Two comments, would have loved to watch that same footage 40 years ago before the decline, same route, same locations, then watch it again in twenty years from now. Very well documented NEE.
Locals, how do you find living here? Is it super depressing or does it have a close knit community? Whats the crime like? Is there s problem with burglaries & car theft? I am thinking of moving to the area, I only want q quiet life & I don't need riches or glamour, but I do need a safe & friendly town.
I grew up in Easington and never have and never will vote Labour. I moved away in the late 90's for work and don't ever see myself moving back there. I remember that now demolished Catholic church being built in the early 80's. The street I grew up on was pulled down years ago as most people moved away to find work.
What a terrible piece of journalism from someone who has no idea what it was like to be there around the time of the miner's strikes and having to suffer from the aftermath of what Thatcher did

Thatcher ripped the heart out of Easington when she destroyed the Miners Livelihoods and left industrial wastelands in her wicked wake !

Not who but rather what is to blame. Look at Global capitalism, an economic system which puts money/profit first.
Welcome to paradise.
Labour have held this seat since 1922, then say no more.
Labour won by 5500 in 2024 , 35,000 didn't vote . It's on Reform radar. Jack Dormand had majorities of near 30,000 I believe.
Make no mistake we are ducked with a capital d
