No... But they still have the talent to be a playoff team. But unless they allow Orji to be a complete QB. They need Jack Tuttle to take over when he is healthy. Hoping for the best, but no matter what, God's blessings each day bring greater joy than any Michigan win.

Wit the transfer portal the way it is now I don’t understand how a school fresh off a National Championship 9 months ago have this problem at the QB position
Michigan fan here, and that’s ALMOST perfectly accurate. The only real QB we have is the freshman Davis, who they’ll never consider playing this season
It all starts up front. When Warren has time, he's fine, when he gets pressure he's terrible. Losing 6 OL to the NFL, the drop off up front has been the biggest challenge for Michigan's offense. On defense, the first string DL is great but there is no depth there like there was last year. Also they are starting a true freshman opposite Will Johnson who is not ready and teams pick on him all game. Wink is not a college DC and the new OC is not running an offense that caters to their personnel. Sherrone is a great OC but he's not calling plays anymore.
Agree with everything you said Joel! One other thing that is uncharacteristic of their previous style of play is penalties, on both the offense and defense. They can’t afford this.

I was team warren all summer. They need a guy that can convert 3rd downs and protect the ball, not just tuck and run. But warren apparently can't protect the ball, so I'm all in on orji at this point
Yeah, Warren really only made sense under the assumption he could protect the football. Orji will likely throw some head scratching picks too, but at least he can scramble for a 1st down here or there, if his first read isn't open.
Joel, you F’n NAILED IT. Great analysis/insight. Especially on defense - I don’t like this brand, DB’s getting beat (not looking for the ball) and seeing “pockets” of field coverage (opposite of the cohesive/team style you reference). The biggest error of judgement in Moore’s start as HC is that he didn’t go out and get a QB transfer, with how lacklustre the talent is in the QB room and how active the cfb QB market is, it seems like a no-brainer.
@@paulidson1483 neither can Warren. 3 picks is unacceptable. Not to mention the OL hasn’t been great and he’s a sitting duck, at least Orji can make some things happen with his legs
The Deffensive side is what really is the most disappointing part of the seasson so far and nobody is putting the pressure on them or Wink, its all being thrown at the QB position but last I saw was Texas shredding that Mich D on series 1.
With all due respect to Warren. It was obvious how bad he was going to be by halftime. Orji is the best shot imo we havent gotten enough throws from him in game to see how good his arm is.
Like I said before the season that team up north ceiling is 10-2 and I put their bottom at 8-4 so I said 9-3 but if they don't figure it out FAST they could end up 7-5! Losses to ( Texas already happened ) USC, Oregon, TOSU and if they don't fixed things FAST a loss on the road to a far less talented team such as Illinois or Indiana 💯
Teams rarely break out of who they are three weeks in without a miracle. M doesn't have an Arch Manning on the bench. So I'm leaning towards 8-4 or 7-5.
This year's defense is starting to remind me of the Don Brown years. Those did not fair well against OSU. USC looks a lot like OSU... Fingers crossed we get it sorted out, asap.
This Michigan team looks at a MAC-level on offense. The fact that the two G5 opponents were competitive games along with the blowout loss to Texas is very discouraging for followers of the team. I knew there would be a drop off from last year, but I don’t think anyone was expecting it to be this big. Of the 9 conference games how many of those games would I be confident in saying Michigan will definitely win? 2? 3? Is 6-6 too pessimistic?
@@GBU61 The Arkansas State game was not competitive, as Arkansas State was down by double digits since mid-2Q and Michigan led by 18+ points from halftime to garbage time (backups scored last 15 points for Arkansas State). But you are right otherwise. I would say that the only guaranteed win atm is Northwestern as their offense might be worse than Michigan's. The USC game will show if 8+ wins is still possible or if Michigan struggles to make a bowl.
Dono is not a power back like Mullins or Corum. He is a speed/elusive back. If the O line can't make a hole for him to run through, he's going to get stuffed. The reason Mullins has been having more success is because when he runs into a wall, he's strong enough to break tackles and drag a couple players a few yards before they take him down.
