Round Midnight - Cootie Williams & Thelonious Monk

Day 248 of my daily video posting project. I have been working on this project since November 2023--posting a video of piano music every single day!
Here is another classic jazz standard: "Round Midnight" by Cootie Williams and Thelonious Monk. This version is found in "Unforgettable.. The Lighter Side of Jazz".
This version is so smooth! Thelonious Monk's piano playing features a lot more "out there" chords, it's different, but still good! I had to look up how to pronounce "Thelonious" (it's with a thuh--at the beginning in case you were wondering). I did two versions of this--I thought my first version was a little too slow when I played it back, so I re-recorded it slightly faster.
I've listened to his quartet version, and I've listened to his 1947 solo recording... It's hard making the piano sound like a saxophone--there are some nuances that just don't carry over, but I still think this is a very decent arrangement! It was interesting to hear the difference in tempos between the two recordings. Since this arrangement is slightly "emptier", I did decide to stick with the slightly faster recording...
This is exactly the type of arrangement that I would have expected to hear late at night, at some dark, smoky bar, right around midnight when magic/shenanigans happen! Enjoy!
