Food quality and access to health and dental care cross my mind.

Or maybe illegals are committing crimes therefore lowering the average life expectancy in that area.

They got all the same grocery stores down in south Phoenix as we have up here. The problem is poor food choices. Due to cultural factors people choose bad food.

@ actually they don’t. There’s no AJs or Whole Foods down there and also they have less money and likely buy cheaper, lower quality foods.

@@Manifest_Magazine There are Safeways, Frys, Walmarts, and Albertsons down in south Phoenix, and that's perfectly fine.

@@Manifest_Magazine Come on now, a banana is like 25 cents at any store. There is no excuse to eat unhealthy. Fruits and veggies do not cost much. It is a choice to buy what people do.

I think what they’re trying to say is that junk food is more accessible in that area. Maybe because small corner stores in the neighborhoods. But that’s everywhere in the US. I’m originally from the Midwest and the so called hoods had a lot more dense populations with many liquor and corner stores, bodegas, convenient stores whatever you want to call them. And if you don’t have a car to get around it’s easier to go to those stores to get snacks and junk food. It’s easily accessible but at the end of the day it’s a choice we all make to either eat healthy or not.

Food quality and access to it. I'm assuming many are low income and as a result, to stretch their dollars they purchase cheaper, processed foods. Wealthy people can afford wholesome, which is more expensive. Organic is even more expensive than that. This study isn't telling me what is already obvious.

Been here my whole life. South Phoenix is a food desert, higher crime rate, poor health conditions. Also notice the difference of tree/ shade coverage in this area compared to places like scottsdale or central phoenix.
