    To me its all the same. The real thing that determines the performance and projection are the types of oils. You can have a 50% concentrated of a citrus fragrance it will perform much more worse than a 10% oriental oud based fragrance. It all really depends on the materials used.

    What a neat idea to use milk :D
    In my experience with more classic fragrances, the pure parfums/extraits have very little sillage but great longevity and depth. Decades ago a fragrance would be launched as an extrait, as an eau de cologne and as an eau de toilette. All of them would have had reasonably good longevity due to ingredients of high quality. In the early 1980s Eau de Parfum (back then called Parfum de Toilette) was "invented" as a new concentration and brands added that sort of concentration to their classics, e.g. Chanel N°5 EdP, which was originally launched as an extrait and as an edc in the 1920s. Those EdPs are usually the ones with monster sillage, while extraits have beautiful depth and silent strength.

    Great video. I actually get great performance from Dior Homme Cologne - the trick for me is wearing it when it's oppressively hot and/humid. It will last most of the day for me, and it's so refreshing and beautifully made.

    I'm so bookmarking this URL to give folks the answer to the "what's the difference?" querry. I love the dairy analogy! 😘 I would have included Eau Homme as 2% (EDC skim, EDT whole, EDPI half & half, Parfum heavy cream!) Little difference between 2% & whole it's just waterier. DHI came first Homme Cologne you showed and I love is 2013 there was an earlier one I tried it Sephora ~2010 meh! Gone now. There is a concentration difference like that then also formulaic differences without percentage shifts. The One EDP accents richer aspects with no oil increase. D&G PH Intenso EDP had a higher fraction of oils but a softer blending of Base notes. Acqua di Gio is another (EDT, Essenza, Absolu then Profumo) good example as is BVLGARI Man in Black (Black Cologne, Essence, EDP original & Black Orient parfum) but it's an ultimate version of MAN (EDT, Extrême & Man in Black). I'm glad to see guys having a greater range (either in volume or focus) in their lines. Great video and Happy New Year!! J xox

    Thanks Sebastian nice refresher on the percentages and excellent comparison I’m nuts over my mocha breve rich as it is and that’s how I like my scent-eau de parfum gorgeous large and long lasting! I wonder though if they really stick to these levels on some fragrances I hope and wish they would/do

    I have a question, sir. How do you find out the fragrance concentration on a perfume? For example, if I had to choose between 2 different brands of eau de parfum, or even 2 different eau de parfum from the same brand, how would I find out which has the highest fragrance concentration?

    Great video Sebastian it is very informative especially for someone like myself that is just starting out, and I agree with you, the whole Dior Homme line smells great. Before I was just stuck on Dior Homme Sport, but then I saw one of your videos about Dior Homme Cologne and I discovered a new favorite scent

  • @GeeMood

    Excellent topic and great breakdown and explanation. One thing I find weird is, Dior lists Dior Homme Cologne as an EDT on their website, as does Macy's, but sites like Sephora list it as an EDC. We all know it perfoms like an EDC lol.

    • @ThePerfumeGuy
      @ThePerfumeGuy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I checked my bottle it says EDC but I have seen it listed as EDT even with Guerlain L'Homme Ideal Cologne. Odd but was using it to illustrate an example! :)

  • @ericksanchez4576
    @ericksanchez4576 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    There is a big chemical factor that is not just the cologne concentration, you can be wearing an EDP with cheap or synthetic components that will be less longer lasting that using a EDT with high quality materials, there are other factors that have to consider when we talking about longevity and sillage in a cologne.

    • @ThePerfumeGuy
      @ThePerfumeGuy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From my experience and speaking to perfumers synthetics actually prolong the life of perfumes rather than using all naturals. :)

    Shit I own the entire dior homme line and love the cologne but I didn't know it was an edc I thought the cologne was just a name lol I just thought it was an edt 🤔 also you right about the performance between the concentrations, generally speaking its the alcohol the helps diffuse the scent into the air in turn projecting more and the higher the oil concentration the less alcohol giving you more lasting power but less protection, thats all generalized as you said there are exceptions to the rule but great video 👍

    • @ThePerfumeGuy
      @ThePerfumeGuy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just answered this below. My bottle says Eau De Cologne. I have seen it as both an Eau De Cologne and an Eau De Toilette. I was merely using it as an example to illustrate the differences between the concentrations. :)

      @@ThePerfumeGuy ohh sorry I knew what you were doing I wasn't questioning you 🤔 I was merely shocked in myself that I didn't know that, I just assumed it was edt and I should never assume 😂😂 in the end who cares 😂😂 its a great summer scent and it does what its intended purpose well in the high heat 👍
