved to Japan with no knowledge of the Japanese language and only his British sarcasm to get by. Over a year he developed a greater understanding of the Japanese language and only a minor drinking problem.
We have very similiar traditions here in Switzerland :D even the costumes look very alike :D they go around at night and "steal" children and things :P
satireknight nope. Krampus is german and is a christmas thing :) ours is in the frane of Carnival/Fasnacht but with scary masks. It is not the same in all regions but the one that is most similar is the Wallis "Tschäggättä" i have never been but this is basically the most "traditional" attempt of Carnival in Switzerland :)
As an "aargauer" (swiss) guy I can agree the masks and the costumes look extremely close to the ones from our Guggemusig and Fasnachts guys :) (I dont really know anithyng about the storys behind them except for that I think its partially to scare kids and Fasnacht is to scare away the cold from the winter or something)
+Robert Amison They are Perchten also in Austria. Krampus is like the special one that visits the homes with Nikolaus, but Perchten roam the streets and make like lokal processions. I am really amazed at how similar they look, though. instead of bast clothes they have fur clothes but the overall look is similar.
Wow! That festival... there's an almost identical one in Finland, although not preserved as well. It was called "kekripukki" or "nuuttipukki" I think, and sometimes it worked in reverse with children dressing up as ogres and going house-to-house to sing, receiving treats in return. So it's kinda like a multi-task christoween. Mas. Thing.
I didn't know Japan had snow any time of the year, until I was finished school and watched a documentary about Japan. We really know so little about other countries, especially those which are not English-speaking. This was beautiful to see. I'm a snow person here in Ontario, Canada. I'd enjoy seeing Japan in the winter.
The more i learn of the Japanese culture the more I fall in love . You guys are great and make my small corner of the world seem bigger thank you very much ^-^.

was just watching juns latest video on juns kitchen then this came up on my screen and i was trying to magically speed up his video without skipping it😂😂
Hi R&J, I just found your channel this week. I recently had a spinal surgery and I'm dealing with post op stuff now, and it's been a really stressful time for me. I started watching more TH-cam videos while I'm supposed to be resting and I ended up coming across your channel. I watched quite a few of your videos and I just wanted to say that you brought a smile to my face. Thanks for making a stressful time for me a little easier. :)
I'm fairly sure Rachel's *CORN SOUP* left me more shook than the actual monsters. I came for scary, but found myself transported and mesmerized by the beautiful snowy scenery.
I'll have to Remeber this and it explains alot of how Kindergarteners react to scary faces. I recently moved to Tochigi Prefecture as a Kindergarten teacher. So this might come in handy to know and make sure little ones are doing their English homework! ^-^
Rachel & Jun Thank you for the advice! Love you guys and your videos for some time now. I'm happy to say after 2 years of getting ready and preparing to find a job and preparing for the move, I've finally made it to Japan! ^-^
5:26 I can't help but wonder if Rachel really caught Jun off-guard. Also, I can't get over how Rachel has come to master the Japanese language so well, she spontaneously switches to it to encourage Jun to try harder.
Your channel's shots and content are all so good! I'm so confused why these videos doesn't have enough views! Great job by the way! The snow angel shot was awesome.
It’s so beautiful!! How did you film it at the end when you’re doing snow angels and the camera slowly goes higher and finally shows the view from the sky??
I got excited when I saw Akita!! I'm actually studying in Akita and I have no idea where to go or anything about the festivals here!! Thanks for sharing this video. I guess I'll have to try kamakura next year since winter is already over in Akita :(
Btw what the Namahage are shouting at the festival is "ARE THERE ANY NAUGHTY KIDS HERE"
And "ARE THERE ANY CRYBABIES HERE"
😂😂😂
Rachel & Jun 😂😂😂😂😂😂 thanks for sharing this with us
Like the Krampus in Europe....scaring naughty children. www.truthsayer.info/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Krampus5.jpg
"naughty" kids ;) (sorry XD)
Rachel & Jun That was so cool and beautiful!! Thank you for showing us it all!