Donovan was never consistently a big yardage gamer. Maybe 4 plays per game get big yards. He's excellent when there is a big hole to run thru, but he's slow to get started and goes down at first contact. I will give him credit for uncharacteristically grinding for extra yards last weekend.
My thing is this Navy or Army could make the playoffs with the schedule both have with just Notre Dame and themselves on it. They both run the ball. Notre Dame QB has no passing TD's but is the second leading rusher on the team. Alex can throw but the coaching staff have to put him in the best situation to be successful. I think we can beat USC if we slow the game down and make it an phone booth game.
Watching Michigan kinda feels like watching USC after Pete Carroll left for Seattle. They wont be nearly as bad bc they aren't facing the same kind of repercussions as we did. But they look like they don't have an identity.
Let’s scrap the passing game as a whole. I want Orji at WB and the 5 skill players to be Edwards, Mullings, Bredeson, Loveland, Klein. Heavy sets, run every play and have the occasional play action in the flat or TE’s up the seam/deep middle. I’m convinced that’s the only plan that will keep this offense on the field longer and from turning the ball over.
I think people are missing that wink is trying to get the 2-3-4 string defense as many snapsv as they can.... i had to rewatch the games. Not pretty final score but experience in game matter
I think you'ree missing something. ALL we ever heard last year was how much rotating was done on defense and they still held teams down and won every game
The amount of effort Joel had to put into what-ifs for Michigan is all the evidence anyone should need. Just last yr so team oriented, cohesive, complimentary, confident…almost like you knew what play was coming next Bad recruiting and no philosophy?… but how? 15-0 to this Joel?
Im not sure what they were thinking hiring Wink as coordinator. It never worked with Don Brown as coordinator so im not sure why they would go hire a guy that literally does the exact same thing that Don Brown did.
College football is tough to watch. My team recently “changed” and it sure is hard to get behind a lot of the kids… because I don’t have anything invested in anyone. On top of it, we seem worse off. I don’t get how anyone can compete with teams who have u limited booster money because they’ll always get better players. My school looks a little silly trying to run these same offenses, when we are going to ALWAYS get lower caliber players. Sure, our kids usually graduate, don’t get arrested, and act like adults…. But we’ll never win consistently ever again unless we sink to new lows.
Joel, it's incredibly dishonest to speak about Michigan's performance and coaching prowess over the last few years without even mentioning that they are embroiled in the biggest on-field cheating scandal in CFB history... It's like speaking about how awesome Lance Armstrong was while ignoring the fact that he was heavily doping the whole time.
Even if they tweak the defense, which i think they can and think they have the right pieces, the offense is a huge concern. Obviously the QB situation, but also edwards cant break tackles. His vision and patience has improved, but if they cant get him the ball in space consistently, they have to ride mullings. Also, the WRs are either really bad, not trying, or they dont know how to use them. Other than loveland, there isnt a goto guy like they had with roman wilson, and little to no deep threat. Probably too much to fix before the USC game.
while i agree this year is a huge problem for Michigan's QB room, i think the larger issue for Sherrone is going to be changing the way QB recruits view Michigan. the last three recruiting classes have been duds in terms of new QBs and the future doesn't look bright with a run-heavy offense.
They made the call to make the change at quarterback yesterday. You should have seen that and edited this video accordingly. To say multiple times you don’t know what they are going to do at quarterback looks bad.
They played conplimentary football also with a little help from spying on other teams games in previous seasons as we have come to find out. But this drastic change in blitzing may be causing a hardship on this season's Michigan defense. If TYexas was able to expose this, you better believe USC can also due to an offense that is siilar to Texas. Good luck Wink!
Cute and osu fan with a casual take.. how about the 5 ranked wins After the so called cheating came out? Osu fans so desperate for an excuse soft egos a bit bruised
MIchigan's QB problem began when JJ declared and when JH left in late January with ¾ of the staff. By that time, the remaining QB's in the portal were not top notch. Michigan fans need to give Sherron Moore a break, and some time. It is what it is.
