    Lighting is No. 1 IMO. I occasionally need readers, mostly when the lighting is poor. So a nice lighting system that cast little shadow is invaluable for picking out details when assembling and painting.

    • @ModelMinutes
      @ModelMinutes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I put it on last place for mine as not all beginners are likely to go out and get specialist lamps just for building their first few models - perhaps sitting near a window with more natural light would be enough to start with

    Things I use -
    Swann Morton scalpels # 3 or #4 I prefer them to the Exacto type of craft knife. Have a look at www.scalpelsandblades.co.uk they have loads of different types, and have starter sets and offers
    For lighting I use two Anglepoise desk lamps with daylight bulbs, as well as the room light
    I work on the glass oven door from an old cooker. Also I have a smaller sheet of glass which I use for setting smaller painted parts & assemblies to dry, as a paint pallette, and running off some masking tape so I can trim it then lift it off with a scalpel tip
    When the glass is dirty, scrape it off with a Stanley knife blade then wash in slightly soapy warm water
    My preferred paintbrushes are Winsor & Newton Sceptre Gold 11 which are sable - synthetic mixture and Winsor & Newton University which are all synthetic
    I've had a cheap set of needle files and they've lasted for years
    My sprue cutter was only about £4 but I've sharpened the cutting edge with a needle file, and it works well
    A cheap, soft #8 brush - squirrel? camel? I use this for sweeping off plastic and filler dust when I sand down joints
