UPDATE - this did not hold up. Do not fit a polybush here. OEM BMW or alloy part if you're racing. Make sure its pressed in, not pushed in like a polybush, or it will come out...

Hey Danny.🖐 Stopping mid-sentence to show the RS6, haha, we're definitely cut from the same cloth.😁 Wearing headphones, I heard the clunk you had us listening for. Yeah, that bushing was rickety as hell. Ideally, it would have been changed back when the diff was out a while back, but hindsight is always 20/20. The Pro Tip on flipping the hacksaw blade the non-standard way was worth showing.👏 That'll help some poor guy in the future. I remember reading the brilliant Jackie Tran😂 comment a while back and I'm glad to see it stuck around. Taking the extra time to remove all the other parts seems like a pain up front, but makes the job go so much smoother. So it took a day's work to do, but the time was well spent. The M3 is a sweet machine and deserves all the effort you're putting into it.👍 Fingers crossed on the compression test. It sounds pretty healthy and hopefully the results will show it is. Have a great week ahead, mate. Cheers.

From what I have learnt from steel bolts going into Aluminium housings is to always put the threadlock nearer the bolt head side, because most people put it on the end of the bolt and that is what causes it to twist and snap if it get jammed. Also prevents the deeper threads from being damaged, If threadlock is applied nearer the head of the bolt.

I'm similarly kicking myself! I had a Quaife installed into my E92 diff and never thought to get the bushes changed at the same time! I've go-pro'd my diff while driving the car and it moves quite alarmingly! It thumps when i'm driving 'enthusiastically'. Got some poly's to go in it when i get time and the use of a lift. I've done a lot of bushes over the years and the one thing i will never do again is do them without pullers! They're not expensive and make the job soooo much easier. I've got 3 big sets of them so must have every size ever required 😂.

    • @dannyDC2

Gonna get a proper pull kit one day. I've got threaded bar and sockets for now, but one day...

Got the same on my e36 m3. Tried to loosen the axles, destroyed the torx head on diff flange bolts. Didn't have time to remove the lower arms etc. I'll do the entire axle next year. It doesn't clunk if I'm super smooth on my inputs. But yeah it sucks..

If you need any decent impact sockets Halfords Advanced do a full set for about £36 on trade discounts with a lifetime warranty and a no quibbles return policy. I’d recommend that, but they are only standard length not deep, I have the set though and they are great 👍🏼. (If you need a trade card just say you work on cars, they don’t ask for proof). Also comes with a universal impact socket adaptor too, and extension.
If you need deep impact sockets Sealey does a set model number AK5817M, for about £80 off Amazon and has a lifetime warranty if you register it online within the first 30 days, they are all deep sockets right upto 32mm, and they have a lock-on feature if you’re working on a rounded bolt. Great investment and can save you a lot of headaches.
