Jack! These modern classic Jags, especially the XJR, have been going up in price. People are seeing them as the desirable, elegant, quick, grand tour cars they are. I support you keeping this beauty sorted and on the road. I hope you have many happy years with gorgeous Jaguar. ✌️
The 2000 XJR I owned from 2012 to 2019 was the most reliable car I have ever owned, we used to call it ‘The Flying Chesterfield’ due to the most comfortable interior any of the family had ever experienced. It made my old E32 735! feel like a park bench by comparison. If I could have, I would never have parted with it.
This comments section is proof that Jag owners are nice people. Lots of positive encouragement. - We've all suffered the rust, the electrics, the bills.. - but we love the old barges like nothing else! 😃
Do NOT use LG!!! It is heavily watered down with solvent to make it spray. When you buy 5 litres, you are buying at least 2 litre of solvent. It will flash off within a short period, leaving a thin, inadequate coating. If you want proper, durable protection, get it done professionally with a compressor that sprays at 40 PSi. I run a rustproofing business, I will not divulge it’s name, or the product I use least I am accused of touting for business. LG is a gash product, and the idea that you can lie on your back on your drive and rustproof your car in a day or two. All you will achieve is a mediocre result at best.
So good to see these cars being repaired/maintained and kept on the road. They are so much better than the overly techie and soul-less modern day counterparts.
Fair play for persevering with this, Jack, great video and lovely car. But I can't help feeling grateful that my Jag is the underrated 6 cylinder 3.2, absolutely bullet proof and won't go into limp mode...❤
It's all very well using a needle gun, but what about the places that it can't reach. Surely you're just leaving that rust in situ and then spraying the LanoGuard on top of it where you haven't been able to clean it off. I would have thought that the rust will just flake off and take the LanoGuard with it leaving the surface to keep rusting? Just sayin'. 🤔
Really enjoyed the vlog but let’s be serious for a moment. This old Jag is just a money pit. The only reason you can take it on is the deals you’ve done with the people supplying the parts/ labour etc to fix it up plus of course your TH-cam income. They get a bit of exposure you get the ‘mares rate’. That’s fine. It’s not special enough to be worth any money now and in the future either. I had the 3.2 straight six XJ as a daily driver from around 2010-2013, lovely car but ruinously thirsty, 18mpg is no joke when petrol is like £8 a gallon.
I could be wrong but given a few years if you keep up with the service and ongoing restoration not only will you get your money back but you will make a profit too. Looking back at one stage I could have bought an E type requiring work for around 4,000 pounds. Now refurbished they sell for some 125,000 pounds. Only thing I would suggest is that before applying the Lanoguard I would have given the underbody a thorough wash in deionised water to wash off as much of the road salt as possible. In the corrosion reaction the road salt is not consumed but just acts as a catalyst for the rusting reaction and as it is hygroscopic will draw moisture from the air to make unprotected steel continuously rust. Found that out when lying under my Triumph Vitesse and although it hadn't rained for weeks and was a dry winters evening, there were glistening beads of water all over the rapidly thinning chassis.
The body repairs looked top quality. I wish I could find somewhere up here in Glasgow for repairs like that. Most places seem to be accident damage only - no rust.
Pop a flat kids soccer ball in the guard - pump it up and that dent would be forced out softly compared to a hammer etc . Kids pump up balls are a sweet tool for popping dents out .
Jack, first rule for us mechanics, always put the wheel under the sill & never rely just on the trolley jack (when you were fixing the dent). Surprised that the garage did not stuff a rag down the throttle body Great video👍👍👍👍👍
Damage to the inner edge of tyres can be caused by straddling those pyramid shaped road humps. Less comfortable but better to drive two wheels right over it with two in the central gap.
@@exgtt2061 from a materials and mechanical engineer with motor vehicle engineering, never trust a sill older than 3 years. That's why the dealer warranty only lasts that long. Jack. Great video - and a very worthwhile project. It seems that we move in similar circles - I’ve taken my XJ-S to Tom Lenthall and been super impressed by Rhys’s work on it. I’ve also had my wheels refurbished but Adam at Smart Rimz and been equally impressed. I like the watch that you show the work actually being done on your car - even speeded up - because it gives people like me more of an idea about what is involved which means that I can dare to consider tackling a few of the projects myself. The problem with lanolin based products is that if you're going to go through all that prep then you may as well use a proper underseal like Dinitrol 4941 rather than something that washes off throughout the year. Lanolin is a quick yearly bodge for your tractor 😂

Does the experience of driving this car make up for all the trouble? I happen to believe it is worth every penny!

Lovely car and now looking fantastic, just needing that new headlining. Would love an XJR and this shape is the best ever, so much prettier than the later X305. Looked like a nice Jensen Interceptor primed and waiting for paint next to Reggie in the bodyshop
Splendid video Jack, some cars deserve another life. If want a really good XJR, look for one from Japan or here in New Zealand.
