I love that this movie has a female protagonist who is so unabashedly feminine and is still smart, nice, hardworking and loyal. Plus the female friendships are pretty wholesome too. There a bit of a tiff with Vivian, but they do sort it out. But otherwise, the sorority sisters are all supportive. Its just nice not seeing the film rely too hard on a women are catty trope.

"what like it's hard?" Is not only iconic, but it would have hit Warner sooo hard cuz Warner's been working towards Harvard his whole life and later Vivian tells us he was waitlisted and daddy had to make a call, meanwhile Elle just woke up one day and decided "I don't need backups, I'm going to Harvard" and crushes the admissions requirements. Such a fun movie with some great messages (:

I personally love that Vivienne and Elle realize competing over men isn't worth it and become friends. It's pretty common for women to feel threatened by other women rather than realizing their dude is the problem, so I'm glad it was addressed

    • @MonAhgasInsomniAroELF
      @MonAhgasInsomniAroELF 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

actually i would say that it's common for that to be portrayed in movies and tv shows so much that people think it must be true to real life, when it's not. of course some women don't realize their skeezy s/o is the problem, but more often than not women support each other irl. the reality is it's often male writers/directors who push the trope that women are catty and threatened by each other and always in competition. i know of multiple women who ended up good friends with the girl their boyfriends cheated on them with (obviously the other girl hadn't known he was already with someone in those cases).
but yes, it's definitely refreshing to see movies showing women supporting women and whose writers/directors did not give in to sexist, misogynistic, or otherwise distasteful tropes.

I love how in this movie Elle was always smart and its shown throughout the beginning in the way she talks and such, She wasn't 'dumb' then started to study and suddenly 'smartened' up, she just never considered that she might actually really enjoy a 'serious' job like a lawyer because no body ever presented her that she COULD do that

I love Elle Woods for her optimism. She's a go-getter, a motivator, and so sweet. plus, she's not wrong about blonde discrimination. I have had a lifetime of experience of being treated differently because I am blonde. The dumb blonde jokes, perceived naiveté, calling you fake or even frigid, but Elle shows you are more than your first impression. You can also lean into the positive perceptions of blondes: kindness, optimism, fun, confidence, and shining like your golden hair.

I really disliked Vivienne at first too... but the more I've thought about her... I can't blame her at all. Warner SAYS that they 'broke up but got back together over the summer" ... but what if they DIDN'T break up at all and Elle was the side piece while he was in California? It explains why she was so quick to believe Elle was sleeping with Callahan to get ahead. Also her attitude earlier with tricking her at the Halloween party, saying that Elle was "awful" because... of course you're going to think that the girl that your boyfriend cheated on you with (even if she didn't know and he is totally to blame) is a terrible person! I am glad they became friends in the end.
Also, Luke Wilson is Owen Wilsons brother silly.

I've always loved the pro-feminine message with this movie. Especially because it subverts your expectations. It starts with you thinking that Elle is going to be the stereotypical ditzy blonde, but then she winds up being just as good, if not better, than most of the other characters, but she never has to sacrifice who she really is to do that. I love the fact that this girl can be absolutely gorgeous, dress fabulously, and enjoy things like fashion and make-up, while also graduating at the top of Harvard Law.

I can provide expert testimony that law students and lawyers all love this movie. 👍👍
And happily, it's really not that unrealistic by movie standards!* Just pretend Elle is in her second year by the end of the movie rather than her first -- in the US, second-year law school students can get a "baby bar card" and then they're allowed to do everything a real lawyer does, as long as a real lawyer supervises them and signs all the documents, like that guy who sounds weirdly like Owen Wilson does here.
The most unrealistic thing is how no one on either side noticed during the months leading up to trial that the prosecution's main witness had a shitty, ahem, I mean an internally inconsistent alibi. Also, Callaghan should have hired a PI to find out where Brooke actually was, regardless of whether or not Brooke felt like sharing it.
    * In real life, everything takes longer and requires a lot more paperwork, and anything interesting happens through emails going back and forth between ordinary offices well before any actual court dates. If you're surprised during a trial, you really screwed up somewhere.

And this movie is the reason I've had a 20+ year crush on Reese Witherspoon. Also, I can't think of a movie that is more about accepting others for who they are and not what you see than this one is. From start to finish that's the whole damn message. Be who you are and don't let anyone tell you you're not good enough. The whole Chuck scene is god damn perfection. Luke Wilson played that whole questioning bit spot on. We all wish we had an Elle Woods in our lives. The world would be a much better, if pinker, place.

I love this movie and I have seen every movie reaction on TH-cam. You had my favorite reaction, most guys I have seen react to this movie are very judgment of Elle.

I generally don’t like these kinds of formula films but that’s where Legally Blonde differs from many of the rest. Elle Woods doesn’t sacrifice who she is or what she’s truly like thru much of the film - the difference comes from how other people start to perceive her. We know from almost the very beginning of the movie - when the saleswoman tries to pull one over on “the dumb blonde” - that Elle is not, in fact, some stereotypical “dumb blonde caricature” - and it’s not surprising that she ultimately excels at Harvard Law School. The one lesson that she learns is to believe she’s worth more than what she originally was willing for which to settle, and that believing in herself is possibly worth more than the Harvard degree (I say possibly…)
If possible, perhaps you could also review a similar film: Miss Congeniality. That involves more of a Mt Fair Lady approach, but it still allows the geniume essence of the woman to stay true to herself.
Another two fun films - with nothing particular in common other than comedy - are Young Frankenstein and Airplane! Both are hysterically funny, extremely quotable, and the biggest difference is that they were made about 20 years apart. But just fun fun fun to watch, and I will not give up on having you review The Sure Thing. If it truly helps, there are actual Xmas scenes in the film which you claim make the film something you wish to watch.
As if you honestly like musicals, by the by, you might enjoy Holiday Inn - the movie rather than the more recent Roundabout musical on stage - as the film includes Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire and while I didn’t hate the Roundabout musical, it felt like nothing compared to the film. Esp’ly the adlibbed lines. (I’m a HUGE Fred Astaire fan, so even those films without Ginger Rogers are music to my ears…) I mention Holiday Inn bc, while you might mistakenly believe White Christmas came from the movie White Christmas, it actually first was used in Holiday Inn. Indeed, many songs that became famous were first shown in that film, and it’s funny and the dancing is amazing (shocking, I know) and the singing is not too shabby (also surprising, but of course) and not to spoil the ending to a Holiday film from 1942, but it is a happy ending during WWII. Yet a third shocker. Go off and conquer!! 🥰🥰

Did u notice that the actor playing the greasy old man in the trailer is actually the same guy who played the janitor in the breakfast club and the sisters husband in 16 candles

3:25 Not only extremely insulting to both Jackie Bouvier Kennedy Onassis and Marilyn Monroe, but also let's be honest here, like he would have ever stood a chance with either women.

The musical is amazing and gave Elle and Emmet more depth and more time for their relationship to grow. And the songs are 10/10!
