    My husband went cold turkey. He was taking 10 mg daily for gout pain. He is in between doctors, trying to find someone with knowledge about gout as well as Chronic Kidney Disease. His primary kept saying that he doesn't want him to continue taking prednisone but never mentioned one word about weening off. The primary wanted the "new" rheumatologist to take responsibility for prescribing prednisone. The rheumatologist wouldn't prescribe it unless my husband did xrays and ultrasounds of his gout affected areas for her to confirm gout. And she wouldn't agree to prescribe it unless the kidney doctor was on board with it. OMG This crazy run around has made my husband so beyond frustrated. The prednisone ran out and he hasn't been able to get to the appointments to make everyone happy. I didn't know that he did all of this. But when he mentioned he felt like crap, I asked him what is different. He said he ran out of prednisone so that was that.
    Not one of his healthcare providers mentioned weening. NOW What?

    Dr. megan can you also make a video of post prednisone side effects. as most of time its always only the side effects for ex. during pred we have High blood pressure, but after pred it goes the opposite like low blood, same with high blood glucose, it gets too low after pred.

    • @PrednisonePharmacist

      Yes, I have lots of videos about this. Most of them have “prednisone withdrawal” in the title.

  • @mariellegrant6248

    Please Dr Megan, could you tell wich dose is causing moré problèms? I take 10mg prednisone everyday, since 8 years now. Thank you!

    • @PrednisonePharmacist

      Generally, the higher the dose, the worse the problems. 10 mg is a lower dose that usually has less problems, but 5 mg usually has even less.

    I went cold turkey and didn’t do the last day. Immediately 2 days later I got under armpit pain several tests later nothing conclusive. What can I do?

    • @PrednisonePharmacist

      I'm not sure what the under armpit pain means or if it relates to going cold turkey. There are lymph nodes in armpits that can swell when the immune system is active...

    • @PrednisonePharmacist

      Yes, you can open the capsules and pour the powder into food. Typically applesauce, yogurt, smoothie, soup, etc. are options to pour it into.

    Thank you. Im trying to emotionally prepare myself. Do you able to go to work while you are on prednisone? Would it effects your ability to work?

    • @PrednisonePharmacist

      Most people are able to continue working. A few have side effects severe enough that they need to take time off. But the majority can continue. I'd mention to anyone close to you that you're taking it if your behavior is suddenly different.

    • @PrednisonePharmacist

      It’s unpredictable. There’s no way to predict how long it will last.

    If you take this for less than 7 days does all this happen? Doesn't it all reverse after you stop?

    • @PrednisonePharmacist

      You'll likely have fewer side effects than those who take it longer term.

    Since I feel great after the first day on methylprednisolone why do I need to continue with the rest of the pills? What is the reason to take the whole pack? I understand why if this was an antibiotic, but why for the Medro Dosepak?

    • @PrednisonePharmacist

      I don’t know why your doctor prescribed prednisone. Each condition is different.
      Maybe one dose was enough to knock down the inflammation, but it’s not enough to keep it down?
      It’s best to ask your doctor.
      One other thing to note is we always taper off steroids unless your doctor says otherwise.

      I'm 79, injured my elbow many years ago, so when I do pushups, it becomes inflamed, x-ray shows bone spur but not that bad. I also have a little bit of arthritis and gout. Anyway, after 2 days I feel like a teenager with no pain, so I stopped taking the rest [8] pills because I could not get a good answer on the Internet from anyone as to why I should take the whole dose. I posted a TH-cam upload to show my elbow, and no one commented. Dr. are closed on weekends in my city.
