This spectograph reveals so many things about The Deep Note that are interesting. I'll go by sections and explain each one and how it may affect The Deep Note sound. Section 1 is from the start of the video to 0:07. All of the audio channels, frequencies, pitches, etc. are all muddled up together and overlapping in this section which makes the audio overall seem low, from both a volume and quality persepctive. It is kinda a representation of the audio before THX starts "sorting" and "organizing" all of the channels, frequencies, ptiches, etc. Section 2 is from 0:07 to 0:15. This section is where THX slowly starts sorting and organizing everything about the audio, with the organizing process increasing just after the 15 second mark (go frame by frame with , and . on the keyboard on your computer to see what I mean) Section 3 is from 0:15 to 0:21. Most of the organization is being done in this section and some higher frequencies are added as well. You can actually notice around 0:16 when the Deep Note starts becoming higher pitched and where the extra audio is added in from the lines at the top. Also if you look closely at all of the lines while listening closely to the audio, there are 4 times where the channels, frequencies, and pitches cross paths. The final time happening at 0:20. And finally, section 4 is 0:21 until the end. The sorting and organizing is done, and while some of the lines do merge into one, they are now in a mostly straight line and not overlapping like in section 1. Making the audio higher from a volume and quality perspective. Which is kinda amazing, because The Deep Note is actually really symbolic for what THX does and how it came to be. Theaters way back in the day probably had audio similar to section 1, enter THX (George Lucas, Andy Moorer, and Tomlinson Holman) with the process of sections 2 and 3, and the final result is section 4 with way better and more clear audio. The Deep Note, when I was a kid, was scary. I knew nothing about Audio Quality or Sound Processing when I was 7 years old wanting to watch Cars for the umpteenth time. So of course when the logo came up I would always run and hide. But now as an adult, I am continued to be fascinated by the logo, history, and everything about THX.
"Organizing Process"??? It's literally just synth frequencies diverging. It's like you've never seen a spectrograph of an audio signal before. The frequencies "added in from the top" are phantom frequencies that result from the interference of all the other frequencies. "Sorting and organization" man, what are you smoking? It's just overlapping synths spreading out their frequencies in an interesting-sounding way, and this is the Fourier transform of that signal.
It starts as 30 random frequencies that each oscillate 3 times, slower each time, and then all slide to the final position which is 10 notes (3 voices per note slightly de-tuned) plus one bass note. The sheet music is cool!
@@edj9202 I believe the original was 40 individual unique tones which slide to the final note in octaves. Weirdly, it was never written as music, but instead it's defined by a mathematical expression.
Best Sound. Best Picture. You’re watching a THX certified feature.
The audience is listening
WhAAAAAT?!

When you work with sound, it's a beautiful thing.
that's a wicked album cover

Did you study classical music or had contact with Classical music Academia?

Ahh I see it now. It's so satisfying because some of it's going up and some of it's tuning down... they cross paths then land on the chord. Nice.
so THAT'S why it's called a "wall of sound"
No wonder It's mesmerizing
