    one good thing about this deep note is that it shows the audience what the current sound system is capable of doing in terms of the frequency range because the sound system demonstrates you the deep bass. It also prepares you to the volume level.

    My parents have surroundsound speakers at their house, my dad used to CRANK the volume when this came on at the beginning of movies. The whole entire house would shake, and my mom and I would scream at him to stop 😂😂. He doesn't do it anymore for obvious reasons.

    I am 44 years old. I still remember to this day the first time I heard the THX Deep Note before a movie. I don't remember what movie it was for. It was sometime in the mid 80's. And it changed my life. I almost, not totally, but almost didn't care about the movie coming up. I wanted to hear that again. Over the years I remember hearing it referred to as the THZ zoom or air raid. I am just now finding out that it is called the deep note. All that aside, to this day, I still get excited when that comes on. It is transcendent, and will always be one of the coolest sounds I have ever heard in my life.

    • @xXspiellionXx
      @xXspiellionXx 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      DattMougherty _ probably the way you heard it first. If it was on very loud speakers like in the movies it might have scared one because of its sudden appearance. It also has some similarities with fire alarms and other loud sirens. I used to get scared if there was a fire drill at school because of the sudden siren, but these days i love the sound because it holds alot of feelings. Kinda weird how sound works on people.

    • @imnotshub

      i remember when i first saw it was when i was around 4 or 5 and me and my family were watching the incredibles on our new surround sound system. the dvd we had of the incredibles had the 'cavalcade' logo on it which is probably one of the worst offenders in the thx line of logos. it didnt help that my dad decided to turn up the volume mid way through the logo, and ever since then i was scared of it.
      now though, it really just unsettles me and gives me goosebumps, but the deep note is cool
      fuck disney for putting it at the start of most of their home video releases between the 90's to 2007 though

I too would run out of the room, except I would also close my eyes and ears, Scream, squeal, and shake really badly. one thing in particular was TEX the robot making an appearance; even for a second. I still get deeply disturbed by every detail of that robot! I hope I'm not the only one!

    • @Liravin
      @Liravin 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      it's just octaves and fifths stacked around 3 octaves and the highest note is somewhere between a small and a big third
      so it's basically a D (in some versions E) major chord that is also kind of a minor chord at the same time but actually none of either really, which imo is possibly the real reason it sounds so weird
      here's the sheet music

    I am curious if Dr. Moorer had heard of electronic music pioneers Paul Beaver and Bernie Krause. They came up with the sweeping-oscillators-into-a-chord motif back in the late 1960s/early 1970s. A 1970 album of theirs, "In A Wild Sanctuary", had a song called "Spaced" that used that sonic effect at the end of the song. Could that be considered "prior art"?

    I find the Deep Note as the greatest creation in synthesizer history, since how it was created is very fascinating (like imagine programming multiple frequency spreads and then a one big synthesized chord resolve). I saw a video from avant-garde sound designer LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER wherein he used 1000 oscillators (instead of multiple voices for 2 or 3 oscillators, as that's the amount of oscillators a synth usually holds) to create his own Deep Note. And the result? It's actually much, much, MUCH louder than the original deep note, due to so much oscillators being used, creating so much dissonance and chaos, until the D Major resolve (albeit it's C major in the video). So, based on this vid, many people are trying their best to recreate this iconic sound, but NOTHING, and I mean *_NOTHING_* can beat the original.

    The Deep Note, the THX sound trademark, is known for giving children nightmares when the trailer appeared on Disney's children's DVD's. These THX trailers, especially the Eclipse trailer, makes this one a candidate to the loudest cinema trailers ever, along with DTS "The Digital Experience" trailer. Despite that, the Deep Note is a cool and epic sound you'll hear in the THX Theater.

    Nice the they made a new and better version of the THX intro sound. But how does it sound like? Where can I find a sound clip of it? I have no idea how to search for the new version of it. I am curious as hell :)

    The origin of the thx sound appears in the 1979 movie When a Stranger Calls at about 12 and a half minutes into the movie

    when do they say about the THX logo giving children nightmares, or they discover that the THX logo is the King of the scary movie logos

    Didn’t someone loose the original file for the deep tone at one point? I think I heard somewhere that they spent days running the note generation program until they got a result that wasn’t identical, but close enough to use in the next logo animation.

    • @BLMT-df4on
      @BLMT-df4on 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      all what moorer had was a sun streaming tape cartridge of the jingle's patch programming file for the audio signal processing so they let lucasfilm use it for the next trailer and it was converted to 70mm and 35mm magnetic soundtrack strips often sounding muffled and softer or louder and powerful depending on each sound system format is used in thx selected/certified theatres at the time. the wings version of deep note had a lack of some voices heard at the start of the trailer that was heard later in broadway and the sound had a looped portion edited to fit with the animation begininng with two message texts on the screen before the giant blue thx logo appears staying on screen for 10 seconds and fades out to black after all the descending and ascending sounds all stop in one single chord in like d#.
