The 2000 XJR I owned from 2012 to 2019 was the most reliable car I have ever owned, we used to call it ‘The Flying Chesterfield’ due to the most comfortable interior any of the family had ever experienced. It made my old E32 735! feel like a park bench by comparison. If I could have, I would never have parted with it.

Do NOT use LG!!! It is heavily watered down with solvent to make it spray. When you buy 5 litres, you are buying at least 2 litre of solvent. It will flash off within a short period, leaving a thin, inadequate coating. If you want proper, durable protection, get it done professionally with a compressor that sprays at 40 PSi. I run a rustproofing business, I will not divulge it’s name, or the product I use least I am accused of touting for business. LG is a gash product, and the idea that you can lie on your back on your drive and rustproof your car in a day or two. All you will achieve is a mediocre result at best.

  • @bandidol200

It's all very well using a needle gun, but what about the places that it can't reach. Surely you're just leaving that rust in situ and then spraying the LanoGuard on top of it where you haven't been able to clean it off. I would have thought that the rust will just flake off and take the LanoGuard with it leaving the surface to keep rusting? Just sayin'. 🤔

Really enjoyed the vlog but let’s be serious for a moment. This old Jag is just a money pit. The only reason you can take it on is the deals you’ve done with the people supplying the parts/ labour etc to fix it up plus of course your TH-cam income. They get a bit of exposure you get the ‘mares rate’. That’s fine. It’s not special enough to be worth any money now and in the future either. I had the 3.2 straight six XJ as a daily driver from around 2010-2013, lovely car but ruinously thirsty, 18mpg is no joke when petrol is like £8 a gallon.

  • @aeroearth
    @aeroearth 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I could be wrong but given a few years if you keep up with the service and ongoing restoration not only will you get your money back but you will make a profit too.
Looking back at one stage I could have bought an E type requiring work for around 4,000 pounds. Now refurbished they sell for some 125,000 pounds.
Only thing I would suggest is that before applying the Lanoguard I would have given the underbody a thorough wash in deionised water to wash off as much of the road salt as possible. In the corrosion reaction the road salt is not consumed but just acts as a catalyst for the rusting reaction and as it is hygroscopic will draw moisture from the air to make unprotected steel continuously rust. Found that out when lying under my Triumph Vitesse and although it hadn't rained for weeks and was a dry winters evening, there were glistening beads of water all over the rapidly thinning chassis.

I’ve also had my wheels refurbished but Adam at Smart Rimz and been equally impressed. I like the watch that you show the work actually being done on your car - even speeded up - because it gives people like me more of an idea about what is involved which means that I can dare to consider tackling a few of the projects myself. Great work Jack. Just to add to your list of expenses, have the cam chains and tensioners been replaced? The tensioners as fitted have a habit of failing which can lead to disastrous engine damage. To my knowledge there were 3 versions of the tensioners: one all plastic, one partly alloy and one mostly alloy. The one to fit is obviously the mostly alloy one. Also the hoses which run in the valley are worth replacing as they are probably original, this is a bigger job on the supercharged engine. Sorry to add to your pain☹️ just thought that if you are looking for a bulletproof restoration that I should mention this......

Splendid video Jack, some cars deserve another life.
If want a really good XJR, look for one from Japan or here in New Zealand. Dealers here send quite a few classics to the UK, our cars are rust free and therefore in demand. They never bring cars in from the UK! There isn't a spot of rust on my 2002 XKR 😊

"Reggie"? Jaguar isn't a cool enough name? 👋😁 I fully support fixing up older cars.
So many are scrapped in the name of new for the sake of new/keeping up w/the Jones's.

👏👏👏👏Fair play to you Jack, Reggie is looking a million dollars!
I know it will have cost you a few quid that you will NEVER get back but what a classy looking motor!
Years ago I had an XJ40 Sovereign as a Funday/Sunday car, I loved that motor for about 4 years until the guy at the local garage said “I’ve welded her underneath for the test, reckon you should get rid of before the next one”! 😢 broke my heart!
    Great vid as usual!👍😊❤️

I love to see this car getting rebuilt. Too many people hear the cost to do what you've done and give up on what could've been such an incredible car. I bet the price to fix that Jaguar is going to be very close to, if not over 5 figures by the time you've completed it. Personally, I really like Jags, but I have a lust for Mercedes that is so much stronger. Which is why I burn my life savings on my CLK500.

    Dyno day.
    Sounds good.
Maybe hook up with Geoff Buy Cars.
You 2 would be a good fit for older cars.

Handsome cat...the one with legs, not so much the one with those round things under it! Jack, I hope your viewers take these videos as a morality tale of sorts: VERY few of them have the skils and tools to affect the repairs you have done. And, if you'd paid retail to have them done at quality shops, you'd own Reggie for a staggering sum of money. I've said it before, and here it is again - "There ain't no bargain exotic or luxury cars; in the end, the cheap ones cost more than the pricier ones!" Now, about that cat...

Jack all good work...Reg looks fantastic. Just that no one has mentioned the music..the first bit was really hectic, and I did write woah...and then the last half of the video is far easier to watch and less intrusive, great ;D

Always good to pick up recommendations of local service providers. Fortunately I haven't needed their services for a few years, but Smartrimz have done excellent work for me in the past. Very impressed with the paintless dent repair work too, particularly as you had a go with a piece of wood and lump hammer first!

Great job, Jack. This jag is coming along so nicely 😀 The tyres were a shock to me. Glad you got these replaced. It was an accident waiting to happen.

Mercedes with the fancy mono wiper. Jag like, "we can do that, just remove one"