Michigan makes the playoffs if: 1) They run a Wing T offense 2) Wink stops Don Browning 3) The kicker gets more opportunities 4) The O line suddly learns to become masons and builds a brick wall to take their place.
Michigan's defense was predicated on running the ball and keeping their stacked defense off the field, which was loaded 9 deep on the D line last year. They are no where near as deep and their offense can't stay on the field, that is a recipe for a tired, irritated defense. I feel Sherrone may have been playing not to lose, which I get, no one wants to lose to Fresno State. The Texas game and Arkansas State game on the other hand, one you're a heavy underdog and going to lose anyway most likely and the other the opposite. He should be playing to get into the playoffs with the high ceiling guy (Orji), instead he's trying to go 8-4 instead of 6-6 with the 6th year walk on (Warren). He has at least 2 years before he gets any heat. Any Michigan fan with a brain knows he lost 18 starters. Orji needs to play, if its a bad year so be it, he will have more experience next year, unless he sucks in which case they can go portal shopping or see if Jadyn Davis is ready yet.
start the game passing the ball. that will open up the running game. with a loaded box running backs and a running quarterback will have a hard time moving the ball. lets give jack a try . he has experience
We tried to tell you Klatt. They were good because of Stalions and Covid 7th that seniors. Michigan didn’t recruit well enough to compete. They are just average. Maybe below average as a program.
In the world of transfer portals how is it possible for the defending national champions not to have one single competent Quarterback on their roster.. Both of the Arkansas State QBs were better than any QB on Michigan’s roster
This is a very good team. It’s the coaching staff.. These players aren’t taught any kind of discipline mentality or physically. Wink is not studying opposing teams game tapes like Jesse did. This is all poor coaching and development.
Michigan put all its eggs in the basket to win the 2023 title with no regard for what happens afterwards to the program. It's pretty easy to step back and look at everything that has happened (some that were in motion well before 2023) that the 2024 program is vastly different than the previous years. Stallions jokes aside. One of the most frustrating things personally for me is how Michigan continues to miss on getting top tier QB recruits or skill position recruits. Its all well and good if you want to focus on getting OL/DL recruits but at the end of the day you NEED top talent at the QB, RB and WRs. Michigan has not brought in a solid QB recruit in several years outside of JJ and it shows in more ways than one. In today's style of football if you don't have a dynamic offense you will struggle to win games. Michigan doesn't need to revert back to the Rich Rod experiment BUT they do need to change their ways of getting top tier talent at the most important positions. Every single program that is winning meaningful games has a solid QB surrounded by top tier skill players that were 4/5 star recruits. Michigan seems to always land these 3/4 star recruits that maybe 50% of the time play at or below that level but expect them to play like a 5 star............just do what you have to do to get the 5 star guys!!!! Don't recruit 3/4 star QB's then sit them on the bench for 3 years "developing" them to then throw them into their first games as a Junior just to watch them struggle. Again, outside of JJ, Michigan has totally botched the QB position for years and thats where it needs to start.............look at the success the team to the south has had once they get that top tier QB......
They're also missing an intricate off campus scouting aparatus, along with half the coaching staff that would be facing punishment. But yeah, a QB would help too.
Will Michigan look like the team from last season again?

The Deffensive side is what really is the most disappointing part of the seasson so far and nobody is putting the pressure on them or Wink, its all being thrown at the QB position but last I saw was Texas shredding that Mich D on series 1.
With all due respect to Warren. It was obvious how bad he was going to be by halftime. Orji is the best shot imo we havent gotten enough throws from him in game to see how good his arm is.
Did they get Connor back? If not, Michigan has a QB problem, line problem, backfield problem etc.
Make Stalions the QB. I know some Scarlet & Gray BEASTS who want a shot at him. hehehe
Yes losing your entire coaching staff and almost 1/2 your starters let alone every key position doesn’t have anything to do with it.
