He's not 'getting' any great anything from the orchestra. The ORCHESTRA MUSICIANS are doing it! Do you really think the players are inspired by a dancing clown on a platform? Isn't the music enough to inspire them alone?

This was the background music for a movie the name of which eludes me. Anyone?
Breaking Away, movie from the late seventies. Lead character pretended to be an Italian exchange student.
Have not listened to this wonderful piece in some time. How nice to have such poignant memories arise from the mid-seventies. That old “LP” featured the Italian and Schubert’s fifth symphonies. I loved them both but the Schubert edged out the Italian. The opening of the Italian is so very unique with its total and uninhibited opening that swirls all around and over you. Mendelssohn captured the essence of Italy and ran with it! This performance really bubbled and churned. I smiled throughout but also took notice of the audience members behind the orchestra. They struck me as quite stoic and unmoved. Oh, well. I would certainly had been bobbing my head and moving my hands in response to this spirited band. So glad to come upon this video towards the close of my day. In the words of “uncle Victor” beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! Paul W. Green

Echt fröhliche Aufführung! Die milden Töne der Holzbläser sind besonders eindrucksvoll. Mir gefällt dieses kompakte und völlig trainierte Orchester unter der gut artikulierten Leitung von diesem intelligenten Dirigenten.

Wonderful. Such a rapport between conductor and orchestra. Lively and beautiful playing in the first 3 movements, than - fasten your seatbelts for the ride of you life! The saltarello taken at a cracking pace, but firmly in control throughout. A well deserved standing ovation from the huge audience. Unfogettable - thanks to all involved for creating this brilliant video and posting it on youtube.