You guys are getting too good at this, that last shot is cinematic! °o°
This comment needs more likes. I really appreciate how the ending shot wasn't "just" a drone shot, but also had great cinematic planning. Zooming out from them, to reveal the castle, to then zoom out more and reveal the city. Superb.

Asfandyar Saleem Butt i wonder how they film it that way? are you using little helicopter to bring your camera filming from above, rachel?
i see. thanks!

Japanese Krampus.

Dora Špoljar not really babayaga
I love how in the ending shot Jun falls and Rachel just laughs at him! 😂
Lol it looks like Jun's snow angel is wearing bell bottoms XD
Jun... you really gotta up your snow angel game.
I'm not mad, just disappointed.
Lol! Really, awkward body movements make awkward snow angels. Really funny, though!
"Son, I'm disappoint."
The child screaming in the beginning was everything😂
that forest shot at 4:37 looks amazing.

Title: A day in Akita
That snow is so beautiful! We didn't get much snow in Seoul this winter..... :(
Are snowy winters typical there?
snow is very annyoing thing in Japan.
that is not entertaining but just life.
高木正弘 im swiss and we have so much snow... It looks beautiful when the sun shines, but when it storms and is very cold, it's no fun. Also, the sun goes up at like 8am and sets already at 5 pm... 😅

krid23 That ending was beautiful. I love all their drone shots.

I love seeing Rachel in snowy places because her hair contrasts the white of the snow really well and she looks like a model! I'm sure Jun agrees!

**shows scary intro**
**then shows love-y dubby text and music afterwards**
Yep that seems correct!
*Rachel on the ground*
Jun helps her get up.
*Jun falls on the ground*
Rachel laughs.

was just watching juns latest video on juns kitchen then this came up on my screen and i was trying to magically speed up his video without skipping it😂😂
It looks absolutely breathtaking. The landscape is so beautiful.
"COFFEEEEEE"
"CORN SOUP"
Ahhh! I’ve been trying to find the video where Rachel said in a sing-song voice “one of these things is not like the other” for so long, finally!
CORRRN SOUP!!!! i died
Rip
Jun falling in the snow at the end was probably the cutest thing i've seen all day
Wow! Japan is beautiful, especially a snow laden Japan! 😁
Lisa I hope you realize Japan killed it’s people and put them into camps in world war 1
Best couple!
haha different areas have different types of "Namahage" so ask the other teachers if they have something particular in that region they use!
Rachel & Jun Thank you for the advice! Love you guys and your videos for some time now. I'm happy to say after 2 years of getting ready and preparing to find a job and preparing for the move, I've finally made it to Japan! ^-^
Ahhhhhhh I love the music playing during all the long shots of the snow and winter scenes! Feels really magical.
5:26 I can't help but wonder if Rachel really caught Jun off-guard. Also, I can't get over how Rachel has come to master the Japanese language so well, she spontaneously switches to it to encourage Jun to try harder.
5:31 I WAS LITTERALY LAUGHING SO HARD CHINA COULD HERE ME
Your channel's shots and content are all so good! I'm so confused why these videos doesn't have enough views! Great job by the way! The snow angel shot was awesome.
It’s so beautiful!! How did you film it at the end when you’re doing snow angels and the camera slowly goes higher and finally shows the view from the sky??
With a drone
Loving all the new drone shots, they are stunning! The very end of the video was just so darn cute also! :D
The beginning with all the people in the costumes reminded me of Where the Wild Things Are😂
@1:09 sweet corn soup in vending machines never ceases to amuse me.
Nothing like a bursted ear drum and bad dreams after watching this video
what a beautiful city..and your go-pro footage is lovely
Rachel you should do screamo lmao
hahahaha
The last shot is so adorable!!!! When you both fell in the snow lol #goals
So...kind of like Krampus?
I got excited when I saw Akita!! I'm actually studying in Akita and I have no idea where to go or anything about the festivals here!! Thanks for sharing this video. I guess I'll have to try kamakura next year since winter is already over in Akita :(
I love hearing you speak japanese!!!
Oh my Gosh, your videos are getting so so sooooo much more beautiful! Your work is wonderful!!
秋田県出身としてはわざわざ見に来てくれる人がいることが嬉しいですね(^-^)