@@briancox7317 That certainly multiplies the problem of persistent, multi-year unethical leadership at UM.
People see Arkansas St. and think a cupcake but they are actually a fairly solid G5 team.
0:05 look at the bottom headline. “I’m Ron Burgundy?”
I said that too
the defense concerns me more
This Michigan team looks at a MAC-level on offense.
Fork in the road analogy is spot on
Absolutely
It was a great analogy, and they didn’t pick one do the roads because they no longer know how to read signs. They just drive right off the road.
@@strechinpick tell me you know nothing about football without actually saying you know nothing about football lol
Are we also gonna talk about Donovan Edwards playing pretty poorly so far? As well as the O-Line. They seem suspect all around
Controversy JK???? We just need ONE to QB in A2.
Watching Michigan kinda feels like watching USC after Pete Carroll left for Seattle. They wont be nearly as bad bc they aren't facing the same kind of repercussions as we did. But they look like they don't have an identity.
He kills me with this "get beat" / "be beat" stuff. "Beaten."
fight on
Let’s scrap the passing game as a whole.
Yeah Warren needs to be a quarterback who protects the ball. Don’t take a risky throw while getting tackled. Throw it away! That’s a good quarterback
I think it's getting more and more obvious that Michigan needs to make Conner Stalions their head coach!
You didn't have to blitz much when you knew the play that was coming.
They had Connor Stallions for almost all of those games. It wasn't some brilliant scheme Harbaugh dreamed up.
That team was legit last year. Cohesive team and complementary football won them their season.
The amount of effort Joel had to put into what-ifs for Michigan is all the evidence anyone should need.
Just last yr so team oriented, cohesive, complimentary, confident…almost like you knew what play was coming next
Bad recruiting and no philosophy?… but how?
Michigan fan here. We're toast.
It’s shame their quarterback can’t just hand off the ball like they did for the past 3 years.
Can it dude, you really are uninformed as to what you’re talking about.
Might as well give Jadyn Davis (4 star freshman) a chance.
Spot on Joel
Harbaugh left a vacuum only filled by NCAA investigators.
while i agree this year is a huge problem for Michigan's QB room, i think the larger issue for Sherrone is going to be changing the way QB recruits view Michigan. the last three recruiting classes have been duds in terms of new QBs and the future doesn't look bright with a run-heavy offense.
That's not on Moore, that's all Harbaugh..Moore locked up Davis and Hart.
A rookie Michigan QB about to start against one of the hottest defense USC. Its going to be nothing but sacks come this Saturday
They made the call to make the change at quarterback yesterday. You should have seen that and edited this video accordingly. To say multiple times you don’t know what they are going to do at quarterback looks bad.
I’ve been screaming at the TV every time they blitz like that. Ridiculous
The score of the Fresno State game wasnt indicative of the game either Joel, that was a lot closer than the final score
I’m sure the cheating had ZERO to do with anything . The mediocre football before it started and the mediocre football after it ended lol
The formula for michigan to be good every year has been lost and will never come back after Jim left. Period
As a usc fan I still see a close game
Michigan makes the playoffs if:
1) They run a Wing T offense
2) Wink stops Don Browning
3) The kicker gets more opportunities
4) The O line suddly learns to become masons and builds a brick wall to take their place.
No
Go Blue
They miss Connor Stallions more than anything.
What happened to Tuttle?
And the defense was playing 2-3rd string getting them reps because we have no depth. That’s when they scored the most
start the game passing the ball. that will open up the running game. with a loaded box running backs and a running quarterback will have a hard time moving the ball. lets give jack a try . he has experience
We tried to tell you Klatt. They were good because of Stalions and Covid 7th that seniors. Michigan didn’t recruit well enough to compete. They are just average. Maybe below average as a program.
Michigan needs to pick a QB.
The State of Ohio needs to stop eating dogs!
15000 immigrants from Haiti sent to a town of 60,000 by the Biden administration ate animals
